The restaurant's central location ensures excellent public transportation access. It is within a very short walking distance of numerous subway lines, including the N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, 7, and S trains at major hubs like Times Square-42nd Street and Rockefeller Center. This makes it an ideal spot for a quick and satisfying meal before or after catching a Broadway show, visiting a museum, or simply navigating the energetic pulse of Midtown. Despite being in a heavily trafficked area, the unique dining experience within creates a sense of peaceful solitude, offering a delightful escape from the surrounding city buzz.
ICHIRAN Ramen NY Times Square offers a highly specialized and streamlined set of services designed to deliver their unique ramen experience efficiently.
- Solo Dining Experience (Flavor Concentration Booths): This is ICHIRAN's most distinctive service. Diners are seated in individual "Flavor Concentration Booths," which are separated by small walls, allowing for a focused and intimate ramen experience with minimal distractions.
- Automated Ordering and Payment: Upon entering, customers typically order and pay at a terminal, receiving tickets for their selections. This pre-payment system streamlines the dining process, similar to the operations in Japan.
- Customizable Ramen Orders: Diners use a "Ramen Order Form" to personalize their ramen bowl, selecting preferences for noodle firmness, broth richness, garlic level, green onion, chashu (pork slices), and the level of ICHIRAN's Original Spicy Red Seasoning. This allows for a truly bespoke bowl.
- Efficient and Quick Service: Food is delivered swiftly to the individual booths from behind a curtain, maintaining the solo focus and ensuring a quick turnaround, even during busy periods.
- Table Service for Add-ons: While initial orders are placed at a terminal, customers can signal a server from their booth (via a button) to order additional items like extra noodles (Kae-Dama), toppings, drinks (including Matcha Beer), or desserts.
- Takeout & Delivery: ICHIRAN offers takeout and delivery services for their ramen, utilizing specially developed "delivery-only wheat noodles" designed to maintain quality during transport. They partner with major platforms like Grubhub and DoorDash.
- Take Home Ramen Kits: For those who wish to recreate the ICHIRAN experience at home, they offer Take Home Ramen Kits (including a vegan option) that come with dried noodles, soup concentrate, and their Original Spicy Red Seasoning.
- Water Dispensers: Each booth is equipped with its own water dispenser, offering cold filtered water for convenience.
ICHIRAN Ramen NY Times Square is renowned for several unique features and highlights that set it apart in the New York City ramen scene:
- Authentic Japanese Solo Dining Experience: The signature "Flavor Concentration Booths" provide a truly unique and immersive dining environment. These individual cubicles allow diners to focus solely on their ramen, replicating the traditional Japanese experience found in ICHIRAN's home country. This innovative approach offers privacy and minimizes distractions.
- Highly Customizable Tonkotsu Ramen: ICHIRAN is famous for its Classic Tonkotsu Ramen, which features a rich, creamy pork bone broth that is carefully crafted and free of the strong aroma sometimes associated with Tonkotsu. The ability to customize every aspect of the ramen—from noodle firmness to broth richness and the unique Original Spicy Red Seasoning—ensures a personalized bowl perfectly suited to individual tastes.
- "Hiden no Tare" (Original Spicy Red Seasoning): This secret blend of 30 different spices and ingredients, aged for several days, is a cornerstone of ICHIRAN's flavor profile. It adds a spicy, savory, and subtly sweet depth that enhances the ramen broth significantly.
- Efficient Order and Service System: The kiosk-based ordering and payment system, combined with the discreet curtain delivery, ensures a smooth, quick, and efficient dining process, ideal for the fast pace of Times Square.
- High-Quality Ingredients: Customers consistently praise the quality of the broth, fresh noodles, and additional toppings like tender Chashu pork, Kikurage mushrooms, and perfectly soft-boiled eggs. The special delivery noodles are also a testament to their commitment to quality, even for off-premise dining.
- Generous Portion Sizes: Many patrons note the satisfying portion sizes of the noodles, encouraging a hearty appetite upon arrival. The option for "Kae-Dama" (noodle refills) ensures no one leaves hungry.
- Unique Beverage Options: Beyond standard soft drinks, they offer Japanese sodas like Ramune and Calpico, and a distinctive Matcha Beer, providing interesting pairings for the ramen.
ICHIRAN Ramen NY Times Square generally focuses on the consistent quality and unique experience of its core offerings rather than frequent, broad promotions. Their pricing structure reflects the premium ingredients and distinctive dining concept.
However, New Yorkers can consider these aspects for value:
- Take Home Ramen Kits: While not a discount on dining in, the availability of Take Home Ramen Kits (Classic Tonkotsu and Vegan options) allows fans to enjoy ICHIRAN's quality at home, which can be a cost-effective way to have multiple servings.
- Combo Deals (Online): On delivery platforms like Grubhub and DoorDash, you might find bundled offers such as "Tonkotsu Ramen + Recommended Set Combo" or "Veggie Ramen + Recommended Set Combo," which combine the main ramen with a set of popular toppings at a slightly reduced combined price.
- Delivery Platform Specific Offers: Major delivery apps occasionally run promotions like free delivery for members (e.g., Grubhub+), or discounts on larger orders from specific restaurants, including ICHIRAN. Checking the app for their Times Square location would be the best way to find such short-term deals.

ICHIRAN Ramen NY Times Square Reviews
This is my first time at the Times Square location but still among the best Ramen outside of Tokyo. We got there around 8p on Friday and there was a small wait but nothing like the times I have seen the line out the door! This location is different that the other one in manhattan in that you order and pay at a terminal before you sit down and you get “receipts” with each item you hand over once you sit. It did make things easier so that you could just leave when done (and this was similar to how they do it in Tokyo). The cashier was super awesome and friendly. We sat down and handed over the tickets. Food came out fairly quick. And I enjoyed every last bite of the ramen. The broth is awesome (I bought the kit once and it’s not the same!). I tried the matcha beer this time and first sip was weird but then it grows on you. I actually enjoyed it better than the normal Asahi.Don’t feel like you have to order everything at the front, I ordered two beers bc I was afraid you couldn’t add on later lol, but you can order more food or drinks once you sit👍Ichiran is one of my fave ramen places (I know some people don’t like it) but we have never had a bad bowl! The only other ramen place I have truly enjoyed more in the US is in DC. Otherwise Thailand is the best ก๋วยเตี๋ยว noodles you can get!
Apr 24, 2025 · Stephen R (เท่ห์)Ichiran is an exceptional restaurant, particularly suitable for those seeking a traditional ramen experience. While it evokes the ambiance of Japanese establishments, it unfortunately comes with U.S. tourist pricing. We enhanced our meal by adding extra Katsu, seaweed, mushrooms, and soft-boiled egg, resulting in a hearty and satisfying dish.Upon entering, customers pay at the counter and hold onto their tickets until seated. The dining area consists of traditional booths with small walls separating each stool. Guests can hang their coats or bags, and a water dispenser is located in the center of the aisle for cold filtered water. To order beverages, customers can signal the server behind the curtain on the opposite side of the booth. This allows for requests such as dessert, drinks, or additional meal items. The dining experience was smooth and enjoyable, with a traditional ambiance. The parts of Japan I have visited share similar atmospheres, and while the taste may be superior in the motherland, this assessment may be biased.I highly recommend Ichiran, particularly for its generous portion sizes of noodles. However, it is advisable to arrive with an appetite.
Apr 27, 2025 · J LWhile visiting NYC, I had to stop by this well-known ramen spot—and it didn’t disappoint. I got there around 7 PM and, as expected, the line was out the door. No complaints though—if the line’s long, it’s usually a good sign.Once inside, the ordering process was smooth thanks to the iPad system. Seating was in small, individual booths, just like in Japan—definitely added to the authenticity. Now the ramen itself? Excellent. The broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles perfectly cooked, and everything came together in a way that shows they take their craft seriously. One tip: get the extra noodles up front. Waiting until you’re finished to order more kind of breaks the rhythm of the meal.Overall, this spot nails it—great food, cool atmosphere, and worth the wait. If you’re in NYC and craving ramen, this place should be on your list.
Apr 02, 2025 · TrevLoved the veggie ramen bowl, the flavor was fantastic and the service was great too! Just a small suggestion: it would be awesome to have more veggies in the bowl or as a side option so that vegans and vegetarians can enjoy it to the fullest. Overall, a great experience!
May 27, 2025 · raj nakraniVery nice ambience. Waittime is around 20-25 mins, completely worth it though. As a vegetarian, this is prolly one of the places where i felt like i had a complete and a proper meal. Very filling and excellent bowl of ramen. The staff are also very helpful and polite. Overall a very good experience, and a must try for fellow vegetarians.
