Nabemono Shabu Shabu provides a focused set of services centered around the shabu-shabu dining experience, designed for both in-restaurant enjoyment and at-home convenience:
Dine-In Shabu Shabu: The primary service allows guests to cook thinly sliced meats and fresh vegetables in simmering broths at their individual or shared hot pots directly at their table. This interactive dining style is central to the experience.
Takeout/Pickup (Shabu Bowls and Kits): For those who prefer to enjoy shabu-shabu or Japanese comfort food at home, Nabemono offers prepared "Shabu Bowls" (meat and veggies cooked in their kitchen) and "Shabu Kits" (raw ingredients for at-home cooking). Orders can typically be placed online for convenient pickup.
Delivery: Partnering with major third-party delivery platforms like Uber Eats and Grubhub, Nabemono Shabu Shabu extends its reach, allowing customers to have their Shabu Bowls, kits, and other menu items delivered directly to their homes or offices in the Alhambra area.
Happy Hour Specials: They offer specific happy hour promotions during designated times, providing discounts on both food items and drinks, making it an ideal time for a more affordable meal or quick bites.
A La Carte Ordering: Guests can customize their shabu-shabu experience by adding extra portions of various meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles to their meal.
Nabemono Shabu Shabu stands out with several key features that draw in locals and offer a unique dining proposition:
High-Quality Meats: They offer a range of premium, thinly sliced meats perfect for shabu-shabu, including:
USDA Prime Ribeye: A top-tier choice for a rich, tender shabu-shabu experience.
Boneless Short Rib: Known for its flavor and tenderness.
Prime Beef Belly: Often described as delicious and a good portion.
Australian Lamb: A flavorful alternative to beef.
Kurobuta Pork: Celebrated for its intense marbling and rich taste.
Jidori Chicken: Free-range and humanely raised, offering a lean option.
Miyazaki A5 Wagyu: For those seeking the ultimate premium experience.
"Never-Ending" Vegetables (for dine-in Shabu): A significant highlight mentioned by customers is the generous, often "never-ending" supply of fresh vegetables (excluding mushroom and tofu) that come with their shabu-shabu meals. This ensures a healthy and satisfying meal with plenty of greens.
Diverse Broth Options: While specific broth names are best confirmed on their current menu, shabu-shabu restaurants typically offer a selection of broths, such as:
Creamy Veg Broth: Mentioned in a review as a popular choice, likely a rich and flavorful vegetarian-friendly option.
Traditional Kombu Dashi: A classic seaweed-based broth, light and savory.
Spicy Broths: Often available for those who enjoy a kick.
Delicious Rice Bowls: Beyond shabu-shabu, their "Beef Belly Rice with Shoyu Egg" is highly praised as delicious with good portions, providing an excellent alternative for those not opting for hot pot.
Signature Housemade Sauces: Nabemono Shabu Shabu prides itself on its homemade dipping sauces, including their Goma (sesame) sauce and Yuzu Ponzu sauce, which are crafted with care and designed to complement the meats and vegetables.
Pleasant Atmosphere and Great Service: Customers consistently commend the inviting atmosphere and the quality of service, describing staff as friendly and attentive, contributing to a positive dining experience even during busy times.
Shabu Kits for Home: The option to purchase "Shabu Kits" allows customers to recreate the Nabemono experience at home, complete with sliced meats, veggies, broths, and sauces, perfect for a cozy night in.
Appetizers and Drinks: Their menu extends to include appetizers like Spicy Garlic Edamame, Panko Shrimp Pops, Chicken Karaage, and a selection of Japanese craft beers and sakes.

These specials often include discounted food items and drinks, making it an excellent time to visit and sample their offerings without breaking the bank. Given the specific mention in customer reviews, it’s a well-regarded opportunity for value.
Shabu Bowls: These pre-cooked bowls offer a complete meal solution at a fixed price, providing a convenient and potentially more affordable option than full shabu-shabu kits, especially for individual diners or quick lunches.
Shabu Kits: For at-home dining, the "Shabu Kits" are designed to be a comprehensive package, often providing better value than purchasing all components separately. These kits serve 2 people and include broth, meat, two veggie boxes, two carbs, and sauces.
Delivery Platform Deals: When ordering through third-party delivery services like Uber Eats, Grubhub, or Postmates, customers might find platform-specific promotions such as discounts on first orders, free delivery for members, or seasonal offers. Checking these apps regularly can yield additional savings.
Add-On Deals: The pricing structure for "add-on" items like extra veggies or specific cuts of meat might offer incremental value, especially for those looking to customize their portions.

Nabemono Shabu Shabu Reviews
Love this spot. Wife got the regular sized short rib shabu with creamy veg broth. Except for the mushroom and tofu the vege's are neverending! Wife liked it. I got the beef belly rice with shoyu egg. Delicious! Good portion, but with my walnut sized stomach I took half home. Will definitely be back for the happy hour specials, m-f 5-7 pm.
Apr 13, 2025 · Raymond ChaconI came here for dinner with my family and it was delicious! We ordered ribeye, lamb, and another beef option. It was busy around 7 PM and the waiting time was ~30 minutes long. I love the atmosphere and service was great😀
Dec 30, 2024 · JenFollowing a friend's recommendation, I went ahead and ordered a large portion of short ribs for both my girlfriend and me. While the meat was decent, it was really the sesame sauce and garlic that elevated the experience. I might opt for a less expensive cut on my next visit. However, while the food delivered on its promise, the service had a few hiccups. Upon entering, we were seated at the bar and kind of left to our own devices. Ordering through toast on my phone (which I personally dislike) was a bit impersonal for me. I'm more a fan of actual menus and some interaction with the staff.Luckily, our food and water arrived pretty quickly, but the staff's attention to our table was minimal until we'd finished our food. A staff member did eventually come around to check if we wanted more soup, which left me puzzled because why would we need more soup when we were out of meat and veggies? It wasn't until we were leaving that my friend mentioned we could actually get more veggies at no additional cost. I was surprised that no one mentioned this at the start or checked in during our meal, given how quickly we devoured those veggies.
Aug 12, 2023 · Tony YuOrdered and paid through phone, so was very convenient. I got the sweet sukiyaki with lamb. Next time will try the duck. The seasame sauce is bomb af.
Jul 24, 2023 · Tracy LeeWe were able to get a seat quickly when we went there after 8pm on a Saturday evening. It was quick to order on their app through QR code. Each meat dish comes with broth and a side of veggies and carb options (noodles or rice). We got 3 meat plates and 1 mixed seafood plates for 4 people and it was enough. Everything arrived pretty quickly. The quality of meats and seafood were great and fresh. We didn't mind paying a bit more for the quality. 😊😍😋
