Inatome Japanese Steak + Sushi Introduce
For New Yorkers on Long Island, finding a Japanese restaurant that consistently delivers both exceptional cuisine and an inviting atmosphere can be a true find. In Valley Stream, Inatome Japanese Steak + Sushi has been a beloved institution, serving its community since 1975. Often described by loyal patrons as an "Underrated Gem," Inatome offers a versatile dining experience, seamlessly blending the theatrical excitement of hibachi with the refined artistry of traditional sushi. Whether you're planning a lively family celebration, a cozy date night, or a relaxed dinner with friends, Inatome aims to hit the mark, offering "impeccable" service, "exceptionally crafted" drinks, and "absolutely mouthwatering" food. It’s a place where dinner transforms into a show, and every visit feels like a special occasion.
Inatome Japanese Steak + Sushi is conveniently situated at 6 5th St, Valley Stream, NY 11581, USA. This location places it slightly off the main thoroughfares, giving it a "tucked away" feel that contributes to its "hidden gem" reputation, yet it remains highly accessible for residents of Valley Stream and surrounding communities in Nassau County. It's located "OFF Rockaway Ave, 3 blocks South of Sunrise Highway," making it easy to navigate to.
Accessibility to Inatome is generally good. For those arriving by car, street parking is often available, and patrons are advised to use metered street parking or the Wond-a-Rama Tire lot at the corner of Rockaway Ave & Fifth Street, rather than the parking lot directly across the restaurant. Valley Stream is well-connected by major roads, making driving a convenient option. While primarily a car-dependent area, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has a station in Valley Stream, and local bus routes can provide connectivity, making it reasonably accessible via public transportation for those willing to transfer. The deliberate design of their hibachi area with "smokeless downdraft ventilation" also contributes to a more comfortable and clean environment for all diners.
Inatome Japanese Steak + Sushi provides a diverse range of services to cater to various dining preferences and occasions:
Dine-In Hibachi Experience: A major draw, Inatome features multiple hibachi tables (11 in total) where "hibachi chefs bring the heat with skill and flair, turning dinner into a show." These tables are equipped with a "Down Draft Hibachi Table," a unique system in Nassau County, designed to be "safe, clean, smokeless for your comfort," enhancing the entertainment value without compromising comfort.
Dine-In Sushi Bar & Traditional Dining: Beyond the lively hibachi, Inatome also offers a dedicated sushi bar and a separate dining room for those preferring a more traditional and intimate Japanese dining experience. This allows guests to enjoy fresh sushi and other authentic Japanese dishes crafted by their skilled team, including renowned Chef Hiroki Nagahashi.
Omakase Experience: For the true sushi connoisseur, Inatome offers an Omakase experience, which customers rave about as "an artful showcase of sushi crafted with precision." The fish is described as "exceptionally fresh, rivaling top establishments in NYC," providing a curated and elevated culinary journey.
Takeout & Delivery: Inatome provides takeout and delivery services, with a noted "excellent delivery game" by some long-time patrons. They also have a new expansion, "Inatome's HibachiBachi in Lynbrook," specifically focused on convenient takeout options like Hibachi Bowls.
Full Bar with Craft Cocktails: The restaurant features a well-stocked bar offering a variety of beverages, including "exceptionally crafted" and "nice and strong" drinks, such as their popular margaritas. They also offer a selection of Japanese beers and sake.
Reservations Accepted: While not always necessary, Inatome accepts reservations, which can be particularly helpful for planning for groups or during peak times, ensuring a smoother dining experience.
Catering: While not explicitly detailed, as a full-service Japanese restaurant with diverse offerings, Inatome likely provides catering options for private events and gatherings, extending their culinary excellence beyond the restaurant walls.
Inatome Japanese Steak + Sushi is celebrated for several distinctive features that enhance the dining experience:
Engaging Hibachi Showmanship: The hibachi chefs are a major highlight, known for their "skill and flair," turning dinner into an interactive and "lively" show. This is particularly appealing for "fun family evening" and celebrations.
Exceptional Sushi & Omakase: Beyond the hibachi, the sushi is a significant draw. The Omakase is praised for its "exceptionally fresh" fish and artistic presentation, with patrons calling it a rival to "top establishments in NYC." The presence of "Chef Hiroki Nagahashi and his team" further underscores the commitment to quality.
Strong & Crafted Drinks: The bar is consistently lauded for its "nice and strong" and "exceptionally crafted" cocktails, including popular margaritas. This adds a sophisticated touch to the dining experience, perfect for "girls' or guys' night out."
Impeccable & Friendly Service: A standout feature is the "impeccable" and "very attentive and friendly" staff. Patrons frequently mention the warm welcome from Mrs. Inatome and the efficient, accommodating service, creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
Clean and Welcoming Vibe: Despite not being overly "fancy," the restaurant is described as having a "clean, welcoming vibe," which sets a pleasant tone from the moment guests walk in.
Versatile for Various Occasions: Inatome's ability to cater to different needs is a key highlight. It's described as "intimate, lively, and versatile – perfect for any occasion worth celebrating," whether it's a "cozy date night," a "laid-back dinner with friends," or a family outing.
Long-Standing Local Legacy: Having been in business since 1975 and "own and operated by Japanese family," Inatome boasts a rich history and deep roots in the community, earning multi-generational loyalty.
It is worth noting that while overwhelmingly positive, some older reviews mention specific dishes (e.g., onion soup, edamame, gyoza, certain sushi rolls) that were found to be "bland" or "underwhelming." However, these seem to be isolated incidents or older perspectives, with more recent reviews overwhelmingly praising the "mouthwatering" food and overall "great experience."
While specific limited-time promotions are best confirmed directly with the restaurant, Inatome Japanese Steak + Sushi likely offers several ongoing value propositions:
Lunch Specials: Many Japanese steakhouses and sushi restaurants, including Inatome, typically offer more affordable lunch specials, which can be an excellent way to experience their cuisine at a value price. Their menu lists "Lunch Specials" and "Hibachi Lunch To Go" options.
Happy Hour: Inatome mentions "Happy Hour" on their menu, indicating potential discounts on drinks and perhaps appetizers at their bar, perfect for a pre-dinner gathering.
Hibachi Dinner Combos: Their hibachi dinner menu features various combination options (e.g., Chicken and Filet Mignon, Shrimp and Steak), which often provide better value than ordering individual entrees.
Party Trays/Family Meals: The general "generous portion sizes" mentioned by diners, alongside the nature of hibachi dining, suggests they may offer options well-suited for larger groups, providing a cost-effective way to feed a party.
Omakase Experience: While an elevated experience, the Omakase itself is a curated offering that provides a unique culinary journey for a set price, often representing excellent value for the quality and artistry involved.

Inatome Japanese Steak + Sushi Reviews
This place wasn't as busy as I thought it'd be on a Friday night. We made reservations to be on the safe side, but it wasn't necessary at all. As far as the food, it was very underwhelming. The onion soup was very bland, edamame was a little overcooked, and the gyoza were mediocre. The avocado salad we ordered was the best appetizer but in my opinion not worth the price for half an avocado and lettuce. We also ordered some sushi rolls and sorry to say, they weren't anything special as they were bland too 😩 I will say the service was very good and margeritas nice and strong. Staff were all very attent and friendly.

May 13, 2025 · Elaine Williams(Reviewed by an 8 yr old)The food was nice. Recommend getting the steak because it was amazing 2nd best steak I ever had. The service was extremely nice because we forget our to go food and they came out to bring it to us before we left. And they were extremely kind. They even give you three to four minutes of entertainment. It might be a little chilly even with the steam coming in front of you.
Apr 27, 2025 · Melysa M.L. SolomonThis is a hiding gem in Valley Stream. The restaurant is super spacious. The service is great. The hibachi show takes about an hour because they cook it by item. Maybe some people wouldn't like the fact they have to wait until the end to eat the protein when all the rest of the food is getting cold. But that is why it is called hibachi.
May 30, 2024 · Edith M AshrafWe came last night and had a fantastic time! We were a group of 4 but still got our own hibachi table. The chef was amazing and made out night with his humor and skills. Everyome from the owner who took our reservation, to the waiter and service staff, were extremely nice, attentive, and welcoming. The atmosphere both inside and out was wonderful as well. We'll see you again soon!
