Matsuba Izakaya Reviews
Passable izakaya. The sushi rolls were missing avocado when they mentioned it should contain it. The sake karma collar bone was very raw still. The ramen was just eh. Not the type of noodles you usually get from say kyuramen, but at least portions were large for it with decent flavor. The geso karaage was very burnt and chewy. Overall, the redeeming quality was the chicken skin and thigh skewers and relatively cheap sushi rolls and food. Otherwise, I would pass this place, unless you want a fix for skewers and some ok sushi rolls.
Apr 20, 2025 · Silas CIf I lived closer to this place I would go way more often. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. It's small and intimate. Made for socializing with delicious food. Think Japanese tapas.
Apr 07, 2025 · MXL MXLWe got yakitori, yellowtail nigiri, and a special yellowtail roll with asparagus and sweet potato in it.The yakitori was undercooked (slightly) and mostly flavorless. The nigiri was unbalanced. The fish quality was okay, but there was no wasabi to taste, and I have a very low spicy tolerance! The maki would have been good if not for the asparagus, and when we removed it, it drastically improved, but meh. The maki was very pretty, however. The service was good! The waiter returned pretty quickly and refilled drinks.I don’t think I’d return, but it beats most of the sushi in Davis!
May 28, 2025 · Ben Perlmutterthe food here was awesome and the restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. i highly recommend the sake aburi! it is so delicious. i also got a giant shell for free from the dinner
May 14, 2025 · alice zhouAfter a standup show at the Cavalier Theatre, we decided to try this place—and wow, what a gem! The rave reviews and late hours (open till 11:30!) made it an easy choice for dinner. With a big group, we went all out, ordering tons of sushi rolls and specialty rolls. The apps? Incredible. Silken tofu, soup, ramen and the bacon-wrapped shiitake—each dish was better than the last.Even the vegetarians in our group were blown away, marking this as their new go-to spot for veggie sushi. Every bite was a hit, and we’re already planning to come back!
