Shun by Yama Sushi Reviews
Update:perhaps I’m a bit harsh, I would say the omakase was not worth the price. However, if they use the same quality of ingredients on their regular menu, then it should be good.Tried their omakase, which is only served few times a week and by reservation only.It came with 14 courses, started with a delicious filo wrapped jumbo shrimp, and spicy fried edamame, second course was chicken on the skewer then a plate of sashimi from different parts of the world. They were of great quality and very fresh. Then it was down hill all the way……We proceeded to have 10 nigiri one after another, fish (sashimi) on top of compacted rice. Of course the fish was fresh but by the time we finished, we felt only a stomach full of rice. There were no creativities nor varieties for the expensive omakase. We were expecting curated delicacies, but it was just a parade of nigiri.
May 19 · CacecoAlmost every roll we ate tasted the same because they put so many sauces in them. If you are looking for authentic sushi, definitely not this place. Not many choices of fish meat for special rolls. I saw crab meat/California style roll in almost every roll on the menu.
May 19 · Ella Be CoolI have to edit my review after a second visit. This time the Nigiri sushi was dry and the rolls that we ordered, which was the baked scallop roll and also a salmon roll which were both doused in mayo. The food quality here seems to be inconsistent after two visits. Not sure I’ll be going back. Also, I find the noise level in this restaurant to be extremely loud to the point of irritation. This is a very nice sushi restaurant in a developing area in McKinney. The quality of the Nigiri is excellent and definitely on par with some of the better Japanese restaurants you find in Dallas. The restaurant is beautiful inside. They have a glass fish chandelier that’s pretty cool. We tried a few rolls and they were all very good. My only negative feedback about the restaurant is that it is surprisingly large. The restaurant has open ceilings and it tends to be loud in the restaurant like you’re eating in a Luby’s cafeteria, which takes away from some of the ambience of the restaurant. Many times Japanese Izakaya on the smaller side, and the noise is contained. Service was very friendly and despite the noise level, we will definitely be going back and making this one of our regular places in the area to eat sushi. Next time we might try sitting at the sushi bar. Some of the sushi rolls are a bit creative. By the way, I do not recommend the Shun roll. I don’t think pesto works with truffles on a sushi roll.
March 22 · Sony AlexanderUpdate: I had to come back for dinner. My wife and I were just discussing that we couldn't remember the last time we ended a meal thinking "that was fantastic", this is it! It was all fantastic, but the BACK9DALLAS may be the best roll I've had!I recently visited Shun by Yama Sushi for lunch, and I can confidently say it’s a fantastic new addition to the sushi scene! The atmosphere is modern and inviting, with sleek decor and comfortable seating that made for a relaxing midday meal. I opted for their sushi lunch special, and it exceeded my expectations. The plate featured a beautiful assortment of nigiri (salmon, tuna, and others) and maki rolls, all incredibly fresh and flavorful. The presentation, as you can see in the photo I took, was impeccable—served on a stylish slate platter with ginger, wasabi, and a side of soy sauce. The fish melted in my mouth, and the rice was perfectly seasoned. What really stood out was the great value for the price. The lunch special was reasonably priced, making it an excellent deal for the quality and quantity of sushi I received. The service was prompt and friendly, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. If you’re looking for high-quality sushi, this is definitely a spot to hit!
March 09 · Brad MillerHands down the best sushi place ever! The decor of the restaurant is very modern, the staff is super friendly, the food is beyond amazing. Nothing but GREAT words to say about this place! 100% recommend going here over and over again.
