- Conveyor Belt Sushi (Kaiten Sushi): The signature experience, featuring a wide array of sushi plates (maki rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and even desserts) moving along a conveyor belt, allowing diners to pick their desired items as they pass by. Plates are typically color-coded for pricing.
- Extensive Maki Roll Selection: Many choices of maki (rolled sushi) including popular options like California, Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Vegas Roll (deep-fried cream cheese, avocado, crab salad, shrimp), Oregon Roll (salmon, crab salad, cucumber, avocado), Philadelphia Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Lion King Roll, and creative house rolls like Yoko Roll, Dragon Roll, Caterpillar Roll, Dinosaur Roll, and Chiyo Roll.

- Non-Sushi Options: For those who prefer cooked dishes or other Japanese fare, the menu includes appetizers and entrees not on the conveyor belt, such as:

- Takeout and Delivery: Orders can be placed for pick-up, and delivery is available through third-party platforms like DoorDash and Grubhub, offering convenience for enjoying Sushi Chiyo at home.
Sushi Chiyo's popularity among Oregon locals stems from its unique blend of entertainment, freshness, and welcoming atmosphere. Here are the key features and highlights that consistently draw customers back:
- The Sushi Train Conveyor Belt: This is arguably the biggest highlight. It provides a "lot of fun just watching my kids pick whatever they'd like and chow it down with a smile." The interactive element of selecting plates as they pass by creates a dynamic and engaging dining experience, especially for families and children.

- Friendly and Quick Staff: The staff is noted for being "quick and fine about ordering any sushi not on the sushi train or straight from the non-sushi options on the menu." This attentiveness ensures a smooth dining experience, whether you're grabbing from the belt or placing a custom order.
- Fun and Welcoming Environment: Described as a "friendly environment" and a "fun place," making it suitable for various occasions, including birthdays and happy hour gatherings.
- Kid-Friendly: The conveyor belt system is particularly appealing to children, making it an excellent choice for family outings where kids can be entertained while also enjoying their food.
- Affordable (implied by happy hour appeal): While specific pricing isn't detailed in these reviews, the mention of it being a "fun place for a birthday or happy hour" suggests that it offers good value, a common characteristic of conveyor belt sushi establishments. Online menus confirm reasonable pricing per plate, often color-coded.
- Diverse Menu Beyond Sushi: Offering a range of appetizers, noodle dishes, and hibachi options ensures that even non-sushi eaters in a party can find something delicious to enjoy.
Conveyor belt sushi restaurants often have ongoing promotions, especially for happy hour, which encourages higher turnover and a wider variety of plates being consumed. While the provided reviews mention "happy hour," specific details vary, so it's always best to confirm directly. For Oregon residents interested in special offers at Sushi Chiyo:
- Inquire about their happy hour times and specific deals. Past information suggests they might have happy hour deals with discounted plates (e.g., $1.50 plates). Some online discussions suggest a happy hour from 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM on weekdays at their Portland location.
- Check their official website or social media channels (if available) for any daily specials, limited-time offerings, or family deals.
- Many sushi train restaurants use plate color coding for different price tiers; understanding this system can help you manage your budget and spot potential value.

Sushi Chiyo Reviews
We came here for my daughter’s bday and she had a great time. There’s so many choices of maki and nigiri sushi along with lots of desserts on the sushi train conveyor belt. It’s a lot of fun just watching my kids pick whatever they’d like and chow it down with a smile. The staff is quick and fine about ordering any sushi not on the sushi train or straight from the non-sushi options on the menu. It’s a fun place for a birthday or happy hour!
Feb 04, 2025 · Dylan MagierekFresh food, love the sweet shrimp sushi. Friendly environment, good place for sushi lovers.
Apr 26, 2025 · athena zhuFor a cheap sushi train, it's the best. I barely use the train, I order sashimi and you can get nine big pieces of yellowtail, tuna and salmon for under $15. Then I get a bowl of fresh rice to go with it
Apr 26, 2025 · zach domerSpicy mayo on just about everything. Smoked salmon roll is SPICY. I have blood blisters in my mouth a day later. If you have a nightshade or pepper allergy, this is not the sushi place for you. Hot dessert was cold and soggy. Frozen cream puff balls were just that.... still completely frozen. No refill on our water or hot tea. 2.5 stars
Mar 13, 2025 · Robin SampsonGood sushi chain place. Sat quickly and service was good. We did go at peak hours so it was a bit slow and it was hard to get ahold of anyone for specific orders but likely a non issue in non busy hours. Sushi was good and prices are fine. Not cheap though not expensive. Really a no frills sushi roundabout with no glaring flaws but won’t knock your socks off. If you need to get in and out quick then this place is ideal.
