Fugakyu Cafe Reviews
I found this place by accident, and it was the best wrong turn of my life. Now I specifically drive out of my way to eat here for special occasions. The fish is always fresh, and for the price, the quality is above expectations. It's a luxury meal hidden where you wouldn't expect. If you're a sushi lover, this is for you.I also personally recommend the Unaju if you're looking for something hot and filling- a tasty grilled eel with sweet soy over rice, including pickled radish. It's a dish I struggle to find anywhere else, and it's become a personal favorite.
June 17 · MissyThe quality of the product is exceptional: fresh, elegant presentation, and very attentive service. We did the omakase [chef's choice] set menu. The five courses were sumptuous. The opening soup was a lovely dashi broth with shiitake and enoki mushrooms that lingered umami and woodsy flavor notes on the tongue. The second course was a enjoyable broil-wrapped roll. The third course was a full on sashimi and nigiri elegant presentation with accents of shiso leaves and lightly touched sauces for the nigiri. Superb. The fourth course, avocado stuffed half lobster, was great but perhaps gilding the lily: almost too much but so delicious. If I had had my druthers, I would have preferred another more traditional Japanese style course. The dessert was great.Highly recommended.
June 30 · Ryck BirchSo surprised by all the good reviews of this place. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and the Kani Katsu Maki. But how in earth can you charge $10.25 for a spicy tuna roll with MICROSCOPIC amount of tuna. It hardly qualifies as sushi. And the other roll was supposed to have snow crab and instead had crab stick. Snow crab and crab stick aren’t even close. What a major disappointment. Bait and switch.
September 07 · Sarah McBrideThe server was not exactly rude but not welcoming either. She came across as having better things to do. In non-covid times it would be easy to view the 16 page menu. Scanning the code and looking it on a mobile is not so easy. The server seemed inpatient that our first and most likely only perusal of the menu was taking longer than she would like. I ordered the chicken katsu curry and my guest ordered the daily bento. The curry tasted watered down and I have made this myself with better results. The Go-go curry in H-Mart Cambridge makes a very good chicken curry. My guest seemed to like his bento. The shrimp and vegetable tempura is good. The sashimi and sushi looked fresh. A bigger issue is the lack of acoustical abatement. It is a very loud restaurant and was not even close to capacity on my visit.
April 12 · Stacey QuandtIf you're craving sushi or Japanese food, this place can fullfil your wish!! You are definitely getting a bargain for such high quality seafood. The salmon sashimi was probably one of the best I've had around Boston/Mass and that's at an unbelievable price. It's a great place for a fancy dinner without breaking the bank!
