Omakase Room by Maaser focuses on delivering a specialized and high-quality Japanese dining experience, primarily centered around their signature omakase. Their services are designed to ensure an intimate and memorable culinary journey:
Omakase Dining Experience: The cornerstone of their offering is the multi-course omakase menu, with the 17-piece omakase being a notable highlight. This allows chefs to meticulously select and prepare each piece of sushi and sashimi, guiding diners through a carefully curated progression of flavors and textures. The focus is on quality ingredients and a thoughtful sequence of dishes.
Intimate Seating: Given the nature of omakase, the restaurant typically features a sushi counter and limited seating to ensure a personalized and focused experience for each diner. This allows for direct interaction with the chefs, enhancing the appreciation for the craft.
Reservations Recommended: Due to the exclusive and intimate nature of their dining setup, and to ensure optimal service, reservations are highly recommended and often essential for securing a spot. This ensures that each guest can enjoy an unrushed and attentive experience.
Beverage Pairings: While the wine selection may not be extensive, the available choices are carefully curated to complement the omakase menu, ensuring a harmonious dining experience. Guests can expect a selection of sake, wine, and possibly beer to enhance their meal.
Focus on Dine-In: The primary service is dine-in, as the omakase experience is best enjoyed fresh, directly from the chef. The ambiance and presentation are integral to the overall meal.
Omakase Room by Maaser stands out for several distinctive features that contribute to its highly regarded reputation among New York City's discerning diners:
Thoughtful Culinary Journey: A significant highlight, as noted by customers, is the "thought process that went into creating the journey from each Sushi piece to the next." Unlike some omakase experiences where distinctions between fish can be subtle, Maaser aims for a more "exciting journey where each piece kept true to the fish, but added subtle teas to change the textural or flavor experience." This ensures a dynamic and engaging tasting experience.
High-Quality and Distinctive Sushi: While some pieces are described as "melt-in-your-mouth good," the overall food quality is praised as "quite good." The emphasis is on fresh ingredients and nuanced preparation that highlights the inherent qualities of each fish while introducing subtle variations.
Attentive and Friendly Service: The service consistently receives high marks, described as "great, very attentive and friendly." This personalized attention enhances the overall dining experience, making guests feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout their meal.
Unrushed Dining Experience: In a city known for its fast pace, Omakase Room by Maaser offers a refreshing change by providing an "exceptional meal unrushed." This allows diners to fully savor each course and appreciate the culinary artistry without feeling hurried, which is a significant advantage for those seeking a truly immersive experience.
Intimate Setting: The restaurant's design likely focuses on a more intimate ambiance, creating a conducive environment for the focused, interactive nature of omakase. While the ambiance is described as "nothing special in terms of ambience" by one reviewer, this suggests the primary focus is on the food and service, which many omakase purists prefer.
Curated Beverage Selection: Despite not having a vast wine list, the available "few that they had complemented the meal quite well." This indicates a thoughtful selection designed to enhance the delicate flavors of the sushi, rather than overwhelming them.
Given the nature of a high-end omakase restaurant, Omakase Room by Maaser typically focuses on delivering a premium, fixed-price dining experience rather than offering frequent discounts or promotions in the traditional sense. The value is inherent in the quality of the ingredients, the skill of the chefs, and the curated culinary journey.
Set Omakase Menus: Their primary "offer" is the carefully structured 17-piece (or similar count) omakase menu. This set price includes a full, multi-course dining experience designed to showcase the best of seasonal seafood and chef's selections.
It is always advisable for New York locals to directly inquire with the restaurant or check their official booking platforms for any specific, limited-time offerings or special events, though these are generally less common for this type of establishment. The focus remains on the consistent delivery of an exceptional, albeit premium, dining experience.
For reservations, inquiries about their omakase menu, or any other information, New York locals can reach Omakase Room by Maaser using the following details:
Address: 321 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10014, USA
Phone: (212) 729-0636
Given the intimate setting and popularity, making reservations well in advance, possibly through an online booking system linked from their website or directly by phone, is strongly recommended to ensure availability for your desired dining experience.
Omakase Room by Maaser stands out as an exceptional choice for New York locals, particularly those who truly appreciate the art and nuance of an omakase dining experience. Its location in the charming West Village makes it easily accessible and a delightful destination for a special evening out. However, it's the culinary journey itself that makes it uniquely suitable for the discerning palates of New Yorkers.
As highlighted by a customer, the restaurant excels in creating "a lot of thought process that went into creating the journey from each Sushi piece to the next." This distinction, where "each piece kept true to the fish, but added subtle teas to change the textural or flavor experience," addresses a common critique of omakase experiences lacking variation. For locals who have experienced many omakase meals, this focus on a truly dynamic and evolving tasting progression is a significant draw, offering something genuinely exciting and memorable. The "unrushed" nature of the meal is another huge plus in a city where everything moves quickly, allowing for true enjoyment of the food and company.
Furthermore, the "great, very attentive and friendly" service ensures a comfortable and personalized experience, which adds immense value to a high-end meal. While the ambiance might not be the most elaborate, the focus remains squarely on the exceptional quality of the food and the skill of the chefs. For New Yorkers seeking an omakase experience that prioritizes culinary thoughtfulness, fresh ingredients, and an unhurried, attentive service, Omakase Room by Maaser offers a compelling and highly recommended choice in the heart of the city.

Omakase room by Maaser Reviews
We did 17 pieces omakase. The service is great, very attentive and friendly. As for the food: while some sushi pieces were melt-in-your-mouth good, others were just average. I’ll give it another try before finalizing my review.
Nov 06, 2024 · Zeynep GumusOverall, the food at this place was quite good. We got the 17 piece Omakase and one thing that really stood out is that there was a lot of thought process that went into creating the journey from each Sushi piece to the next. I have had Omakase before on many occasions and would say that very frequently there are not a lot of distinctions between the different fish. This meal, however, was quite the exciting journey where each piece kept true to the fish, but added subtle teas to change the textural or flavor experience, just enough to very pleasantly distinguish it from the previous piece. As far as the restaurant itself, it’s nothing special in terms of ambience, but a great place to get an exceptional meal unrushed. Not a lot of wine choices on the menu, but the few that they had complemented the meal quite well.
Jan 13, 2025 · Joel HofmanThis was by far one of the best food experiences my husband and I have ever been a part of. We booked a reservation in this small bar side only restaurant and expected to be seated with another 8 or so guests, however; we had the whole place to ourselves. Unfortunately, we had eaten a "snack" of pizza on the way to the restaurant so we had to opt for the smaller menu of 13 courses. Each plate was unlike the previous. I had no idea there was so much range in the taste and texture of fish. The preparations to the fish were so minimal but the flavour was out of this world. I can honestly say each piece of nigiri made my eyes bulge and my tummy content. So fresh and so true to the fish. Every piece was stunning and each fish was respected. The chef was so talented - precise in every movement he made. We will definitely be coming back here - I would simply make the flight to New York JUST for this spot. Thank you for a dining experience we will never forget. Hopefully we will be back in 2023!
Dec 03, 2022 · Inessa KingPositives: in terms of variety, they served a select few different pieces (though not necessarily good) from the pieces that you might typically see at other omakase places, such as the oyster, cured salmon, and crab. However, aside from a few select pieces, the quality of the fish and even other ingredients seemed really low to me, with some pieces torched to cover for it. I personally found the pieces somewhat poorly assembled, on the salty side, with some toppings to be poor flavor combinations. The servings spoons they served the pieces on were awkwardly large, not truly to be used as a spoon, and at times, I felt uncomfortably pressured by the chef to eat a certain way. To be honest, I'm confused by some of other reviews. I thought the omakase was much worse than the omakase that I've had the joy to try elsewhere in the city. The starting price for 12 pieces for $95. For a better omakase experience, I'd instead recommend going to the Sushi Lin West Village ($85) nearby, or Shinn West ($69) uptown.
