Dr. Clark Introduce
Nestled in the heart of Chinatown, Dr. Clark is a one-of-a-kind Japanese restaurant that brings the distinct flavors of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, to the vibrant culinary scene of New York City. Stepping into Dr. Clark is an experience in itself, transporting you to a different world with its casual, cozy, and trendy atmosphere. We are the city's first restaurant dedicated to authentic Hokkaido-style cuisine, offering a unique menu that stands out from typical Japanese fare. Our specialty is "Jingisukan," a marinated and grilled mutton dish cooked on a tabletop skillet, which is a true Hokkaido tradition.
More than just a restaurant, Dr. Clark is a full-fledged cultural experience. The ambiance is meticulously crafted, with a blend of authentic Japanese decor and modern, trendy elements. The space is known for its intimate feel, making it an excellent choice for a date night or a fun evening with a group of friends. As a "sceney" restaurant, it attracts a cool crowd, and the vibe shifts throughout the night. While it's perfect for a tranquil dinner, those with later reservations should be aware that the energy can pick up significantly around 10:30 PM, when the restaurant transitions into a lively karaoke bar. This duality is part of what makes Dr. Clark so unique and memorable.

The menu at Dr. Clark is full of delicious and unique choices, but a few dishes stand out as absolute must-tries. The Jingisukan Table Top Grill is our most iconic offering. This is more than just a dish; it's a social and culinary event that truly captures the spirit of Hokkaido. The thinly sliced lamb, marinated for days, combined with fresh vegetables grilled at your table, is an experience you won't forget. We offer both a classic and a spicy version, and it is a requirement to order for a minimum of two people.
For appetizers, the Uni French Fries are a beloved and highly recommended dish. The combination of crispy fries with our house-made uni cream sauce is a unique and indulgent treat. Another customer favorite is the Hokkaido Style “Zangi” Fried Chicken, which is flavorful and perfectly crispy. The Addictive Cabbage is also a simple yet surprisingly popular side dish.
Our sashimi selection is also excellent. The Sashimi Combo and Sashimi Trio are praised for their freshness and quality, a true testament to our focus on Hokkaido's seafood. For a comforting meal, the Scallop Risotto is a fantastic choice, and the Jingisukan Yaki Soba is a great way to enjoy the classic lamb flavor in a new way. For dessert, the Basque Cheesecake and Hokkaido Funnelcake are perfect to round off your meal. While some dishes on our tasting menu may have varying reviews, the option to try a bit of everything makes it a great choice for first-time visitors who want to get a comprehensive taste of our unique offerings. A visit to Dr. Clark is an opportunity to explore a part of Japanese cuisine that is rare in New York, and our signature dishes are the perfect place to start.

Dr. Clark Reviews
Loved our server. The uni fries were the best. I also loved the salmon chin chin. I loved the veg with anchovy dipping sauce. We were there super early on a Tues. it was pretty hot & humid which took away from the atmosphere and tasty food.
May 14 · Emma NiwaWe went here for our weekly date night. I had been before but my boyfriend was enjoying for the first time.We ordered the pre fix menu and it was okay. A few of the dishes fell a little short for us but others were very delicious. But it was nice to get a bit of everything for my boyfriend. The staff was very kind and helpful throughout the entire experience.A note to anyone hoping for a late reservation…karaoke started around 10:30pm and caught the tail end of our meal. If you’re in the vibe for that it’s great. If you’re trying to have a more secluded meal it can be distracting.Overall, we really enjoyed the evening.
April 12 · Aiden PresselJapanese food, thier house special is cooked at your table by a knowledgeable member of staff who will tell you about Dr. Clark. Gentle, candle-lit atmosphere, a walk in was possible on a Monday evening in February
February 11 · Hilary PBeen here many times for downtown’s sceney parties or events, albeit only getting Sapporo drafts. The food however, is quite delicious at reasonable prices.I would recommend getting the addictive cabbage & uni fries as a starter. Super delicious. As for mains, I’ve had a few. The spicy yakisoba is quite delicious and the scallop risotto too. The salmon Chan-Chan is alright. The sashimi trio was fantastic, and at a good price for sashimi at $58. 7 pieces of each scallop, salmon, and yellowtail coming in at under $3 per. Not too bad if you ask me.If you’re going for date night I would recommend coming between like 6-8. Anything after that will become loud, especially on the weekends.
April 30 · Patrick NoDefinitely a quiet romantic milieu for dates. Fried chicken was excellent. Yakisoba spicy beef was delicious. The large portion of risotto was a bit small but tasty. Intriguing cocktails to try.
