Moshi Moshi Sushi & Izakaya is widely praised for its "really nice atmosphere" and "cool atmosphere," creating a distinct "izakaya vibe." The restaurant features modern decor, including a captivating 18-foot sculpted metal tree illuminated with LED lights, which twinkles and sparkles late into the night, adding a touch of contemporary elegance and visual interest. This thoughtfully designed space enhances the overall dining experience, making it suitable for a variety of occasions, from casual dinners to special outings. Moshi Moshi Sushi & Izakaya is celebrated for its commitment to high-quality ingredients and a diverse menu that extends beyond typical sushi offerings. Many consider it to have "the best sushi in Ballard," a testament to the freshness and skill of their sushi chefs. The restaurant specializes in traditional Japanese sushi and cuisine, using the highest quality ingredients available, with fresh seafood either locally caught or flown in from Japan's Toyosu Fish Market. Their award-winning Sushi Master Chef leads the culinary team, crafting beautifully balanced bites of glistening yellowtail belly, Spanish mackerel, and impossibly sweet hunks of king crab.
Key highlights from their menu include:
- Sushi and Sashimi: While one reviewer mentioned that "some of the sushi could have been fresher," the overall consensus leans towards high quality, with specific praise for the innovative rolls and beautifully composed nigiri. They offer a range of sushi and sashimi assortments, including Premium Sushi Assortment and Sashimi Assortment.
- Izakaya (Small Plates): The izakaya aspect of Moshi Moshi is a significant draw, offering a "nice selection of food and drink." The calamari is a popular choice, described as "great" and served in a "quite large" dish. Other hot appetizers include Pork Gyoza, Shrimp Gyoza, Chicken Karaage, and unique items like Bacon Wrapped Mochi and Piri Ten Calamari.
- Unique Menu Items: Moshi Moshi distinguishes itself by offering dishes not commonly found elsewhere, such as Omurice (a Japanese omelet rice dish). They also feature a robust selection of Robata Grill items, including grilled lamb, various meats like Wagyu, and vegetables, showcasing a broader culinary range. Their extensive menu also includes a variety of ramen, udon, and soba noodles, as well as classic entrees like Teriyaki and Tempura.
- Dietary Accommodations: A significant feature is their designated gluten-free menu and clearly marked vegan/vegetarian options, demonstrating their commitment to catering to diverse dietary needs. This makes it an inclusive dining spot for many.
- Craft Cocktails and Drinks: Moshi Moshi boasts an "exciting cocktail menu" crafted by skilled bartenders, offering a selection of innovative and classic drinks to complement the meal. They also have a comprehensive sake menu.
The dedication to providing a well-developed menu with both traditional staples and unique creations, prepared with quality ingredients, makes Moshi Moshi a standout in the Ballard dining scene.
Moshi Moshi Sushi & Izakaya is recognized for its high quality, which is reflected in its pricing. Customers note that it "is a little pricy though," with an estimated cost of around "$150 with drinks and tip for two." However, many feel that the value is there for the quality received, stating, "We ate well." The restaurant often features happy hour specials (typically Monday-Saturday, 4:30-6 p.m., and late-night happy hour Monday-Thursday, 10-11:30 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 11 p.m.-1 a.m.) where popular items like crab- and cream-cheese-stuffed tiger rolls are offered at reduced prices. These happy hour deals provide a more affordable way to experience Moshi Moshi's quality offerings. While it may not be a frequent visit for some due to the cost, the overall consensus is that the experience—combining the atmosphere, service, and exceptional food—is well worth the price. The "great selection of food and drink" ensures that diners feel they are getting a premium experience for their investment.

Moshi Moshi Sushi & Izakaya Reviews
Great restaurant with a really nice atmosphere, nice selection of food and drink. The calamari was great and the dish was quite large. Service was friendly and attentive. Some of the sushi could have been fresher but overall the meal was very good. The izakaya vibe and overall atmosphere was great. Spent $150 with drinks and tip for two. We ate well.
May 19 · Scott MooreThis is the best sushi in Ballard. Shiku next door is more affordable but the menu at Moshi Moshi is very well developed and has things I don't see often, like omurice. They also have a designated gluten-free menu, cool atmosphere, and great service. It is a little pricy though, and I don't visit as often as I would like because of that.
April 16 · Zoe MBeen here multiple times, and each has been wonderful service and even better food. My go to sushi restaurant in Seattle. Go if you get the chance!!
February 23 · Lauren ForsterLike most of Ballard (and Seattle, unfortunately), you get $20 and service for $30. That said, they used to have THE BEST bento box lunch for a very reasonable price. Their vegetable tempura especially was fantastic, maybe the best I’ve had in Seattle. Unfortunately they’ve since closed for lunch and the few times I’ve gone for dinner I’ve been very disappointed, unable to finish the two appetizers I had ordered for a light dinner. The tempura I had ordered that night was thankfully comped, but it was a far, far cry from what I had consistently been served for lunch.
May 13 · Colin SmallLove this spot! Got the Moshi Moshi roll, Geisha roll, and the Cali Crunch roll. Everything was fantastic and it came out really fast. It’s definitely a great experience if you are celebrating an occasion or just going out for a date.
