Kokumi Reviews
My best friend and I were looking to avoid a 1 hour wait at boiling point on a Saturday night. So we decided to give Kokumi a try. We frequent this place before when it was Mokkoji. And we are glad to report that they have the same fire crab broth that Mokkoji had and the meat quality here is exceptional.Entrees:Fire crab broth with Wagyu toro and steak (Pick 2 meats for 27.99) and + 5 for fire crab brothThe Highlights:You get a bowl of vegetable, ponzu sauce/sesame sauce and a piece of tofuThe wagyu toro was perfect meat to fat ratioThe fire crab broth was spicy, tangy, crabby (but not fishy) and savoryAreas for improvement:Wish they had better hot sauce other than the chili oil they had on the tableThe tofu didn’t have a stamp like previous restaurantWish the ramen they put in the vegetable bowl would of been the whole pack first half a pack. Also, wish the tables for two people were a little bit bigger because we barely had space. Also, maybe if they can place some soft music in the background to blend out other people conversations.Tips:*Accepts Credit Cards*Restroom for customers.*Indoor seating only*They sell wine, beer in bottles and on draft.*Same plaza as Blaze Pizza and Vons.*Parking lot is free and shared with other businesses
May 03, 2025 · Jimmy SuI’ve been going to this shabu shabu place before 2019 and I absolutely love it. Some things of the menu have changed but the food is still delicious. I tried the 12.99 special with the spicy crab broth and it was delicious. You get nice portions of meat and veggies. The sesame sauce has always been my favorite too. The service and food was great.
Apr 10, 2025 · yvonne ricoUpdate 4/29/25Definitely love the broth options and quality/quantity of meat they give for the price. Their goma is top notch as well. Seems like we forget about this place, until we want Shabu but I want broth other than the basic miso, tomato, etc from one of our go To’s. The difference is service for sure. It’s not bad, but they always seem to be short handed. At least they have a sign up front noting that now as you sign in. Only one person up front and looked like just one in back Tuesday night.Dining is inside now as the tent seems to be gone for good. They had it for quite some time after covid, but all things must come to an end I guess.Building is harder to find than I remember as they don’t have a sign up and is sandwiched between a couple other businesses with signs. Good luck getting new customers. Anyway, they seem content with the mostly regulars inside. They do have a special going for $12.99 with limited meat options and only OG broth, which is a good deal if you don’t like soup, just dipping, but the whole table must order the same and no substitutions allowed. For us, we went with spicy miso and fire crab with Kokumi wagyu for me and prime and stock combo for my GF. There was a ton of meat! We ordered the large, because it said 8 vs 12 pieces of meat for reg vs large which didn’t seem like a lot, but as you can see from the pics, they don’t count their pieces :) miso is a little eatery to start until it cooks down, but the fire crab was flavorful from the start. Will be back.——-Used to come here before Covid and was pretty awesome all around. Stopped coming because service went down hill and there were so many other Shabu options around to try. Fast forward a few years and wanted to give them another try. They are exclusively outside dining now. Good for us since we have a pup.Meat quality was good, not great. Sauces were also good, but have had some better Goma sauces at other establishments. My gf didn’t love her spicy miso (a little watery) but I enjoyed my fire crab broth. Probably because I was getting tired of the typical miso, tomato and konbu you get everywhere else. They also have Tom Yum, kimchee and a few other options so the variety was a pleasant surprise. I though the price was pretty reasonable as well.Service was decent, but you do have to flag people down for extra sauce and water. Last but not least, we noticed they had the other garnishes like green onion and garlic at their base station, but didn’t offer it unless you asked. Same with the spice drops. I asked for some and they wouldn’t let me serve myself which was a little annoying. We will be back because of the outdoor seating/pet friendly and broth variety. Service was good enough and we have a little experience under our belt for next time.
Apr 30, 2025 · David ChoFirst time trying and we enjoyed the food. They're short on staff, but we didn't mind too much. Good thing it wasn't a busy night though. We ordered their $12.99 meal and wagyu toro set. Both were really good and filling for us. Restrooms are found in the back and not that hard to find like the other reviewer mentioned. Good amount of parking too. Staff couldn't make sushi since they were short on staff and only shabu shabu available.
Oct 28, 2024 · D LKokumi has become one of my favorite local hot pot places. Whenever I get the craving, I always find myself coming here instead of BP or Jazz Cat. I love all the options they have and it’s always so good every time I come. My favorite has been the sukiyaki soup base with pork. They are short staffed so sometimes it may take some time but that doesn’t bother me. Sometimes it can get pretty packed so you might have to wait a bit but I’ve seen people get seated quickly if they choose to sit at the bar.Tonight I tried the $12.99 beef or pork special because I wasn’t too hungry and it was perfect. I never tend to finish everything but I did today. You get the original soup base, a smaller selection of veggies than what you’d usually get, ramen, a bowl of rice, and either beef or pork. No substitutions are allowed. I will say that the original soup base is very basic so it could seem a bit unflavored compared to the other soup bases they offer but I liked it. It’s very clean.
