Benihana Introduce
Benihana, located in Fashion Park at 2074 Vallco Pkwy, Cupertino, CA 95014, USA, is an internationally recognized Japanese restaurant known for its unique teppanyaki-style dining. Within the "Doctor Near Me" platform category, Benihana offers a distinctive "remedy" not just for hunger, but also for the desire for an entertaining and memorable dining experience, particularly for celebrations and group gatherings. It stands out from traditional Japanese eateries due to its interactive culinary performance at each table.
Environment:
The environment at Benihana is characterized by its signature teppanyaki tables, each featuring a large flat-top grill where a personal chef prepares the meal right in front of the diners. This setup fosters a highly interactive and engaging atmosphere, making the dining experience a form of entertainment. Seating is typically communal around these large grills, encouraging conversation and shared enjoyment among dining parties, even if they are initially strangers.
The ambiance is often lively and energetic, punctuated by the sizzle of food, the clatter of spatulas, and the occasional flair of culinary theatrics from the chefs (e.g., onion volcanoes, shrimp tails flipping into hats). While it offers a fun and dynamic setting, it's important to note, as one review highlights, that it's an "American-Japanese restaurant," meaning the decor and overall vibe are tailored to an American audience's perception of a festive Japanese experience, rather than a strictly traditional Japanese aesthetic. The restaurant is particularly popular for celebrations, with multiple tables often hosting birthday parties, adding to the festive and convivial atmosphere. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on weekends and Friday nights, indicating its popularity.
Services:
Benihana prides itself on its "very cordial and efficient service," from the moment guests are greeted by the hostess to the interactions with waiters, waitresses, and especially the teppanyaki chefs. The staff is consistently described as "very nice and friendly," making diners feel well-cared for. A key aspect of the service is the personalized cooking experience provided by the chef at each table. The chef not only prepares the food to order and "liking" but also ensures that "all our needs been taken care of," from seasoning adjustments to dietary considerations.
The efficiency of the service is notable, with meals prepared and served relatively quickly once the cooking performance begins. Even when nearing closing time, the staff reportedly "didn't pressure us to hurry and leave," demonstrating their hospitality. This attentiveness and the interactive element where chefs engage directly with diners contribute significantly to the overall positive service perception. Beyond dine-in, Benihana also offers catering services for events and takeout options, though the full teppanyaki experience is best enjoyed in the restaurant. For reservations, which are strongly advised, especially on popular nights, guests can call (408) 253-1221 or +1 408-253-1221.
Features:
The defining feature of Benihana is its teppanyaki cooking style, where skilled chefs perform culinary artistry on a hot grill right at the diners' tables. This interactive showmanship, combined with fresh ingredients, forms the core of the experience.
Key features and popular menu items include:
- Live Teppanyaki Cooking: The main attraction, featuring chefs who entertain with knife skills, juggling utensils, and creating visual spectacles like the onion volcano, while preparing each dish.
- High-Quality Meats: Customers consistently praise the tenderness and taste of the meats. Popular choices include:
- New York Strip Steak: Described as "tender and tasty."
- Filet Mignon: Also noted for its tenderness and flavor.
- Chicken Breast: A lighter option, described as "nice."
- Lobster Tail and A5 Wagyu: Available for those seeking premium upgrades, though they significantly increase the cost.
- Fresh Seafood: Alongside meats, Benihana typically offers a selection of fresh seafood such as shrimp, scallops, and salmon.
- Combo Meals: A variety of combinations allow diners to choose multiple proteins (e.g., steak and chicken, steak and shrimp).
- Complete Meals: Each teppanyaki entrée usually comes with a traditional Japanese onion soup, Benihana salad with ginger dressing, a hibachi shrimp appetizer, hibachi vegetables, homemade dipping sauces, and steamed rice (with an option to upgrade to fried rice).
- Special Fried Rice: Prepared on the grill, often with egg, vegetables, and garlic butter, a crowd favorite.
- Sushi and Sashimi: While primarily a steakhouse, Benihana also offers a selection of traditional sushi and sashimi appetizers and rolls for those who wish to complement their meal or for non-teppanyaki diners.
- Children's Menu: Kid-friendly options for younger guests.
- Desserts: Including classic Japanese desserts like green tea ice cream or mochi ice cream, and often special birthday treats.
The experience is designed to be highly customizable, allowing diners to choose their proteins, cooking preferences, and sauces, ensuring a personalized meal.
Promotional Information and Public Perception:
Benihana's promotional strategy heavily relies on its reputation as a celebratory destination and its unique interactive dining. The fact that "each table has at least 1 person having birthday" on a given night underscores its success as a go-to venue for special occasions. Customer reviews consistently highlight the "great service," the tenderness of the meats, and the overall enjoyable experience, making it a compelling choice for group entertainment.
However, it's also important to address the perception that Benihana is an "American-Japanese restaurant, not a Japanese restaurant." This distinction is crucial for managing expectations; it implies a fusion or adapted style of Japanese cuisine and dining culture, tailored for the American palate and preference for entertainment. The average cost per person, typically around $50 to $80 without premium upgrades, positions it as a mid-to-high-range dining option.
Regarding public health and safety, official inspection records for Benihana at 2074 Vallco Pkwy, Cupertino, CA 95014 (Facility ID PR0044558), from the County of Santa Clara Department of Environmental Health, show a consistent track record of compliance. A routine inspection on February 29, 2024, resulted in a "Pass" with a score of 96, indicating a high level of adherence to health standards. Prior to this, a routine inspection on September 14, 2023, also resulted in a "Pass" with a score of 95. These consistent high "Pass" ratings provide reassurance to patrons. This transparency regarding health inspections is important for users of a "Doctor Near Me" platform, ensuring informed dining choices.
In conclusion, Benihana in Cupertino stands as a popular and reliable choice for an entertaining and delicious Japanese teppanyaki meal, particularly well-suited for celebrations and group outings seeking an interactive culinary experience.

Chicken breast is nice, I order it only for trying its taste.Service is great. But over all, this is an American-Japanese restaurant, not a Japanese restaurant. Please correct your expectations.
Mar 23, 2025 · George ChangWhat an experience! We went for mother's Day and had not been to a Benihana for about 20 years. Our chef was Mike and he was phenomenal! His skills were excellent and his personality and humor has us laughing and smiling the whole time. The food was so delicious. The fired rice, the best I've ever had. The prawns and steak cooked so perfectly.I would suggest reservations though. We were seated at 1:00 (Saturday) and shortly after that all of the other tables were filled up with patrons and cooks. When we left an hour and a half later every table was packed.
May 17, 2025 · Sharyl FBenihana Cupertino is one of my favorite hibachi places! I typically sit at the bar as the rotation of bartenders all have great attitudes/personality and provide five star service. My wife and I like and prefer to go on non busy days during non peak times. The cook delivered our food to us at the bar and everything was hot, fresh, and delicious! He was awesome and super courteous. Asked what sauces we needed and then brought us our ginger and mustard sauces. Melted the garlic butter. Dude was so great I had to ask him his name. Earnest is a great representative for this location and also cooks good food! In my food pic I was eager to get started and dumped sauce on everything before the picture. I’ll be back and recommend anyone in the Cupertino area wanting some good hibachi to check out this location.
