Mido Omakase - West Village Reviews
Service: 5+ ExceptionalFood: 5 ExcellentMido in WV exceeded expectations on all fronts. Highlights: personalized service; attentive chef and staff; special selections of fish not usually served by other restaurants. $100 for such an omakase experience is a no-brainer, especially in the city.I've eaten a lot of sushi around the world and have a bit of a spoiled palate. For omakases, the expectation is usually high due to the notion experiencing the best the chef currated along with the higher price point of the meal.I reserved Mido on a whim for a Monday night meal in a city famous for its variety of exceptional omakase options.Service: the chef was actively watching our every reaction to each individual piece presented and made adjustments accordingly. For example, my gf didn't like the japanese squid app for its texture and strong flavour and I thought the scallop nigiri's yuzu salt was a bit over-powering (both were personal preferrences). We were not vocal about any of this but the chef recognized our slight hesitations and provided extra pieces as a consolation! Pleasantly surprised! They also had a server present a photo of each whole fish on an iPad with both the English and Japanese names in order for us to visualize what we were tasting.Food: I was very pleased with the quality of the fish. More so, I was surprised by the variety, especially with a few pieces that I have not tried before. We are all sick of salmon and yellowtail. Chef's usage of flavours was overall expertly executed and paired well with the individual pieces. Conclusion: don't miss this omakase experience especially at a steal of a price point.
May 14 · Norris LiuWe came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday and they were kind enough to let us in at 10pm. The whole experience was amazing and they had so many unique fish that you couldn’t find elsewhere (fish fins)! They also gave us free sake and green tea. 5 stars all around

The sweet shrimp with caviar? Absolute perfection. If you’re lucky, you can still catch the seasonal firefly squid — it’s a must-try!

The chefs meticulously marinate, cure, and age each ingredient, resulting in a menu that is both artful and satisfying. The ambiance is calm and confident, providing a high quality omakase without the typical high-end price tag.Menu - $100 classic dinner omakase including 13 pieces of nigiri, an appetizer, and a mini kaisendon; and a $150 seasonal omakase that adds extra appetizers and dessert.
