Noriko Handroll Bar focuses on a specialized and intimate dining experience, primarily centered around expertly crafted handrolls, alongside a thoughtful selection of small plates and beverages.
- Handroll Sets and A La Carte Handrolls: The core offering at Noriko is their freshly made handrolls. Guests can choose from curated handroll sets, such as the "Classic" (Yellowtail, California, Spicy King Salmon), "Signature" (Yellowtail, King Salmon Avocado, California, Spicy Bluefin Tuna), or "Chef's" (Yellowtail, California, Bluefin Tuna Poke, Scallop Dynamite, Bluefin Tuna Toro), providing a structured tasting experience. Alternatively, diners can order individual handrolls from a wide a la carte selection, including classics like California, Spicy Bluefin Tuna, and premium options like Bluefin Tuna Toro, Wagyu Tataki, Uni, and the "Doshi Doshi" (Bluefin Tuna Toro, Uni, Caviar).
- Intimate Counter Seating: The restaurant features a unique counter-style seating arrangement, typically accommodating around 21 guests. This setup allows diners to sit directly in front of the chefs, providing a "front-row view" of the handroll-making action. This direct chef-to-guest interaction makes the experience feel personal and special.
- Creative Starters and Crudos: Beyond handrolls, Noriko offers a selection of innovative starters and crudos. Popular options include "Nori Chips and Dip" (edamame hummus, chili crunch, scallions), "Smoked Edamame," "Pork Belly," and various crudos like "Salmon Lox" and "Hamachi Poke." These provide excellent complements to the handrolls and expand the culinary journey.
- Craft Cocktails and Extensive Beverage Program: The bar at Noriko is highly praised for its "creative, balanced cocktails" such as the "Tokyo Story" and the "Puncha Matcha," the latter being so good that some patrons would "come back just for the Puncha Matcha." They also offer a curated selection of sake, Japanese whiskies, wines by the glass, and Japanese and local beers.
- Focus on Freshness and Quality: Noriko prides itself on using "unbelievably fresh, flavorful, and beautifully crafted" ingredients, with the fish often described as literally melting in the mouth. The attention to detail in each bite is "next level."
- Date Night & Small Gathering Ambiance: The space is designed to be "intimate and perfect for a date night," with soft lighting and a welcoming vibe that avoids feeling stuffy, even with mirrors creating a sense of spaciousness.

Noriko Handroll Bar, being a highly sought-after and intimate dining experience, typically focuses on the quality of its offerings and the unique experience rather than traditional discount-based promotions. However, there are aspects that contribute to value and special opportunities for locals in Illinois:
- Handroll Sets for Curated Experiences: While not a discount, the "Classic," "Signature," and "Chef's" handroll sets provide a curated tasting journey at a set price point (e.g., $20, $26, $38 respectively for the current menu), which can offer a more comprehensive experience than ordering individual rolls. This ensures diners get a well-rounded taste of Noriko's best.
- Premium A La Carte Options: The availability of high-end single handrolls like Bluefin Tuna Toro, Wagyu Tataki, Uni, and "Doshi Doshi" allows patrons to indulge in luxurious ingredients as an "add-on" to their experience, creating their own special occasion.
- Focus on Freshness and Quality as Value: Noriko's commitment to "unbelievably fresh" ingredients and "next level" craftsmanship in every handroll is its primary value proposition. For those who prioritize quality and authentic preparation, this inherent standard is a continuous "special offer."
- Happy Hour / Drink Specials (Potential): While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, handroll bars often introduce happy hour specials on drinks or specific handrolls during off-peak hours. It would be advisable for interested patrons to directly contact Noriko or check their official channels for any such current offerings.
- Walk-in Opportunities: Although reservations are often recommended for popular spots, the nature of a handroll bar can sometimes allow for walk-in seating, particularly for smaller parties or during less busy times. This flexibility can be a "special offer" for spontaneous diners.
Given Noriko Handroll Bar's growing popularity and intimate setting, securing a reservation in advance is generally recommended, especially for weekend evenings. For the most current information on pricing, menu additions, or any limited-time events, locals in Illinois should visit Noriko's official website (norikohandrollbar.com) or contact them directly via phone.

Noriko Handroll Bar Reviews
Boyfriend surprised me on a date night to Noriko and we had a great time! Food was excellent and I was surprised by how full we were by the end of it. Would definitely recommend the California. I also stole a bite of his scallop dynamite and that I’d 100% order again. Also, we had the Tokyo Story and Puncha Matcha. Both so good - I’d even come back just for the Puncha Matcha. The space was intimate and perfect for a date night. It wasn’t stuffy as it still felt quite large due to the mirrors. Would 100% recommend Noriko!
Apr 24, 2025 · Juliet LeeNoriko is hands down one of the best sushi spots in Chicago. Chef Billy is a true artist — every hand roll was unbelievably fresh, flavorful, and beautifully crafted. The rolls literally melted in my mouth, and the attention to detail in each bite was next level.Chef Billy made the experience feel personal and special, taking time to explain each roll and share his passion. The vibe is intimate, stylish, and welcoming. If you’re a sushi lover (or just love incredible food), do yourself a favor and visit Noriko. Chef Billy’s creations are unforgettable!
Apr 19, 2025 · Shelly RDelicious hand rolls! Some of the freshest and most unique sushi I’ve had. This is really high quality, top tier sushi. The service is wonderful, and it has a very exclusive under ground lounge vibe. You have to go thru a different restaurant upstairs to get to the back stairwell down to this place. Great lofi music, but the cocktails were weak and the lichee martini was overly sweet. I highly recommend this place for a wonderful unique meal and I’m already looking forward to coming back. Oh and the California roll has large chunk crab meat that is the most tasty California roll I’ve ever had.
Apr 26, 2025 · Brian BosakIncredible new spot! I had to bookone month in advance to get this reservation, so I was hoping it would be worth it. It was. The food was delicious—every hand roll had a perfect bite that was balanced and fresh and crisp! My favorites were the bluefin tuna toro, the spicy tuna, and the yellowtail roll. The appetizers were also spot on. The seaweed salad had a variety of different fresh seaweeds and was finished with a tangy sauce. We also enjoyed the smoked butter edamame with their house made furikake. It was both rich, salty, and sophisticated! My bf says he would “buy a bag” of the furikake. Anyway, this place was not only delicious, but the ambience was on point—intimate, welcoming, and modern. Chefs and servers were friendly and warm. S/o to Chef Michael!! We will be back and this is now one of my (and our) top places in Chicago!! ❤️
Mar 09, 2025 · Lucy GarbergFound my new favorite sushi spot - incredible quality, a fair price, and an approachable but beautiful atmosphere. Not only does the food taste amazing, but watching the rolls be created in front of you makes for a fun experience. Our server Lily was the perfect level of attentive.Highly recommend the chips & edamame hummus, California roll, and warm crab roll. But everything on the menu tasted great. Excited to come back and try more.
