This charming establishment has garnered a loyal following for its commitment to classic, wholesome Japanese dishes, making it a hidden gem for those seeking a genuine taste experience.
Asa Ramen isn't just another ramen shop; it’s a place that embodies the spirit of old-school, delicious Japanese cooking. While many newer ramen spots focus on heavier, richer broths, Asa Ramen stands out with its "masterful simplicity" – a lighter, yet deeply flavorful broth that perfectly complements its toppings. This approach offers a refreshing alternative for those who appreciate a more traditional and perhaps "healthier" take on their favorite noodle dish.
From the moment you discover this "hole in the wall" establishment, you’ll sense its unique character. It feels genuinely family-owned and run, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that many appreciate. The emphasis here is on good food, generous portions for the price, and a quick, efficient service that caters to the local community's needs. Whether you’re a long-time ramen enthusiast or simply looking for a hearty and authentic meal, Asa Ramen promises a satisfying and memorable culinary journey in the heart of California.

Western Avenue is a significant thoroughfare, ensuring the restaurant is simple to find whether you're coming from nearby cities like Torrance, Carson, or even further afield within Los Angeles County.
Being located on a main road, Asa Ramen benefits from good visibility. While specific parking information isn't always readily available for smaller establishments, street parking or nearby lot options are generally common in such commercial areas, making it convenient for those arriving by car. Its central location also means it's well-connected to local public transportation routes, offering another practical way to reach this beloved dining spot.
The community of Gardena itself holds a rich Japanese cultural heritage, contributing to the authentic feel of dining at Asa Ramen. It’s a location that not only provides excellent food but also offers a sense of connection to the broader Japanese-American community and its culinary traditions in California. Asa Ramen, despite its humble appearance, provides a range of services aimed at delivering a straightforward and enjoyable dining experience for its patrons. Their focus is on efficient service and delivering quality food, whether you choose to dine in or take your meal to go.
Dine-In Service: They offer a casual and cozy setting for customers who wish to enjoy their meal on-site. The atmosphere is described as "old-skool" and comfortable, reflecting its long-standing presence in the community.
Takeout: For those who prefer to enjoy their delicious ramen and other dishes from the comfort of their home or office, takeout service is readily available. This is a popular option for busy individuals or families.
Late Hours: A significant advantage for locals is that Asa Ramen is open late. This makes it an ideal spot for a satisfying meal after a long day, for night owls, or for those with late-night cravings that other establishments might not cater to.
Traditional Japanese Menu: While ramen is a highlight, their menu extends to other traditional Japanese dishes, notably fried rice. This indicates a commitment to offering a well-rounded and authentic Japanese culinary experience beyond just noodle soups.
Family-Owned and Operated: The reviews suggest a strong family presence in the restaurant's operation, which often translates to a more personal touch in service and a consistent dedication to food quality.
Good Value: Customers frequently mention that the food provides "good for the price and portion," indicating that Asa Ramen offers excellent value, which is always a plus for local diners.
Asa Ramen distinguishes itself in the competitive California ramen scene through several unique features and highlights that resonate deeply with its local customer base.
Authentic "Old-Skool" Japanese Food: Unlike many contemporary ramen establishments that focus on heavy broths and modern interpretations, Asa Ramen prides itself on offering a taste of "old-skool healthy and delicious Japanese food." This appeals to those seeking a more traditional and perhaps nostalgic culinary experience.
Masterful Simplicity of Broth: A key highlight is their approach to ramen broth. While other places may emphasize richness, Asa Ramen's broth is praised for its "masterful simplicity," providing a lighter yet deeply flavorful foundation that "compliments the toppings" beautifully. This makes their Assari Ramen a standout, offering a refreshing alternative to heavier tonkotsu styles.
Family-Owned and Run Atmosphere: Customers consistently describe it as a "cute little hole in a wall place" that "looks like family owned and run restaurant." This creates a warm, welcoming, and personal dining experience, a stark contrast to larger, more corporate establishments. The personal touch, like the owner engaging with customers, adds to its charm.
Open Late: The fact that Asa Ramen is "open late" is a significant advantage for locals, providing a reliable option for dinner or a snack when many other places have already closed. This convenience makes it a go-to spot for night owls.
Excellent Value for Money: Reviewers frequently commend the restaurant for its "good for the price and portion." This commitment to affordability without sacrificing quality makes it an attractive option for regular visits among the local community.
Delicious Fried Rice: Beyond their signature ramen, the fried rice is also highlighted by customers as a highly recommended dish, showcasing the restaurant's ability to deliver quality across its menu.
Fast and Good Service: Despite being a smaller, family-run establishment, the service is consistently described as "good and fast," ensuring a pleasant and efficient dining experience even during busy periods.
As a charming, seemingly family-owned "hole in the wall" establishment, Asa Ramen might not publicize extensive, flashy promotions in the same way larger chain restaurants do. Their appeal often lies more in their consistent quality, authentic taste, good value, and personalized service. However, based on the nature of such local businesses and customer reviews, here’s what one might infer or experience regarding potential offers:
Value for Price and Portion: While not a "promotion" in the traditional sense, the consistent customer feedback about the food being "good for the price and portion" acts as a standing offer. This inherent value makes dining at Asa Ramen an economical choice for a satisfying meal, encouraging repeat visits simply due to its affordability and generous servings.
Complimentary Items: One review specifically mentions the owner giving "little chips with our beer." This indicates a potential for small, spontaneous complimentary items or gestures of hospitality, which, while not a formal promotion, add significant value to the customer experience and foster loyalty.
Late-Night Availability: Being open late could be considered a "special offer" in itself for the convenience it provides. For locals looking for quality food outside of standard dining hours, Asa Ramen's extended operational times are a valuable feature that stands out.
Loyalty Through Quality and Service: The "instantly fell in love" sentiment from a customer review, stemming from the interaction with the presumed owner and the deliciousness of the food, suggests that their primary "promotion" is the consistent high quality of their dishes and the warm, engaging service. Loyal customers become the best advertisement.
Seasonal or Unannounced Specials: Smaller, family-run restaurants sometimes offer unannounced daily specials or seasonal items that are only communicated verbally or on a small board within the restaurant. It's always a good idea to ask the staff if there are any current specials.
Given the nature of Asa Ramen as a local, potentially cash-preferred establishment, the best way to discover any immediate, informal promotions or daily specials would be to visit in person or call them directly. Their primary "offer" remains the consistently delicious, authentic Japanese food at a great price point.

Asa Ramen Reviews
Cute little hole in a wall place, looks like family owned and run restaurant. The food is good for the price and portion. They are open late. The service is good and fast. I would go back if I am in the area. We got fried rice and Assari Ramen.
May 31, 2024 · Shahbaz SalehiThe food and vibe here are definitely old-skool healthy and delicious japanese food. it's not like all the other ramen restaurants popping up where the ingredients and broth are much heavier whereas at Asa, the masterful simplicity of the broth complimenting the toppings is something to be appreciated. The place is old, and smells a bit like cigarettes but I got used to it pretty quickly (I am very smell sensitive so I almost left but the man who I am guessing is the owner, came over and gave us little chips with our beer and he smiled and giggled a little. I instantly fell in love ❤️). Everything was delicious. Try it out!
Oct 27, 2024 · AllieUnprofessional staff, while it is a small family style kitchen, the waiters are very unwelcoming. I've gone on several occasions and have waited well over 20 minutes to order and we'll over an hour to eat. Mind you, there has only ever been 3 other customers in the restaurant every time I go. It seems that service is not a priority here. Unprofessional and petty personal treatment
Feb 28, 2025 · mark jimenezThe food was great. I got a Curry Ramen which is a soy sauce based soup and it wasn't too salty. Just perfect. The food portion as ginormous. The server was very nice and attentive. The have outside seating.
