For those in California seeking a truly unique and flavorful ramen experience, look no further than Ramen Hood. Nestled within the bustling atmosphere of Los Angeles's historic Grand Central Market, Ramen Hood stands out as a culinary gem, specializing in entirely plant-based ramen that even the most dedicated carnivores can appreciate. This isn't just a place for vegans; it's a destination for anyone who loves rich, savory broths and expertly crafted dishes. Ramen Hood has garnered a reputation for its innovative approach to traditional ramen, proving that plant-based ingredients can deliver all the depth, comfort, and umami you'd expect from a classic bowl.
The philosophy behind Ramen Hood is simple: create delicious, satisfying ramen without any animal products. They achieve this by meticulously developing their sunflower seed broth, a creamy and flavorful base that forms the heart of their signature dishes. This dedication to quality and flavor has made Ramen Hood a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike, offering a fresh perspective on a beloved culinary tradition right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Whether you're a long-time vegan, exploring plant-based options, or simply curious about a different kind of ramen, Ramen Hood offers a welcoming and delicious experience.
Ramen Hood is conveniently located at 317 S Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90013, USA, right within the iconic Grand Central Market. This prime downtown Los Angeles spot makes it easily accessible for anyone in the Greater Los Angeles area and beyond. Grand Central Market itself is a vibrant hub, drawing crowds for its diverse food stalls and lively atmosphere, making Ramen Hood a perfect stop during a day of exploring the city.
Getting to Ramen Hood is straightforward, whether you're traveling by car or public transport. For those driving, there are various parking garages in the vicinity, though parking in downtown LA can sometimes require a bit of patience. Ramen Hood distinguishes itself through several key features that make it a standout choice for ramen lovers in California, especially those seeking plant-based options.
100% Vegan Menu: This is perhaps their most defining feature. Every item on the menu, from the rich broths to the protein toppings and even the innovative "egg," is entirely plant-based. This makes it a go-to spot for vegans and those with dietary restrictions who often struggle to find authentic and satisfying ramen.
Signature Sunflower Seed Broth: Unlike traditional ramen broths that rely on pork or chicken, Ramen Hood's broth is a culinary triumph. Made by simmering kelp and shiitake mushrooms, then roasting sunflower seeds with white miso and pressure cooking the mixture, it achieves a creamy, rich, and deeply umami flavor that rivals its non-vegan counterparts.
Innovative Vegan "Egg": Their house-made vegan "egg" is a marvel of plant-based cuisine. With a soy milk "white" and a spherified "yolk" designed to pop, it adds an authentic visual and textural element to their ramen bowls, impressing even the most discerning diners.
Located in Grand Central Market: Being inside Grand Central Market offers a unique dining experience. The vibrant, communal atmosphere allows diners to enjoy their meal while soaking in the energy of one of Los Angeles's most iconic food destinations. It’s perfect for people-watching and experiencing the dynamic pulse of downtown LA.
Unique Small Plates: Beyond ramen, their small plates menu offers creative and delicious appetizers that showcase their plant-based prowess. The Avocado Toast on a crispy rice cake and the "Ahi Tuna" Crisps made from beets are prime examples of their innovative offerings.
Positive Customer Reviews: Customers frequently praise Ramen Hood for its flavorful, fresh ingredients and the satisfying depth of their broths. Reviews highlight the "classic but new" feel, noting the "flavorful, fresh, right balance of juicy/spicy, fresh veg, and deep satisfying umami." The setting within the market is also often mentioned as a "perfect lunchtime noodle bar perch for people watching."
As a popular establishment within Grand Central Market, Ramen Hood primarily focuses on delivering a consistent, high-quality dining experience. Specific ongoing, publicly advertised promotions or special offers are not consistently listed. However, diners often find value in their menu pricing, which offers a satisfying meal at a reasonable cost for the quality and unique offerings.
For the most up-to-date information on any potential daily specials, seasonal menu items, or limited-time offers, it's always a good idea to check Ramen Hood's official website or their social media channels. Ramen Hood Reviews
Had been here a few years ago and tried it again and it was pretty good! The avocado toast has a bit of a different twist (but it’s really good). I didn’t enjoy what I had and I would definitely go again and try another dish.(Wasn’t too busy, but did go on a Sunday around noon)
Dec 09, 2024 · Amanda HandsburClassic but New: flavorful, fresh, right balance of juicy/spicy, fresh veg, and deep satisfying umami. Pork cutlets are unexpected shape, but perfectly tender and clean. And the market location is just the perfect lunchtime noodle bar perch for people watching in LA’s vibrant heart.
Apr 10, 2025 · Ben OdellBeen to the Market dozens of times and always ignored this place. But not anymore.Best meatless ramen I've had to date.Tell your friends they have tots too. A match made in...LA.
Apr 17, 2025 · C.Q. The GreatThe vegan ramen here is always amazing. My favorite is the spicy ramen but the OG is also delicious. The broth is unbeatable! You can get a vegan egg as well, which lets you mimic more traditional ramen if that's your thing. I also really enjoy the avocado toast.99 percent of the time the service is fantastic. we've gone for years and it's nearly always been perfect. Lately there's been one person who's been less than friendly a time or two. It's not close to enough to make me not recommend it, I'll always go and suggest everyone run immediately! It can get busy, and if it does youight have to wait or not be able to sit at the bar. I only want to sit at the bar so if that's you, plan accordingly.
Mar 17, 2025 · j grinderThe Spicy "Pork" Katsu is 10/10! MUST TRY!The BROTH...OMG...CHEF'S KISS!!!! I drove 2 hours to eat this for the first time, without telling the staff because I wanted to give an honest first impression and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Even my super picky 3 year old LOVED the noodles & broth! Will go back soon!
