KAI ZAN CHICAGO, established in 2012, is a highly acclaimed Japanese restaurant situated in Chicago's West Chicago Avenue neighborhood. It is the brainchild of local sushi legends Melvin and Carlo Vizconde, twin brothers also known as the "sushi twins," who bring nearly two decades of experience to their craft. - Exceptional Omakase Experience: The omakase menu is a significant highlight, offering an "amazing and efficiently paced" tasting journey that showcases the chefs' creativity and skill. Many consider it one of the best omakase deals in the city.
- Impeccable Quality of Fish: Customer reviews consistently praise the "very good quality" of the fish, with items like otoro sashimi described as "fatty and melting in your mouth" and scallop sashimi as "soft and fatty."

KAI ZAN CHICAGO, as a highly-regarded Japanese restaurant, primarily offers value through the exceptional quality of its food and dining experience rather than consistent discount promotions. However, certain aspects can be considered inherent "special offers":
- Omakase Value: The omakase tasting menu, while a premium experience, is often highlighted by patrons as one of the "best omakase deals in the city" for its quality and breadth of dishes, especially compared to other high-end options. Some older reports mention prices as low as $50-$90 for a multi-course omakase, which would be exceptional value if still available. Current menu prices may vary.
- "Early Bird Special": One review alluded to an "Early Bird Special" which offered "insane value" and was potentially the "best deal for sushi in the city in terms of bang for your buck." This suggests occasional or time-specific offers that provide enhanced value. Customers interested in such specials should inquire directly with the restaurant or monitor their social media/website.
- Delivery Platform Promotions: Like many restaurants, KAI ZAN may participate in promotional deals offered through third-party delivery services (e.g., Grubhub, DoorDash). These can include discounts on orders over a certain amount or reduced/free delivery fees for a limited time. It is recommended to check these platforms for current offers.
Given the high demand and quality, KAI ZAN's primary "promotion" is the consistent excellence of its food and service, which draws repeat customers and high recommendations.

Apr 11, 2025 · Nancy SHaving eaten at Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo it took me a while to finally give Kai Zan a chance, which in itself is ridiculous, look at the reviews. I get now why there are so many great reviews. I dined solo and got the perfect spot to watch the kitchen do their magic. Went with the omakase and it was amazing and efficiently paced. Watching my dishes being prepared by the chefs and then delivered by the attentive and friendly staff was a treat. I was particularly impressed to watch chef Melvin craft a rose out of wasabi for someone's sashimi plate. Like many others, I can't wait to go back.
Apr 20, 2025 · Andrew SWithout a doubt, this is the best sushi I have tried. Ended up doing the omakase experience and it was very well worth it. Every entree was beautifully presented, rich in multiple flavors that just melted in your mouth. The dining experience itself was lovely and wonderful staff. I am looking forward for my next outing.
Apr 17, 2025 · Gonzalo DuranThis is the best omakase course you can do in Chicago. The price is justified by not only the quality of the dishes but the size/quantity of the dishes. You won’t leave feeling hungry which I find to be a common issue with other omakase courses. The presentation of every dish was unique and really highlighted the item brought out. Highly recommend, can’t wait to go back.
Apr 02, 2025 · Gregory ReyesWe did a la carte and everything was outstanding. The space is inviting and warm—especially in the booths! The service was a bit too quick sometimes when dropping off items, but if you have questions they’re definitely willing to help. Given how complex some of the dishes are and that I’m by no means a fish expert, the almost drive-by speed announcements when delivering items sometimes made it difficult to understand what was placed on our table. Other than that it seemed to be good value and I’m definitely looking forward to trying out the omakase next time! We especially enjoyed the maguro pearls, the polenta bites that had a wonderful warm creamy polenta wrapped in escolar, the taro tuna-scallop handroll, orange rush, and the chef’s choice sashimi which had delicious cuts of fish.
