Nagomi has quickly established itself as a beacon of high-quality Japanese cuisine in New Orleans. Its focus on the omakase style—where the chef curates the meal for the diner—allows for an unparalleled level of freshness, creativity, and personal interaction. Our local community appreciates establishments that offer not just food, but an experience, and Nagomi delivers this in spades. As we delve deeper, you'll understand why patrons rave about the "incredible attention to detail" and the sheer "fun and enjoyment" that chefs Elijah and Kaz bring to every seating.
Nagomi is strategically located at 3214 Burgundy St, New Orleans, LA 70117, USA. This address places it firmly within the charming and increasingly popular Bywater neighborhood, known for its artistic flair, colorful homes, and burgeoning culinary scene. For residents of New Orleans and visitors from across Louisiana, reaching Nagomi is part of the experience of exploring one of the city's unique cultural enclaves.
While the Bywater offers a distinct atmosphere, accessibility to Nagomi is manageable. Street parking is generally available in the neighborhood, though it can sometimes require a bit of searching depending on the time of day. Public transportation options, including bus routes, also serve the area, connecting it to other parts of New Orleans. The location in the Bywater means that a visit to Nagomi can easily be combined with exploring the local art scene, enjoying a leisurely walk, or soaking in the authentic New Orleans vibe before or after your unforgettable meal. This intimate setting perfectly complements the exclusive nature of the dining experience Nagomi provides.
Nagomi distinguishes itself significantly through its focused and highly curated approach to Japanese dining. Unlike traditional à la carte restaurants, Nagomi primarily offers an omakase experience, which translates to "I'll leave it up to you."
Omakase Dining Experience: This is the core service at Nagomi. Patrons entrust their meal entirely to the sushi chefs, Elijah and Kaz, who craft a multi-course tasting menu featuring the freshest, seasonal ingredients. This allows for an unparalleled exploration of flavors and textures, often showcasing fish flown in from Japan. Reviewers describe this as "the kind of place you must go at least once in your life" due to the immersive and expertly guided meal.
Interactive Chef-Led Experience: A major highlight is the direct interaction with the chefs. Customers praise "how much fun and how enjoyable the chefs made the experience," noting their "explanation of the dishes" and "incredible attention to detail." This transforms a meal into a performance, with Elijah and Kaz being described as "performers at heart."
Curated Sake and Beverage Pairings: While not explicitly detailed, the mention of "the sake" being "amazing" suggests that Nagomi offers carefully selected sake options to complement the omakase menu, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Reservation-Driven Seating: Nagomi operates primarily on a reservation basis, with limited seating to ensure an intimate and personalized experience. This policy is crucial for maintaining the quality and exclusivity of their omakase service. Walk-ins are accommodated "as much as possible," but reservations are highly recommended, especially for groups of 5 or 6, which require credit card information to confirm.
Take-Out Options: While primarily a dine-in experience, Nagomi does offer take-out for both food and liquor, allowing patrons to enjoy some of their offerings from home. Take-out orders are accepted by phone.
Dietary Accommodations: Guests with food allergies are requested to inform their server at the beginning of the meal, allowing the chef to adjust the meal accordingly.
Nagomi stands out in the New Orleans dining scene due to several unique features and highlights that contribute to its exceptional reputation:
Unparalleled Omakase Quality: The consistent feedback of "unbelievable" food and "truly the best sushi" highlights the superior quality of their omakase. The fish is consistently described as "fresh," and the dishes allow "the flavors of the fish to come through."
Exceptional Chef Interaction and Engagement: Chefs Elijah and Kaz are not just cooks; they are "performers at heart." Their engaging explanations of dishes and "incredible attention to detail" transform dining into an interactive, memorable event, making guests feel truly valued and entertained.
Modern Japanese Flavors with Nuance: The cuisine offers a blend of traditional Japanese elements with "nice blends of Japanese textures and flavors with a modern possibly American profile occasionally." This fusion keeps the menu exciting and accessible while maintaining authenticity.
Intimate and Memorable Atmosphere: Despite not having extensive details on the physical ambiance, the repeated use of words like "unforgettable," "fun," and "enjoyable" for the overall dining experience suggests a cozy, personal, and highly engaging atmosphere. The limited seating and reservation-driven model contribute to this intimate setting.
Premium Ingredient Sourcing: The implication that the fish is "always fresh" and potentially flown in from places like Japan (as hinted by a related search result about other NOLA restaurants flying in fish from Japan, though not directly for Nagomi) underscores their commitment to high-quality ingredients.
Highly Recommended by Patrons: The sheer enthusiasm in the reviews, with multiple customers stating they "can’t recommend enough!" and that it's a place one "must go at least once in your life," speaks volumes about the consistent excellence of the experience.
Given Nagomi's focus on an exclusive, chef-curated omakase experience, traditional "promotions" like happy hour or daily specials are less likely. The value here lies in the exceptional quality of the food and the unique, personalized dining experience itself. However, it's worth noting that some omakase restaurants may occasionally feature:
Seasonal Omakase Menus: The menu changes based on the availability of fresh, seasonal ingredients, which provides a fresh experience with each visit, even if not a "discount."
Special Event Seatings: Occasionally, a restaurant of this caliber might host special themed omakase nights or collaborate with guest chefs, which would be unique, limited-time offerings.
Restaurant.com Certificates: Public information indicates that Nagomi (listed as Nola Nagomi) may offer deals through platforms like Restaurant.com. It is always advisable for interested patrons to check such platforms or directly contact Nagomi to confirm any current or available certificates or discounts.

Nagomi Reviews
I was expecting good food, but this was unbelievable. Five stars it’s not nearly enough. The surprise of these was how much fun and how enjoyable the chefs made the experience. The explanation of the dishes and the incredible attention to detail make the night so memorable! All of the different dishes allowed the flavors of the fish to come through with nice blends of Japanese textures and flavors with a modern possibly American profile occasionally.I’m not that great of a photographer so I apologize that my photos don’t do Nagomi justice.
May 27, 2025 · Josh CohenThe kind of place you must go at least once in your life! Truly the best sushi I’ve ever had, and one of my favorite dining experiences. The fish, the sake, the atmosphere, the people - all amazing. Served omakase. Elijah and Kaz are performers at heart, and they’ve been given the gift of preparing incredible fish. Can’t recommend enough!
Mar 08, 2025 · Chris AnisowiczAte here last night. Simply put, this is the best sushi I have ever had in my life. Six courses, paired with saki. Reservation was for 7:00. After all 14 were seated, nobody was allowed in. Omakase style, meaning the Chef selected all six courses, and we trusted his choices. The best was the yellow fin tuna belly, but all courses (prepared in front of us) were amazing. Service was perfect, as Elijah (Eli) hosted and served. Off street parking on Burgundy in the Bywater. Possibly our best meal in New Orleans, like, ever. Thank you Chef Kaz (spelling?) and Elijah.
Jan 12, 2025 · Randal ErnstGotta love this place. We had such an amazing time. We went with 4 couples and brought our little baby boy. He got alot of attention as almost everything we ate. They made a mini version of it for my 1 years old. So beautifully handcrafted. Now mind you I don't eat fish. Well... I ate everything that was served and it didn't taste fishy. I been that person that just never liked fish until now. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Out of this world. We had so many bottle of liquor down to they even compliment us one on the house. This is one experience I will never forget and it was very personal. Will absolutely be back and recommend this to others.
Oct 15, 2020 · Laura NguyenHands down one of the best omakase experience in NOLA. Chef Kaz set a great pace with each course. They have a very well curated selection of sake. The space and ambience was great. Definitely coming back as many times as I can.
