When considering a dining experience, the environment plays a significant role. Based on customer feedback, one of the initial impressions upon entering Sushi Aji Lafayette has been the noticeable scent of air fresheners. While this might be a point of consideration for some, it's an element of the overall atmosphere. The establishment aims to provide a setting for diners, and the overall ambiance contributes to the dining experience. Typically, sushi restaurants strive for a clean, minimalist, and often serene environment, but specific details regarding the decor, seating arrangements, or overall aesthetic are not widely available beyond the mention of air fresheners.
Service is often a highlight or a detractor for any restaurant. At Sushi Aji Lafayette, initial customer experiences suggest that patrons are generally seated, greeted, and served with a reasonable level of speed and kindness. Prompt and courteous service is a significant factor in customer satisfaction, and it appears the staff at Sushi Aji Lafayette aims to provide this. However, it's worth noting that even with efficient service, other aspects of the dining experience can influence overall perceptions.
The core offering of Sushi Aji Lafayette, as its name suggests, is sushi. When evaluating the features of the cuisine, it's important to consider both the positive and negative feedback from customers to form a balanced view. One consistent piece of feedback regarding the fish used in their sushi is that it appears to be of high quality and free from odor. This is a crucial aspect for any sushi establishment, as the freshness and quality of the fish are paramount to the sushi experience. High-quality fish is foundational to good sushi, and this seems to be a strong point for Sushi Aji Lafayette.
However, some customer experiences have highlighted specific concerns regarding other elements of the dishes. For instance, the miso soup has been described as extremely salty, and there have been isolated incidents of cleanliness issues with utensils, such as spoons appearing encrusted with dishwashing powder. While such issues can be quickly rectified by attentive staff, as was reported, they can impact the initial impression of a meal.
Regarding sushi rolls, feedback has been mixed. Some patrons have found certain rolls, like the tempura shrimp roll, to be soggy in parts. There have also been comments indicating that the rolls sometimes arrive closer to room temperature rather than the desired cooler temperature. A significant point of contention for some customers has been the rice used in the sushi. It has been described as shriveled and old, with an unpleasant texture, which can significantly detract from the overall sushi experience, as rice is a fundamental component of well-prepared sushi.
Furthermore, some reviews suggest that the sushi rolls have been found to be almost tasteless and not particularly delicious, with some guests reporting general disappointment. There have also been mentions that the rolls might seem small for their price point, leading to questions about value for money. Despite these criticisms, the fact that the fish itself is noted to be of good quality remains a positive aspect of their offerings.
While specific ongoing promotional information for Sushi Aji Lafayette is not explicitly detailed, the restaurant's operational practices offer some insight into their customer-facing approach. For instance, in instances of takeout or pickup orders, the staff has been commended for their communication, keeping customers well-informed about pickup times. This level of communication and attentiveness to order fulfillment is a positive aspect of their service, suggesting an effort to manage customer expectations and provide a smooth experience for those opting for non-dine-in services.
The general tone of the staff, as described by some customers, is positive, with "nice staff" being a recurring comment. This indicates a commitment to friendly customer interaction, which can significantly enhance the overall experience, even when there are concerns about food quality. The willingness of the staff to quickly address issues, such as a dirty utensil, also points to a responsive service approach.
For local users in Lafayette, CO, utilizing a "Doctor Near Me" style platform to discover services, Sushi Aji Lafayette is a Japanese restaurant that presents a mixed bag of experiences based on available customer reviews. On the positive side, the fish quality is generally regarded as high, and the service staff is noted for being kind, quick, and communicative, especially concerning pickup orders. These are strong points for any local eatery aiming to serve its community.
However, potential diners should be aware of some of the reported inconsistencies in food preparation, such as issues with miso soup, tempura texture, and particularly the sushi rice. These factors have led some customers to express disappointment with the overall taste and value for money, despite the positive aspects of the fish quality and service. As with any local business, individual experiences can vary, and what might be a minor issue for one diner could be a significant detractor for another. Sushi Aji Lafayette strives to be a local option for Japanese cuisine, and its continued operation in Lafayette suggests a customer base that finds value in its offerings.

Sushi Aji Lafayette Reviews
Don’t let the good reviews fool you, this is a slightly below average sushi shop. Stopped in on a Friday night and the first thing I noticed was the smell of air fresheners. We were seated, greeted, and served quickly and kindly, unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The miso soup was extremely salty and the spoon came out encrusted in dishwashing powder (this was quickly fixed by the server!), the tempura shrimp roll was soggy in parts, and the rolls all seemed to be closer to room temperature than not. I’d like to point out that despite this, the fish appeared to be high quality with no odor.My biggest gripe, though, was the rice. It was shriveled and old and had a really unpleasant texture.I can’t recommend this place to the sushi lover.
Feb 01, 2025 · Kayla ClaireThis will be my first and last visit to Sushi Aji. Their Sushi rolls were almost tasteless, none were “delicious”, and the rolls seem small for the price. None of our guests enjoyed the sushi. Very disappointing.I wish I could support a local business, but unfortunately the food quality is not worth spending the money for it.They were very good at keeping me informed as to pick up time. Staff was nice.
Apr 15, 2025 · nanette barrettThe sushi here is truly delicious, I usually go for the traditional rolls, but the special rolls I've tried have been inventive and yummy. My husband is vegan and Sushi Aji has the best and largest selection of vegan rolls we've ever seen. The staff is super friendly and efficient. The restaurant is low-key and I find it very relaxing. I've also had a couple of non -Sushi meals, the tonkatsu was delicious and their Udon was lovely.
May 08, 2025 · Tina EnglandThis place has way too many undeserved good reviews, I’m afraid people don’t know what good sushi is. I went for lunch on a Friday and there was only one other group inside eating. The restaurant is very small, stuffy and not very clean, it also stinks of glade plug ins which is unappetizing. I ordered the Maki Lunch which comes with a miso soup and two rolls, the miso soup was extremely salty. I got a spicy tuna roll and spicy yellowtail roll and the fish was closer to room temp/warm, than it was fresh and cold which immediately put me off. The price was fair and now I understand why. The service was good, nothing to complain about there. But I’m sorry I would not come back here and do not recommend to any sushi lover.
Nov 01, 2024 · Jenelle Escobar-LopezWe have been here a couple of times and both times we had a great experience. The place is small but cute and very clean. The service is good and the staff is really nice and attentive, for example the moment we told them where the kids were going to seat, they immediately put chopstick helpers on their plates without us having to ask like it happens in every other Japanese restaurant. The bento boxes portions are very generous and include more items than most bento boxes we’ve tried before. The sushi rolls are really nice and flavorful. If you like sashimi, I recommend the white tuna with truffle special, it’s soooo good!
