Mutsu Reviews
Had the absolute pleasure of going to the opening of this GORGEOUS new gem on La Cienega. I am a big fan of Asian cuisine and ESPECAILLY anything sushi / sake / Japanese! Outside of Japan I have never seen a take on tapas like they do here at Mutsu. The food was incredible and what a collection of interesting sake. I tried for the first time a "sparkling sake" with yuzu that was amazing. The restaurant is small, only bar seating and one table with quite possibly the grooviest light suspended above if from the ceiling. Reservations are a MUST. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning ... if we can get a reservation !!
August 18 · Loren DunsworthMutsu is a newly opened Japanese izakaya that’s already worth the visit. The space is stunning—the bar is carved from stone, softly lit, and feels both modern and intimate. Sitting there, you get a front-row seat to watch the chefs in action, which really adds to the whole experience. The food was fantastic—a fresh spin on Japanese classics. Even the simple things, like miso soup and edamame, tasted elevated. The fennel salad was a standout too—so fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The bao were pillowy soft and packed with flavor, and the bowls (we tried wagyu and salmon) were beautifully presented and tasted just as good as they looked. But the star for me? The black sesame crème brûlée. Absolutely amazing—rich just as needed, and unlike anything I’ve had before.Overall, Mutsu nails the balance of atmosphere, design, and flavor. It’s the kind of place you want to come back to, and I’m excited to see how the menu evolves now that they’ve just opened.Go try now!
August 17 · MargauxMutsu is great new addition to the neighborhood with it's Japanese inspired cuisine, tasteful decor and relaxed atmosphere. Service was friendly and attentive. Shirashi bowls, Wagyu Bao Buns and zucchini tempura were winners as well as excellent desserts. Highly recommended.
August 18 · Marco PeruzziWow, I was completely blown away !!!This is hands down the best new Japanese restaurant in LA. The setting is intimate and thoughtfully designed, with an ambiance that feels both refined and serene. Each dish was executed with such care and depth of flavor: the grilled edamame was the perfect start, the Uni Chawanmushi was luxuriously delicate, the Wagyu & Shrimp Bao was a surprising standout, the Wagyu & Shiitake Yakitori was flawlessly tender, and the Chirashi Bowl with salmon was as fresh and balanced as it gets.Chef Alex is truly a talent — every plate reflects his vision and passion. A dining experience that feels truly special. Can’t wait to go back !A dining experience that feels truly special.
August 18 · Ken AlcazarModern Japanese feel throughout. I'll bet the decorator is a hottie. Just feels that way, this is going to be a special place in LA-LA land for interesting people who want unique and delicious food at an approachable value in a central area of town. I went by myself to check it out, staff made me feel totally welcome and I met some cool folks at the lighted stone bar seating area. Which, IMO, makes this place great.
