Since opening its doors in Torrance in July 2010, Ramen Yamadaya has become synonymous with quality and tradition. Their specialty lies in their Tonkotsu broth, meticulously prepared by boiling pork bones for over 20 hours to extract a rich, deep, and truly unforgettable flavor. This dedication to time-honored techniques, combined with a broad menu that offers much more than just ramen, creates a comforting and enticing dining atmosphere. Locals flock here for a taste of genuine Japanese comfort food, making it a beloved fixture in the California ramen scene.

- Extensive Menu: Beyond their signature Tonkotsu ramen, the menu is surprisingly broad, featuring various ramen styles (Shio, Shoyu, Miso, Spicy, Vegan, Tsukemen, Curry Ramen, etc.), a selection of appetizers, rice bowls, and even some sushi rolls. This extensive offering means there’s something for every palate.

Ramen Yamadaya’s appeal stems from several distinct features that make it a standout among ramen establishments in California:
- Signature Slow-Cooked Tonkotsu Broth: This is undoubtedly their crowning glory. The broth is simmered for over 20 hours, resulting in a rich, deeply flavorful, and incredibly satisfying pork bone broth that forms the heart of many of their ramen dishes. This dedication to traditional preparation sets them apart.
- Authentic Japanese Ambiance: Customers frequently praise the atmosphere, noting it feels like a genuine ramen shop in Japan. This comfortable and authentic vibe enhances the overall dining experience, transporting patrons across the Pacific.
- Wide Variety of Ramen: While Tonkotsu is their specialty, the menu boasts numerous ramen variations, including Tonkotsu Shio (salt-based), Tonkotsu Shoyu (soy sauce-based), Tonkotsu Spicy, and even a well-regarded Vegan Ramen made with homemade miso broth and spinach noodles. This variety ensures repeat visits to try new combinations.
- Delicious Side Dishes and Appetizers: Beyond ramen, their menu includes crowd-pleasers like Yamadaya Buns (steamed buns with braised pork), Gyoza, Tempura, Karaage Chicken, and various rice bowls. The "Yamadaya Bun" and "Tempura" are specifically mentioned as being "tasty" by customers.
- Thoughtful Gestures: Small touches, such as providing free matcha ice cream as a dessert, are remembered by customers and contribute to a feeling of hospitality and appreciation, making the dining experience even more pleasant.
- High Food Quality and Consistency: Patrons consistently report that the food is "tasty" and maintains "great consistency whenever you go," ensuring a reliable and enjoyable meal every time.
- Matcha Green Tea Available: For green tea lovers, the availability of matcha green tea (as opposed to just black tea) is a notable highlight.

These "Stay Home Specials" allow customers to choose multiple ramen bowls at a set price, making it a great option for families or groups. Ramen Yamadaya Reviews
First time here and we had the Tonkotsu Shio Ramen, Yamadaya Bun and Tempura. Everything was tasty and service was quick. This nice little ramen shop has the feel and comfort of a ramen shop in Japan. The menu is extensive, you could easily order more than you can eat, but you want to try everything. There is limited parking, but there is a small lot nearby.
Mar 22, 2025 · JuniormajrI've only been to 5 or fewer ramen places so far, and this place is the best out of all of them. The broth and noodles were SO GOOD with their homemade chili. I ordered the R1 and Volcano. Also ordered hot green tea and it was matcha green tea. We were also given matcha ice cream as a small dessert for free. Such a kind gesture. I wanna come back and try the rest of their menu. 🥰🥰🥰
May 16, 2025 · WSDIA383I had the miso ramen and it was the best flavor.! The Philadelphia roll was good but only 3 or 4 pieces. The spicy edamame was amazing!! Love this place!
Mar 18, 2025 · Jeannette avilesAuthentic Ramen with delicious meats and toppings. Broth is very well done 👏 flavorful and the service is great! While we were there they had a few of their regulars. The fact that they have a group of folks who keep coming back to them is a testament to the food taste and quality. I must say it's priced well for the amount of food you get!Only zonk I have is atmosphere. Not that it doesn't give you the Japanese vibe but the place is small and only fits like 20 people inside. Also, if you need a restroom you have to walk around the facility out to the back. But quality of food and taste is great! Definitely recommend if you are in Ramen mood. Oh and they have a decent amount of sushi for a great price! 🍣Overall 4.8/5Taste 4.9/5Quality 4.9/5Service 5/5Atmosphere 4.5/5
Jul 29, 2024 · Warren JThe serving sizes are huge! The food is DELICIOUS; cooked very professionally. The service is efficient and attentive. The seating area is small but if you bring a group of 7 there is a table you could all fit - just maybe call beforehand to see if there's a wait. We went around 7:30pm so there was no line, but I did see a waitlist outside - and menu stands - so I assume a wait can be normal. The interior is cute! First thing your met with is a big tree, in full blossom, coming out of the big table!
