Futomaki Sushi & Hibachi stands out as a beacon of quality in the New Jersey Japanese restaurant scene. While many establishments offer "all you can eat" options with a bustling, sometimes overwhelming atmosphere, Futomaki prides itself on delivering a refined experience where every dish is crafted with precision and care. As one reviewer eloquently put it, "Every dish was executed the way Japanese food is supposed to be made." This commitment to authenticity and quality is evident from the moment you take your first bite.
The restaurant excels in both its sushi and hibachi offerings. Sushi rolls are praised for being "perfectly rolled," maintaining that subtle space between the rice, which is itself "perfectly seasoned." This attention to the foundation of sushi is what truly sets Futomaki apart. Unique appetizers like "Mitch's special" (lobster paired with wasabi soy) and the perfectly seared, teriyaki-glazed "Negimaki" showcase the chef's innovative touch. The experience culminates with delightful desserts such as the green tea tempura ice cream, offering a warm and cold, crispy and creamy finish. Futomaki is a place where discerning diners can discover true satisfaction, prompting one patron to declare, "once you go, you may never enjoy sushi anywhere else ever again."

Futomaki sushi & hibachi Reviews
Futomaki is one of the best Japanese restaurants. The rolls are perfectly rolled which means there’s a little space between the rice. The rice perfectly seasoned. Every dish was executed the way Japanese food is supposed to be made. One may enjoy the all you can eat life where the hustle and bustle of people from all walks of life, feast OR go to this hidden gem. You’re missing out if you don’t try Futomaki and the only warning I have is that once you go, you may never enjoy sushi anywhere else ever again. Now, I have only been once and the key to a successful restaurant is consistency. I will be back again within a few weeks and will report again. Our order: Mitch’s special - my recommendation is don’t add more soy sauce. The chef seasoned the lobster and paired it with a wasabi soy.Negimaki- be careful. It’s very heat hot and perfectly seared. There’re 6 pieces. The teriyaki caramel on the beef of the seared edge is like no other.Hibachi - We ordered the steak and shrimp, steak medium rare, and my goodness… it was so good. A good fried rice has a little bounce in the pebble and the salty and sweet tango in your mouth. This fried rice was the best I’ve ever had.We had another roll which had cucumber wrapped around the freshest sashimi grade fish served with a side of dark sauce that tasted like eel sauce which isn’t actually made from eel but the glaze sushi bars add to fresh water and sea water eel. After asking for wasabi, I realized the chef didn’t want us to add wasabi to this culinary delight. Needless to say, it was excellent! But if you don’t like raw fish, then stay away. It’s pretty mild but you must have each piece in one bite.Last, we finished with a green tea tempura ice cream. It was glorious. So satisfying. Crispy warm tempura with a cold ice cream… mmmmmmAnyways, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt the need to review a restaurant where I felt completely satisfied. If you’re interested in dining together and trying out our favorite spots, friend me @minkcraves.
Apr 13, 2024 · Mink LFirst time trying this place out after they've been open for quite awhile already. The place seems pretty clean and quiet. There was another table or two when I got in. I came here with my friend and ordered their lunch special 3 rolls and a sashimi lunch special. Price wise, they are pretty match up with other Japanese restaurants. Food quality is only kinda below average to me, if I compare to other same level Japanese restaurants. Both my friend and I feel the sushi not fresh enough. And their sushi rolls are too loose and lack of rice. Service wise is still acceptable. The waitress didn't asked if we need water though, but maybe because we brought in a Vietnamese coffee inside with us. But she would at least check if everything was ok. Would I have return in the future? Maybe, if they increase their quality. Definitely room for improvements.
Apr 20, 2023 · Cathy W (Cat)Very fresh and delicious - best sushi I’ve had in the area and a regular go to. HIGHLY recommend the yellowtail jalapeño roll, the Sapporo roll, the sweet potato roll, and the peanut avocado roll (I’m serious - for its simplicity, it’s one of the best balanced rolls that I’ve had without fish). I really love how the fried rice and yaki soba comes with tons of fresh vegetables. Although I normally get takeout, it’s very cute inside! The staff are kind and welcoming and I look forward to seeing them whenever I pick up my food.
Apr 14, 2025 · Carissa RedfieldBummed by this place. The rolls looked really nice with the rice to filling ratio being pretty perfect. My first bite into eel avocado and I spit out a tiny piece of white plastic. Needless to say we were not happy especially after driving 30 minutes to try this restaurant for the first time.
Aug 02, 2024 · Deeplovleen AkalThis place is wonderful. The ambiance is peaceful and it’s tastefully decorated. My mother and I shared the tempura appetizer and the sushi for two and it was delicious! My daughter had a California roll and shrimp fried rice and loved it. The server was prompt and attentive and kind when we asked questions about the various menu items. Prices were reasonable for the size portions we received and we will be back!
