Omakase Sushi by Hiro specializes in providing an exquisite omakase dining experience, with a focus on quality and personalized service. Their offerings are tailored to deliver a memorable culinary journey.
- Dine-In Omakase: The primary service offered is their multi-course omakase tasting menu. Guests are invited to sit back and allow the chef to curate their meal, showcasing the freshest seasonal ingredients and the chef's masterful skills. There are multiple course options available to suit different preferences and appetites.
- Reservations: Omakase Sushi by Hiro highly recommends making reservations, preferably through platforms like Resy. This ensures guests can secure their preferred time slot, especially given the restaurant's popularity. They also accept reservations by phone or email at least 24 hours in advance, requiring basic contact and credit card information. A cancellation policy is in place, requiring 24 hours' notice to avoid a cancellation fee.
- Online Ordering: For those who wish to enjoy their delicious sushi at home, Omakase Sushi by Hiro offers online ordering through their website. This provides a convenient way to browse their menu and place an order for pickup.
- Takeout: While the primary focus is on the dine-in omakase experience, takeout options are available through their online ordering system, allowing customers to enjoy their high-quality sushi in the comfort of their own space.
Omakase Sushi by Hiro is distinguished by several key features and highlights that consistently impress its clientele and elevate it to a top-tier sushi destination in New York:
- Exceptional Freshness of Fish: This is arguably the most lauded aspect of Omakase Sushi by Hiro. Customers consistently highlight the "incredibly fresh" fish, noting that "each piece melted in my mouth." This commitment to sourcing and serving the freshest ingredients is fundamental to a superior omakase experience.
- Chef's Expertise and Experience: The chef at Hiro brings over 20 years of experience, including time at Michelin-starred sushi restaurants like Sushi Nakazawa. This extensive background ensures a masterful preparation of each piece, with a profound understanding of traditional techniques and modern artistry.
- Sophisticated Omakase Menus: The restaurant offers a variety of omakase menus, ranging from 11 to 15 courses, with different price points (e.g., 11 courses for $78, 13 courses for $98, and 15 courses for $118 per person). These tasting menus are described as "more sophisticated and less showy" than before, focusing on the essence of excellent sushi.
- Beautiful Presentation: Beyond taste, the "presentation was beautiful," indicating that each dish is crafted with an aesthetic appeal that enhances the overall dining experience. This visual artistry is a hallmark of high-quality Japanese cuisine.
- Well-Balanced Flavors: Reviewers specifically mention that the "flavors were well-balanced," highlighting the chef's skill in combining ingredients harmoniously to create a perfect symphony of tastes in every bite.
- Diverse and Rotating Omakase Selections: The menu mentions that 70-80% of their fish is sourced from Japan (primarily), with some from the United States, Scotland (King Salmon), and features ingredients like A+ Russian Kaluga Caviars. Specific pieces that may appear on the omakase include Hamachi/Kampachi, Madai/Hirame/Ankimo, Sawada/Saba, Gindara/Toothfish, Botan Ebi with Hokkaido Uni or Santa Barbara Uni, Hotate (Hokkaido Sea Scallop) with Charcoal Salt, Ikura, Scottish Salmon with Foie Gras, Akami, ChuToro, Otoro with Russe Caviars, A5 Wagyu Beef with Truffle Salt, and Unagi/Anago. Some pieces are noted to be "torched" for enhanced flavor.
- Option to Double the Course: For those with a larger appetite, guests have the option to double their omakase course at the beginning for an additional cost (e.g., 26 pieces for $138), receiving two pieces at a time. This flexibility caters to varying hunger levels.
- A La Carte Chef's Special Menu: In addition to the omakase, a la carte chef's specials are available, featuring unique items like Kinmedai, Surprise Hand Roll, Hokkaido Uni/Santa Barbara Uni, Shima-Aji, A5 Wagyu Beef & Uni Hand Roll, and the "Kiss Me" (Monaka + Toro + Ikura + Uni + Caviar).
While Omakase Sushi by Hiro's core offering is its meticulously crafted omakase experience, which is itself a premium service, they structure their menu to offer different price points and value based on the number of courses:
- Tiered Omakase Pricing: The availability of 11-course ($78), 13-course ($98), and 15-course ($118) omakase menus allows diners to choose an experience that fits their budget and appetite, providing clear value propositions for a high-quality sushi experience.
- "Double the Course" Option: For those with a heartier appetite, the option to double the omakase course for $138 (26 pieces) offers a way to enjoy more of their exceptional sushi at a set price, potentially making it a more cost-effective option than ordering many individual pieces A La Carte.
Given the nature of omakase, which focuses on the chef's selection of the freshest seasonal ingredients, traditional daily or weekly specials might not be a regular feature in the same way as at a more casual restaurant. However, the rotating selection of fish within the omakase ensures a continuous "new" experience. For any potential seasonal offerings or specific updates, New Yorkers can check their official website or contact them directly via phone. Reservations are highly recommended for the dine-in experience, especially considering their popularity.

Oct 22, 2024 · John NgBeen coming here since they first opened and it was fantastic right from the start. We recently returned after a long break and were extremely pleasantly surprised. The menu was completely new and even better than when we first started going. Much more sophisticated and less showy than before. We live good Omakase, and we're really happy with our latest visit to Hiro's. Highly recommend!
May 29, 2025 · chris serranoThis spot is truly unbelievable and I couldn’t recommend it more … the food is to die and so unique. The hospitality is great! I was served by Chef Hiro himself and it was such an honor. I loved the restaurant itself. It was so likely and had the cutest sushi counter. The food was so fresh and SO SO SO GOOD! They had the best and most unique nigiri combinations. I’ve never had albacore with grated fish liver, torched sweet shrimp w tobiko or squid topped with uni… OBSESSED W ALL! The chopped salmon and tomato was so original and I loved it. Overall, this place is truly to die and it’s now one of my favorite restaurants in NYC♥️
Oct 19, 2024 · Dani RaskinThis place totally lives up to the hype! Was fortunate enough to choose this restaurant for my birthday and the staff was as sweet as can be. Each dish was out of this world and the unique specialty pieces were well executed. The toro tartare, squid with uni, and the torched baby eel rocked my socks off!! I can’t wait to come back again. Thank you for the scrumptious sushi and the birthday wishes!
