Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi Introduce
For residents of Redwood City seeking a dynamic and engaging dining experience, much like using a "Doctor Near Me" service to find a specialist for a specific need, **Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi** offers a unique blend of culinary entertainment and traditional Japanese fare. Located at **2198 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, USA**, this restaurant provides a distinct alternative to conventional dining. For inquiries or reservations, you can reach them at **(650) 257-3520** or via mobile at **+1 650-257-3520**.
The atmosphere at Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi is consistently highlighted as a major positive, particularly for its teppanyaki dining experience. One reviewer enthusiastically described the atmosphere as "amazing," emphasizing that it was "very settled" and not as loud or packed as other well-known teppanyaki chains like Benihana. This suggests a more comfortable and less overwhelming environment, making it suitable for families, groups, or even a more relaxed couple's night out. The concept of teppanyaki inherently brings an element of entertainment, with chefs cooking food directly in front of diners on large griddles. The open seating arrangement mentioned by a customer indicates a welcoming and accessible approach to dining. This type of interactive setting provides a lively backdrop to the meal, where the sizzling sounds and visual spectacle of food preparation become part of the overall enjoyment. The ambiance is designed to facilitate a fun and engaging meal, appealing to those who seek an experience beyond just eating, similar to how a specialized medical facility might offer a more comfortable and modern environment to ease patient anxiety.
Service at Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi receives mixed, but largely positive, feedback. A significant highlight is the friendliness of the staff, with one customer stating that "everybody was super friendly." This positive interaction contributes greatly to the overall dining experience, making guests feel welcome and at ease. Another notable aspect of the service is the perceived efficiency; a customer mentioned they "did not have to wait long at all" and that the service was "a lot faster" compared to other teppanyaki restaurants. This quick turnaround time is a significant advantage, especially for those looking for a relatively swift yet entertaining meal.
The chefs are also praised for being "really good," indicating their skill not only in cooking but also in engaging with diners during the teppanyaki performance. The interactive nature of teppanyaki means that the chef is a central part of the service, entertaining guests with culinary flair and conversation. While one review points out a friendly and attentive waiter who was "around often," suggesting good table service, another review presents a contrasting experience regarding food quality, which can impact the overall perception of service. However, the consistent theme of friendly staff and efficient service remains a strong point for the restaurant, much like a well-run medical practice where the front office staff and nurses contribute significantly to a positive patient experience.
Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi offers two primary Japanese culinary experiences: **Teppanyaki** and **Sushi**. This dual offering caters to a wider audience, allowing guests to choose between the theatricality of a grilled meal prepared before their eyes or the delicate artistry of traditional sushi.
**Teppanyaki Grill:** This is clearly a signature feature. The chefs are noted for their skill, and the experience itself is a major draw. Teppanyaki typically involves a range of protein options (chicken, steak, shrimp, scallops, etc.) cooked with vegetables and fried rice. While one reviewer praised the food as "excellent," another had a starkly different experience, reporting "very burnt food" including fried rice and vegetables, and shrimp "cooked to rubber." They also mentioned the soup tasted "like from a mix" and the salad "from a bag." This stark contrast highlights a potential inconsistency in food preparation, which is crucial for diners to consider. The "same trick over and over" comment could imply a standardized show that doesn't always translate to consistently cooked food, or perhaps an isolated bad experience. However, when the food is cooked well, it's described as excellent.
**Sushi:** While not detailed in the provided reviews, the inclusion of "Sushi" in the restaurant's name indicates a dedicated sushi menu. This typically includes various nigiri, sashimi, and sushi rolls, offering a more traditional Japanese dining option for those who prefer it or as an accompaniment to the teppanyaki meal. The presence of a sushi bar would allow for a different type of interaction with sushi chefs.
The core feature of teppanyaki is the live cooking show, which contributes significantly to the entertainment value. The ability to watch one's meal being prepared, complete with chef tricks and interaction, is a unique selling point that appeals to many diners seeking an engaging outing. This interactive aspect makes it more than just a meal; it's an event, similar to how some specialized medical clinics offer unique patient education programs or state-of-the-art facilities as part of their service package.
The provided information does not detail any specific promotional offers, discounts, or loyalty programs for Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi. However, the positive word-of-mouth regarding the "amazing atmosphere," "super friendly" staff, and "faster service" acts as an inherent promotion. The comparison to Benihana, and the assertion that Sakura is "very settled" and "faster," serves as a strong indirect promotion for those who might find other teppanyaki chains too crowded or loud. Repeat business and positive recommendations are often the most effective forms of promotion for restaurants that prioritize customer experience. For a local establishment, the consistent delivery of a pleasant atmosphere and efficient service often builds a strong regular customer base.
For potential diners looking for special deals, it's always recommended to check the restaurant's official website or social media channels, or to call them directly. Many teppanyaki restaurants offer lunch specials, early bird discounts, or celebratory packages for birthdays and other events. Given its location in Redwood City, it might also participate in local dining promotions or offer special menus during holidays, similar to how a "Doctor Near Me" listing might highlight seasonal health screenings or special package deals.
For Redwood City residents considering a Japanese dining experience, **Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi** offers a compelling option, especially for those interested in the interactive and entertaining teppanyaki grill. Much like seeking a "Doctor Near Me" for a particular medical specialty, Sakura specializes in creating an engaging meal, highlighted by its friendly staff, skilled chefs, and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to some larger chains. While there is a noted inconsistency in food quality in one review, the overwhelming positive feedback regarding the atmosphere and service suggests that it delivers a generally enjoyable experience. If you're looking for a fun outing where your meal is prepared with flair right before your eyes, and you appreciate quick and friendly service, Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi is a solid choice. It's a place where the experience of dining can be as memorable as the food itself, making it a valuable addition to Redwood City's diverse culinary landscape.

Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi Reviews
Atmosphere was amazing, everybody was super friendly and the best thing about this visit. We did not have to wait long at all. It was open seating. The chefs are really good and the food was excellent. I’ve been to Benihana many times. It’s always pack, always loud, I found this place to be very settled and the service is a lot faster. I would definitely be returning back.
May 29, 2025 · Aaron PlacenciaSame trick over and over, serving very burnt food. Soup tasted like from a mix, salad from a bag. Fried rice, burnt. Vegetables, burnt. Shrimp cooked to rubber. Waiter, friendly and around often.
Jan 16, 2025 · Robert JonesSuch a fun place for dinner! Food and service are excellent and the chef got my picky kids to try so many new things. Only downside is it's very loud and pretty hot inside. Will definitely go back!
May 12, 2025 · Rachel Sackman AllenI would say this place is bland at best. My biggest gripe with this establishment is they will cheat you! The house will charge you 18% gratuity for parties 6+ which is fine. The server will add the 18% AFTER tax and not on your subtotal which is completely wrong. So much sure you guys tally your bill because they will pull a sneaky maneuver if you're not paying attention.
Mar 04, 2025 · MikeWe tried a little bit of everything and loved it! I would definitely recommend it to anyone, if you are not a sushi lover, you will find other great dishes, from steak to fish to seafood, you have a wide choice in hand! I am definitely more of a sushi lover, but we decided to try different dishes also and were not at all disappointed!
