Marufuku Ramen

12841 El Camino Real #204, San Diego, CA 92130, USA

4.0
Overall, our visit to Marufuku Ramen was a mixed experience. While the setting in Del Mar Highlands is a total vibe and our server was genuinely kind and attentive, two things significantly impacted our impression.Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen – 4.5/5This was the highlight of the meal. The broth was rich and creamy, the noodles were cooked just right, and the soft-boiled egg was perfectly runny. Truly a standout dish that showcases what Marufuku does best!Seasonal Mazesoba – 2/5Unfortunately, this was where things fell apart. My husband mentioned it was “too al dente,” but continued eating it (without even enjoying it). When I tried it after he ate 1/3 of it, I realized the noodles weren’t just “too al dente”…they were completely undercooked. It felt like they’d been boiled for half the necessary time. Not only did that ruin the dish, but my husband (who rarely has stomach issues) experienced stomach discomfort after our dinner, likely from the undercooked noodles. We ended up taking the rest home so we can re-cook the noodles ourselves. We also found it strange that the restaurant adds a 4% surcharge “to cover increasing costs.” While we understand rising expenses, it feels odd to pass that cost onto guestsI’d definitely return only for the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen, but after the mazesoba incident, I’d hesitate to try anything else on the menu. - Valerie Wan

Marufuku Ramen Introduce

### Introduction / Overview

Located within the highly popular and stylish Del Mar Highlands Town Center in San Diego, Marufuku Ramen brings a taste of authentic Hakata-style ramen to the California coast. This acclaimed ramen restaurant is a part of a larger chain, founded in San Francisco in 2017, and has since expanded to multiple locations, becoming a well-recognized name for its dedication to traditional Japanese ramen. Marufuku Ramen specializes in its signature milky and umami-rich broth, meticulously prepared by boiling pork bones for extended hours, complemented by ultra-thin artisanal noodles that perfectly absorb the rich flavors.

While the overall experience at Marufuku Ramen can be mixed, with some dishes falling short, the true highlight and consistent praise go to their Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen. This signature dish is frequently described as "the highlight of the meal," with its "rich and creamy" broth, "noodles cooked just right," and a "perfectly runny" soft-boiled egg. It's truly a "standout dish that showcases what Marufuku does best!" Beyond this beloved staple, the menu also features a rich white chicken paitan ramen, a variety of appetizers, and mini-sized rice bowls. The restaurant's setting in the "Sky Deck" of Del Mar Highlands provides a lively "vibe," and the staff, particularly the servers, are often noted for being "genuinely kind and attentive," striving to ensure a positive dining experience despite occasional service inconsistencies.

### Location and Accessibility

Marufuku Ramen is strategically situated at 12841 El Camino Real #204, San Diego, CA 92130, USA. This address places it within the bustling and trendy Sky Deck at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center. Its location within a major shopping center offers significant advantages regarding accessibility. The Del Mar Highlands Town Center provides ample parking options, including 10 and 20-minute parking stalls for quick visits and a larger parking infrastructure for longer stays, making it convenient for diners arriving by car. Marufuku Ramen is "tucked away in the corner of the second floor Sky Deck," which might require a bit of searching but is "well worth the search" for its culinary offerings. The Sky Deck itself is designed to be a modern and engaging space, generally offering good walkability and accessibility within the complex. While specific details on direct ramp access to the second floor are not provided in the reviews, the overall design of such modern centers typically includes elevators or ramps for accessibility.
