Omakase by Kai truly shines through its distinctive features and culinary highlights, making it a top contender for the best sushi in Raleigh:
- Premium Omakase Experience: The restaurant offers an "omakase classic" experience, a multi-course meal entirely curated by the chef. This allows diners to embark on a culinary adventure featuring the freshest and most exquisite seasonal ingredients. While a "lot of food," it's described as an exciting and rewarding journey. Lunch Nigiri Omakase and Sashimi Omakase are priced at $42, while Dinner Bento options are around $52.
- Exquisitely Fresh Fish and Ingredients: A consistent theme in reviews is the unparalleled freshness of the fish. Terms like "super fresh," "fresh and beautiful," and "uni is all very fresh" are used repeatedly. This commitment to quality is evident in every bite.
- Decadent & Unique Nigiri and Hand Rolls: Patrons rave about the individual nigiri pieces and hand rolls. Specific highlights include the "toro appetizer (to die for)," "uni nigiri," and the "toro, uni, caviar 'taco'" which is described as "exquisite, very decadent and good." The "torched salmon belly nigiri with salmon roe, ordered off menu, is mind blowing," suggesting a willingness to accommodate special requests for high-quality items.
- Beautiful Presentation: The culinary artistry extends to the visual appeal, with customers noting that the "presentation was beautiful." This attention to detail elevates the entire dining experience.
- Excellent À La Carte Options: Beyond the omakase, the à la carte menu is highly praised. It features a wide array of nigiri (e.g., Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Fatty Tuna, Uni), sashimi, and various rolls (e.g., Rainbow Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Godzilla Roll, 15 Seaboard Roll). Special items like "A5 Wagyu, Uni, Caviar" and "Negi Toro, Uni, Caviar" are available for a truly luxurious experience.
- Diverse Menu Beyond Sushi: While sushi is a main focus, Omakase by Kai also offers other Japanese and Asian-inspired dishes. This includes various "Donburi" (rice bowls like Poke Tuna Don, Chirashi Don), "Noodles" (Kamo Nanban Soba, Nagasaki Champon Ramen), and "Bento Boxes" (Galbi Bento, Chicken Karaage Bento).
- Crispy Rice Appetizers: Unique appetizer options like "Crispy Rice w/ Hamachi Jalapeno" or "Spicy Tuna" are offered, providing a texturally interesting start to the meal.
---
Omakase by Kai, given its focus on premium quality and a refined dining experience, may not offer frequent, broad discount promotions like some other restaurants. However, their value often comes in the form of the quality and experience provided for the price point, especially compared to similar high-end sushi establishments. Their current offerings indicate structured pricing for their core experiences:
- Lunch Omakase Options: They offer more accessible pricing for their "Nigiri Omakase" and "Sashimi Omakase" during lunch hours (priced at $42), providing an excellent opportunity to experience high-quality chef's choice selections at a more budget-friendly rate than typical dinner omakase experiences found elsewhere.
- Omakase To-Go Sets: The "Omakase To-Go" options (e.g., Omakase A, B, and C) provide curated sushi sets that include chef's choice nigiri, rolls, and salad, starting from $39. These are designed for convenience while still offering a taste of their premium offerings.
- Bento Box Lunch Deals: Various "Lunch Bento" options are available at competitive prices (e.g., $28 for Galbi Bento or Miso Salmon Bento, $35 for Kai Sushi Bento), offering a comprehensive meal that includes an entree, often with rice and sides.
- Parking Validation: As a thoughtful amenity, Omakase by Kai provides 1-hour parking validation for specific parking lots (Lot B and Lot C across the street), which can be a valuable saving in a bustling urban area.

Omakase by Kai Reviews
One of the best sushi places in Raleigh, with excellent ambiance and great service. The hand rolls, nigiri and other rolls are the best. The omakase is nice but a la carte ordering is excellent too. The toro appetizer is to die for. The uni nigiri and toro, uni, caviar “taco” is exquisite, very decadent and good. The uni is all very fresh. The torched salmon belly nigiri with salmon roe, ordered off menu, is mind blowing. I want to become a regular here, this is the best sushi place in downtown Raleigh!!
Apr 27, 2025 · Alec ShobinWhat a fun place! We came in and immediately we were taken care of by Angie, who noticed even the smallest details. The fish was fresh and the presentation was beautiful. It was really fun to get the omakase classic but it was a lot of food! Glad we didn’t get an appetizer, but disappointed that it had to end.We had a great time! Come here if you want to have something different and want fresh Japanese-style seafood in the Raleigh.
May 24, 2025 · Lyssa DeLeonWent here Saturday Night. The service and Atmosphere is fantastic. We had the premium omakase, it's definitely big enough for two. Everything was tasty except for the hotpot, it was way too sweet for my taste even with the rice. Sushi is great, sashimi is excellent. Also had the Bento Box with Duck Soba special, highly recommended. Skip the Monkfish Karage.
May 12, 2025 · Danh PhanLeI went to Omakase for my birthday, and it was such a great experience. The place had a stylish yet cozy vibe, which made it really comfortable. The manager gave a demo on how to use the sake dispenser—he was super friendly and made the whole experience even better. The hardest part was choosing a sake cup because they were all so beautiful. I tried the Omakase Classic, and everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The sashimi, in particular, was so clean and delicate, with no off-taste at all. I’d definitely love to go back!
Mar 04, 2025 · Bongsang ChoTried out this new spot last night! Cool and vibrant atmosphere inside. The hamachi appetizer was tasty but the pieces were a little too big for a single bite! Get the spicy edamame. The rolls were tasty and fresh. The cocktail menu needs more creativity for a place like this. The service was all over the place! While friendly, at times we never got things we asked for and definitely could use more training. Hopefully it gets better.
