1033 Omakase Reviews
Was lucky enough to score a last minute reservation at 1033 Omakase for myself and one of my buddies and I am so glad that I did.Staff was friendly and attentive as soon as we arrived. The restaurant only sits 10-15 people so very cozy environment and definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and ability to be right there with the chefs while they were preparing the food.We did the 14 course and my friend and I after each item was served felt like each one was somehow better than the last. They had a great selection of sake and other cocktails and the hosts made great recommendations or provided insight on favorites of different staff members.Even as someone who enjoys sushi who used to be a picky eater, there were many things on the menu I had never tried before but really loved. The food was fun, fresh, high quality and the touch of the head chef there making your food and interacting with you, being able to see the detail while making each course is a great added touch. The chef was attentive, always asking our thoughts, providing insight on what we were eating and I enjoyed after the meal that he asked what our favorite thing was, which frankly was a hard question to answer where many of the courses were competing for that spot.I personally enjoyed the 90’s hip hop (don’t worry karens, it’s the radio edits) and thought it added a unique touch and was not too loud as to hinder conversation. If you’re lucky enough to get a reservation here it is absolutely a must go and I certainly hope to go back in the future. For people trying to get a reservation, make sure to I sign up for email notifications on Resy. A spot opened up yesterday for today and was glad to be able to hop on it. This place is going to continue to be busy and for good reason.1033 Team, I wish you continued success and I’m glad I was able to experience what the hype was about, it was well worth it and well deserved.
August 01 · Austin Dow-SmithDining at 1033 Omakase is unlike anything else in Milwaukee. The moment you step in, you’re welcomed into an intimate, private setting that feels more like a curated culinary performance than a traditional restaurant experience. The space is minimal yet warm, and the background music is perfectly chosen—elevating the mood without ever overpowering the conversation. Each sushi plate that came out was a small masterpiece. The portions may be on the smaller side, but the flavor, freshness, and sheer creativity of every dish were second to none. From the melt-in-your-mouth textures to the unexpected flavor pairings, every bite was a reminder of how refined and artistic sushi can truly be.
July 06 · Ran EliahuDefinitely an amazing experience 10 out of 10 recommend if you're a sushi lover! Very hip environment with an exciting atmosphere and a good touch of social vibe. Will be going back to see what other exciting and amazing creations they have to offer!!! So many flavors packed in every bite. Reservations are hard to get though, but well worth the wait...
April 25 · Heather DeckowHad an amazing time! It was my first time trying Omakase and Chef Ray, the sous chef and other staff created a very memorable and intimate experience. And it was an experience from start to finish. The fish was super fresh, and the flavor combinations that Chef Ray created were delicious! Many fish that aren't common in Milwaukee. The cocktails were also outstanding! I would highly recommend it.
February 14 · Ashleigh LundMilwaukee finally has good sushi. This is the real deal. This is a 14-course nigiri meal, so basically 10-12 pieces of fish or seafood and rice and a couple extra special dishes. There were no true sashimi bites or just fish alone without rice or some other vessel to eat at the same time. This level and quality of seafood is typically only available in: Japan, west coast, major US cities. There is and never has been anything this good in Milwaukee, ever.Chef Ray has a really inventive experience from start to finish. I will be back.Service is awesome, one on one and very attentive to anything you may need to drink or refill. They ask up front if anyone has allergies. They will easily accommodate if they can. Some critiques:Music. Not sure if 90s hip hop works. Maybe if it was a little quieter. It would have been fine without any music too.A la carte. I was still hungry afterward. Typically, you have the ability to order extra pieces of what was on the menu. This is easy extra revenue for the restaurant. They said it was something they wanted to do in the future.True omakase. I think true omakase is focused on the fish. Very simply, it's perfect rice, fish, wasabi, a little brush of magic nikiri, a sweeter lighter soy sauce, and that's it. Here, there's a bit more focus on the experience, show, and other ingredients and flavors that sometimes overwhelm or muddle the flavor of the fish. This isn't a bad thing. The restaurant has its vision and theme, but I don't get that true, authentic, omakase feel. The quality and freshness of the fish and seafood are top tier. The toro tuna, which may be the best bite of sushi you can eat, was a little overpowered with black truffle added to it. They could pull it off without concealing the fish flavors and still have a home run experience, but if they did that, the masses might not, "get it." So onwards with the creativity and extra touches. This place deserves to prosper. It's up to the people of Milwaukee to fill all 12 seats here multiple times a day, every day of the week. It's silly to need to drive all the way to Chicago for quality sushi.I visited again on 4/30/25 and it seems most items were edited for the better. The fish was not overpowered by other ingredients like last time and the true flavors really shined. Bravo. My only critique this time was the seasonal mackerel was a little bland and lacking flavor and seasoning. Everything else spot on. Customer service continues to be spectacular.
