4.0
Food was not bad, but I didn't give it 5 stars simply because other sushi locations seemed to have an small edge or zest in the flavor that seemed to not be present with this one particular experience. Though it's only my first time at this location.I will definitely be back because this location happens to be within walking distance of my current residence. That being said, this location meets all the expectations I would look for out of a local spot, plus the staff were attentive to my needs without smothering me, other customers were openly willing to talk with the Chefs at the bar and the Chefs in return were sociable and pleasant.I would definitely recommend this location as a good, fresh feeling spot with little to distract from the actual experience itself.I would easily bring a friend or family member here, but if I wanted to provide some kind of extra special sushi experience, I may choose to go to a different location. Honestly, I hope that doesn't sway eaters to go elsewhere because the difference between this location receiving 5 stars vs. 4 is almost negligible. If I were to accurately score it, i would consider this location a solid 4.9.I don't believe any standard or typical diner would be displeased.I asked for a recommendation for a sake and was provided what turned out to be a perfect pairing for my current needs. Which in this moment was a hard days work in a train yard, and I am completely satisfied.I ordered the hamachi cut roll, a salmon skin hand roll, fresh Wasabi, and a bottle of kurosawa cold sake.‐----Second trip a few weeks later.I ordered a basic hamachi cut roll, Japanese pickles a large Sapporo, and fresh Wasabi.I love that they have fresh Wasabi. The Japanese pickles are interesting they have very earthy notes, almost like a yerba mate. All in all, it's obvious this is a local location, and it's significantly busier than last time, but still I was able to walk in and sit at the bar with no problem.Honestly, it's just a nice low-key sushi bar. Like a local dive bar, but not grimy.I could come here in sweats or dressed too impress and I'd feel completely comfortable.Simple and Good feeling.Total damage on 2nd visit $15 and some change.---Third visitTonkotsu Ramen, Salmon cut roll, fresh Wasabi, and a large SapporoUnder 30 bucks minus the tip. Shared between 2 male diners, my son and myself.Ramen was good, not the best, but definitely worth it. - Survival Corps

  • Attentive and Sociable Staff/Chefs: The service is a standout feature. Staff are praised for being "attentive to my needs without smothering me." The chefs at the bar are described as "sociable and pleasant," even "openly willing to talk with the Chefs," creating an engaging and friendly dining experience.

  • Fresh Wasabi Available: A highly appreciated detail for sushi purists, the availability of fresh wasabi adds a layer of authenticity and quality to the experience, distinguishing it from places that only offer powdered alternatives.

Sea Salt Japanese Eatery offers a compelling value proposition through its combination of quality, variety, and an inviting atmosphere rather than relying on frequent, explicit promotions. While specific "Promotions or Special Offers" like daily deals or happy hour discounts aren't detailed in the provided reviews, the restaurant's pricing and offerings inherently provide value for its patrons in California.

Customers have noted that the overall cost of a meal is quite reasonable, especially considering the freshness and quality of the ingredients. For instance, a meal for two, including Tonkotsu Ramen, a Salmon cut roll, fresh Wasabi, and a large Sapporo, came in "Under 30 bucks minus the tip." This pricing is competitive for fresh sushi and ramen in the Huntington Beach area, where typical sushi rolls can range from $7-$15+ and ramen bowls often fall between $12-$18.

The availability of fresh wasabi, unique sake pairings suggested by attentive staff, and a menu that includes both raw and cooked options, plus rice-free rolls, all contribute to the perceived value. These features cater to a wide range of preferences and dietary needs, offering a more tailored experience without necessarily requiring a discounted price. The consistent quality and "simple and good feeling" ambiance also act as strong draws, encouraging repeat visits based on the overall positive experience rather than just a monetary incentive.
