Katsu Introduce
For those seeking an unparalleled culinary journey in the realm of Japanese cuisine, Katsu, located at 859 Villa St, Mountain View, CA 94041, USA, stands out as a distinguished destination. Operating within the "Doctor Near Me" platform category, which suggests a focus on precision, expertise, and personalized care, Katsu embodies these very principles in its approach to sushi, offering a specialized and high-quality experience akin to a finely tuned medical practice for your palate.
Katsu provides an atmosphere that is both beautiful and intimate, designed to foster a deeply personal dining experience. The restaurant is notably small, featuring only eight seats directly in front of the chef's table. This limited seating capacity is a deliberate choice, emphasizing exclusivity and allowing for a highly personalized interaction between the diners and the chef. Guests frequently laud the "intimate atmosphere" and the overall ambiance, which contributes significantly to the special occasion feel of dining at Katsu. The focus is clearly on the craft and the connection, rather than a bustling, large-scale dining hall. The setting encourages conversation and observation, allowing guests to appreciate the meticulous artistry involved in preparing each dish. This intimate setting is perfect for a special celebration, a quiet evening, or for true sushi connoisseurs who appreciate the nuances of a chef-driven experience.
The service at Katsu is as refined as its cuisine. With only eight seats, guests are assured of receiving direct and personalized attention from the talented chef-owner, Katsu Maruyama. This level of engagement transforms the meal into an interactive experience, where guests can converse with the chef, observe his precise techniques, and even learn about the origin and preparation of the ingredients. Customers consistently praise the "wonderful, fun energy" exuded by the staff and chefs, which enhances the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. The staff's attentiveness ensures that every need is anticipated and met, contributing to a seamless and memorable meal. This personalized service is a hallmark of the omakase tradition, where trust in the chef's expertise is paramount, and Katsu truly delivers on this promise.
The defining feature of Katsu is its authentic Japanese Edomae-style Omakase. Omakase, meaning "I'll leave it up to you," signifies a multi-course tasting menu entirely curated by the chef, showcasing the freshest and most seasonal ingredients available. Chef Katsu Maruyama, with over 31 years of experience, including 19 years working alongside the renowned Nobu Matsuhisa, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his craft. Each day, Chef Maruyama designs an omakase menu based on the finest-quality ingredients sourced directly from Japan, offering up to 20 courses. This dedication to fresh, seasonal, and high-quality ingredients is consistently highlighted in customer reviews, with diners noting the "fresh and seasonal" fish and other components. The chef's skill in seasoning the food "just enough to let the natural flavors shine" is a testament to his understanding of traditional Edomae sushi, where the inherent taste of the fish is paramount. The menu is intentionally changed for returning customers, demonstrating the chef's commitment to innovation and ensuring a unique experience with every visit. While specific prices for the omakase can vary with the season and ingredients, Katsu's omakase experience is generally considered to be in the higher price tier for elite sushi, with reports of exclusive omakase experiences priced around $290 per person, requiring a $150 deposit. It's important to note that due to the nature of omakase, substitutions are generally not accommodated unless specified at the time of reservation. The restaurant is also unable to accommodate shellfish or crustacean allergies, nor can it offer gluten-free soy sauce or cater to gluten-free dietary restrictions, underscoring its commitment to a specific, traditional culinary approach.
Given the highly exclusive and personalized nature of Katsu, promotions in the traditional sense (like discounts or deals) are not typically advertised. The value proposition lies in the unique, high-end culinary experience itself, rather than promotional pricing. However, the restaurant's commitment to quality and consistency serves as its strongest form of "promotion," attracting discerning diners who prioritize exceptional food and service. Booking a reservation at Katsu is highly recommended, and given the limited seating, it is essential to plan ahead. Reservations can be made through platforms like Tock, and a deposit per person is typically required. The restaurant operates Tuesday through Saturday, from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. For specific inquiries or to make a reservation, direct contact through their website or the reservation platform is advised. While Katsu focuses on its in-house omakase experience, it is distinct from other local Japanese restaurants that may offer general sushi menus or special deals on "Katsu curry" or party trays for pickup or delivery, as found on various food delivery platforms. Katsu is a destination for a specific, elevated sushi experience, emphasizing the chef's selection and fresh, seasonal ingredients.
In conclusion, Katsu in Mountain View is a highly recommended destination for anyone seeking an authentic, high-quality, and intimate Edomae-style omakase sushi experience. Its focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients, the masterful skill of Chef Katsu Maruyama, and the personalized service create a truly memorable dining event, setting it apart as a premier sushi establishment in the Bay Area.

Katsu Reviews
Overall a great omakase experience with high-quality ingredients. I’ve been there twice, and the second time they intentionally changed the menu, which I really appreciated. The fish and other ingredients were fresh and seasonal. I especially like how the chef seasons the food just enough to let the natural flavors shine. The price is reasonable for the quality and experience you get.
March 23 · Jiayu LiI recently went to Katsu for my friend's birthday, and wow, what an amazing experience it was! Not only was the ambiance a beautiful, intimate atmosphere, but the staff and chefs exuded this wonderful, fun energy that made the dining experience that much more fun. The food itself was so delicious and so well thought out. From the conversation and observation of the chef's work, you can tell that each step is well thought out and intentional. Thinking about it now makes my mouth water - can't wait to come back again!!10/10 would recommend for yall to stop by and experience this for yourself!

January 24 · Micheal MachekLovely experience! All the sushi pieces delicious!!Fish were fish.Non of the dishes particularly stood out in terms of the taste and look.Service is awesome, clear description provided from chef on how each piece was prepared and where they originated from.Wasn’t a fan of the seafood tasting tamago dessert.
April 28 · L CThis is a new sushi omakase in Mountain View, many courses and every course is delicious and the menu changes based on seasonal ingredients. Reasonable pricing comparing to other omakase restaurants in SF and Bay Area. Highly recommended.
