Firstly, their signature homemade sauces are a significant draw. It elevates even the simplest of dishes, making the teriyaki chicken or beef a truly satisfying and memorable meal. The quick service and convenient location within Castleton Mall make it an ideal choice for a fast lunch break or a post-shopping dinner without the wait times of a sit-down restaurant.

The simple and comforting menu, with its focus on classic teriyaki and rice combinations, also ensures that there's something for almost everyone, including those who may not be adventurous eaters. Maki of Japan Reviews
BEWARE. My wife almost swallowed a metal wire from her teriyaki chicken at Maki of Japan in Castleton Mall. We’ve been eating here for over 10 years because we love their sauce, even though service and food quality has gone down a lot lately. On April 16, 2025, we picked up our usual order. My wife and 3-year-old son were sharing theirs, and just a few bites in, she screamed and pulled out a metal wire from her mouth. If our son had gotten it instead, this could’ve been a medical emergency.I took the wire back to the workers. They barely reacted—just said “sorry” and gave it back to me like it was no big deal. No manager, no real apology, no concern at all. I’m guessing the wire came from the grill brush they use. Totally unsafe. We’ve been loyal customers for years, but this was the last straw. Think twice before eating here—especially if you’re feeding kids.Already reported the incidents to the Simons mall management hope they inspect this place asap. If I do not hear from them within a week, I will reach out to Yelps/BBB/Health dept to make sure their manager is fully aware and retrain themselves & their employees.4/18/25 UPDATE, they quickly escalated the issue, mall had a short meeting with the store manager to prevent future incident like this. Manager contacted me personally and apologized sincerely with explanation on what had happened and what would be their resolution plans are. Also admitted that metal object was from the kitchen cleaning tool and understood how devastating it would be if my 3yr old swallowed it. I accepted the apology and thanked them all for the quick response. I refused both the refund and free food offers as apology & retraining process was all I needed for me.
April 18 · JKThe food portion was so poor. The amount of food they put in for the amount of money you pay is absolutely ridiculous. Customer service was also horrendous. Never buying from this place again.
July 30 · Brooklyn YorkThis place is not what it use to be. Barely put any chicken on your plate and the food is about a 5 out of 10. Did I mention the price is expensive for the amount you get now? Years ago you would get plenty of food, For a good price. They are not friendly either here. It’s a complete rip off and I will never buy here again.
January 10 · naomi LThis place was horrible. The cashier named Jennifer was extremely rude, laughing when unable to understand us and laughing with other workers. The rice was hard, and the chicken was cold and bad. Don’t eat here!
March 22 · Maya RedwoodI think the food is decent for a quick mall-food-court option. The pricing is out of control lately… I remember when their slogan was “double meat, 99 cents”Now double meat is 3.29… So Teriyaki chicken and rice and a coke costs 20 dollars. Could have had a much better lunch for the money.
