HINODEYA Ramen 680 Clay Introduce
For anyone in California with a serious craving for a warm, comforting, and deeply flavorful bowl of ramen, HINODEYA Ramen 680 Clay in San Francisco is a name that often comes up. Tucked away in the vibrant heart of Chinatown, this beloved ramen spot has garnered a loyal following for its distinctive dashi-based broths, perfectly cooked noodles, and a menu that caters to various tastes, including impressive vegan options.
HINODEYA Ramen 680 Clay isn't just about serving food; it's about delivering an experience that embodies the warmth and hospitality of Japanese culinary traditions. While the space may be cozy, the flavors are anything but small, promising a satisfying and memorable meal whether you're looking for a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or a delicious takeout option. Their commitment to flavorful broth, quality ingredients, and efficient service makes it a standout choice for ramen enthusiasts across the Bay Area.
HINODEYA Ramen 680 Clay is conveniently situated at 680 Clay St, San Francisco, CA 94111, USA. This address places it firmly within the energetic and historic Chinatown district, an area renowned for its rich cultural tapestry and diverse culinary offerings. Its location makes it easily accessible for anyone in San Francisco and the surrounding California region.
The restaurant is well-integrated into the city's public transportation network. It's within walking distance of several Muni bus stops, and major BART stations like Montgomery Street and Embarcadero are just a slightly longer, yet manageable, stroll away. This makes it an ideal destination for those relying on public transit.
For drivers, finding parking in Chinatown can sometimes be a challenge due to the high density of the area. However, there are various public parking garages and metered street parking options available nearby, though it’s always advisable to factor in extra time for parking, especially during peak hours. The intimate size of the restaurant means it can get busy, but its central location in a highly walkable neighborhood makes it a convenient stop for locals exploring Chinatown or those working in the nearby Financial District. The atmosphere, described by patrons as "pretty tiny" with "family style bench seating," adds to its authentic, bustling ramen shop charm, contributing to a truly local San Francisco experience.

Quick Service: Customers frequently praise the speed of service, noting that orders are brought out "super fast." This makes it an excellent choice for a quick meal without compromising on quality.
Vegetarian and Vegan Options: HINODEYA is notable for its excellent vegetarian and vegan ramen choices, such as the "Creamy Ramen (Vegan)" and "Zen Ramen (Vegan)," making it an inclusive dining spot for those with dietary preferences.
HINODEYA Ramen 680 Clay stands out for several compelling reasons that resonate with ramen aficionados in California:
Signature Dashi Broth: Unlike many ramen shops that focus on heavier tonkotsu (pork bone) broths, HINODEYA specializes in a lighter yet incredibly flavorful "dashi" broth. The Hinodeya Ramen (House Ramen) features a "carefully prepared umami-happy dashi broth made with bonito flakes, kombu seaweed, scallop bouillon and pork oil." This unique base offers a refined taste, often described as having a pleasant "fishy taste, but not in a bad way," and is a welcome alternative for those seeking a less heavy ramen.
Exceptional Vegan Ramen: HINODEYA receives high praise for its vegan ramen options. The "Creamy Ramen (Vegan)" is particularly highlighted, featuring a "rich, creamy, and flavorful vegan dashi broth made with shiitake mushroom, soy milk, and our original sesame sauce." It's lauded for being delicious and hearty, packed with toppings like "inari (sweet fried tofu), acorn squash, bell pepper, crispy kale, and shiitake mushroom." The "Zen Ramen (Vegan)" offers a "light and comforting, healthy vegan dashi broth" inspired by traditional Japanese Shoujin cooking.
Delicious Appetizers: Beyond ramen, their appetizers are highly regarded. The "Chicken Karaage" is described as "good," tasting like dark meat with "crispy and light" breading. The "Fried Oysters" are also a hit, noted for being "delicious" and "flavourful."
Spicy Ramen Options: For those who enjoy a kick, the "Spicy Miso Ramen" is a popular choice. While one customer noted that Level 2 spice was milder than expected, it implies that higher spice levels are available for a bolder experience, demonstrating their flexibility for spice preferences.
Friendly and Attentive Service: Customers consistently commend the staff for their "friendly" and "professional" demeanor. Specific mentions of staff members like Pooja highlight the personalized and attentive service, enhancing the overall dining experience. The rapid delivery of orders is also a frequently praised aspect of their service.
Unique Ambience: While the space is small, its "family style bench seating" and lively atmosphere (including staff "banding on a drum for when I assume they got a tip") contribute to an authentic, bustling ramen shop feel that many patrons find charming and welcoming.
Diverse Menu Additions: Beyond their core ramen offerings, HINODEYA provides other Japanese staples like various Donburi rice bowls (e.g., Beef Donburi, Chicken Karaage Curry Rice), additional ramen types such as "Hamaguri Ramen" (littleneck clams) and "The Ultimate Scallop Ramen," plus a selection of desserts and Japanese beverages.

Lunch Combos: Many ramen restaurants offer special lunch sets that include a bowl of ramen paired with a side dish (like gyoza or a small rice bowl) at a discounted price compared to ordering items separately.
Seasonal Specials: HINODEYA, with its focus on fresh ingredients and unique broths like the dashi, might introduce seasonal ramen bowls or limited-time appetizers that showcase ingredients available during specific times of the year.
Loyalty Programs: Some local businesses offer loyalty programs or punch cards for repeat customers, providing discounts or free items after a certain number of visits.
Delivery Platform Promotions: It is highly probable that HINODEYA participates in promotions offered by their third-party delivery partners (Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub). Given their focus on quality and a loyal customer base, the value often comes from the consistent excellence of their food and efficient service, rather than aggressive discounting. However, keeping an eye on their online presence or asking staff directly during a visit is recommended for the most up-to-date information on any deals.

HINODEYA Ramen 680 Clay Reviews
Good Food, Friendly Service, small space. We ordered Chicken Karaage, the Hinodeya Ramen, and the Spicy Miso Ramen. The Chicken Karaage was good. It tasted like dark meat, maybe chicken thigs, and the breading was crispy and light. Maybe a tempura or corn starch batter. Both the Ramens were good. The Hinodeya Ramen had a bit of a fishy taste, but not in a bad way. The Spicy Miso Ramen was good too, but I was expecting it to have more of a kick. I did only ask for it to be a level 2 though. Next time, I'll shoot for a 4 or 5. Either way, I didn't think I was going to be able to finish, but I polished off both of these bowls. The service was good. They brought our ordered out super fast, were willing to bring us additional cups when asked, and were banding on a drum for when I assume they got a tip.The atmosphere was fine. Pretty tiny. Family style bench seating.
March 18 · Shawn GoreyI was welcomed by Pooja when I visited. She was attentive and very friendly.I ordered fried oysters and scallop ramen. Both were delicious. The scallop broth was very flavoursome. I finished the whole broth!
March 20 · Chloe CaveLoved this place so much! I was really iffy at first because I'm not usually the biggest fan of ramen but here they make everything taste so good. I don't live in this area but I would come here more often. It is also very filling so come hungry. I recommend their tonkatsu ramen and their creamy brothed ramen.
April 18 · Amelia KozlowskiVery good food!! Traditional pork ramen was tasty and filling.. my friend and I got some chicken kaarage, edamame and a few other things.. very tasty indeed!! Taro our server was very nice and friendly and cute looking too! ☺️
May 26 · James ReynoldsThe ramen was delicious. They had multiple vegetarian options and chicken broth options. The spicy miso was super flavorful. The tofu and crispy greens in the creamy vegan bowl was amazing. I haven’t tried anything like it and recommend that one if you like something sweet and savory. They let us substitute regular noodles instead of the spinach ones in the vegan bowl. Overall it was a great ramen place.
