Sushi Lab Rooftop stands out with several distinctive features and highlights that create a truly memorable dining experience for New Yorkers:
- Unique Rooftop Ambiance: The restaurant's setting on a rooftop, designed like an "alluring Japanese garden," is a major draw. It offers a serene urban oasis above the bustling Times Square, complete with heat lamps for year-round comfort, creating a distinct and inviting atmosphere.
- Innovative and Creative Sushi: Sushi Lab is known for its "unique creations on traditional sushi" and its "chemistry of flavors." This involves experimental approaches to nigiri, often accompanied by elevated sauces, unique toppings (like shaved truffles or caviar), and interesting neta combinations (e.g., Hotate with shiitake mushrooms and shaved truffles, or Uni with warm, crispy Shiso Leaf).
- Specialization in Omakase: The focus on omakase allows diners to embark on a "journey of the senses," with chefs curating a multi-course tasting menu using fresh, seasonal ingredients. This provides a personalized and often surprising culinary experience.
- High-Quality Ingredients: Customers consistently praise the deliciousness of the food, noting that "every specialty roll we tried was packed with exceptional flavors that enticed our taste buds." The freshness of the fish and the thoughtful combinations of ingredients are frequently highlighted.
- Exceptional Service: The staff at Sushi Lab Rooftop receives high marks for being "top tier" and providing "fantastic" service. This attentive and professional service enhances the overall dining experience significantly.
- Must-Try Appetizers: Specific appetizers like the "Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice" and the "Salmon Belly and Poached Asian Pear" are repeatedly recommended by patrons for their deliciousness and unique flavor profiles.
- Dessert Highlight: While some desserts like the Matcha Crème Brûlée have received mixed reviews, the overall dessert offerings aim to provide a creative end to the meal.
- Intimate Dining Experience: The setting is often described as intimate, with an 8-seat sushi bar for a personalized experience, alongside additional table seating in the Chemistry Room and on the rooftop.
Sushi Lab Rooftop, being a higher-end sushi establishment in a prime location, tends to focus on the value of its unique dining experience and quality ingredients rather than frequent, broad discount promotions. Their omakase offerings are often structured to provide a curated experience at a set price point.
However, New Yorkers can consider the following aspects as potential "offers" or value propositions:
- Omakase Tiers: Sushi Lab offers different omakase tiers (e.g., a 10-nigiri omakase around $50, and a 15-course "Lab Experiment" around $85, or a 13-course "Chemistry Room" omakase for $100). These provide structured options that can be seen as comprehensive experiences for their price, especially compared to higher-priced omakase venues in NYC.
- Lunch Specials (Potential): While not explicitly detailed, some upscale Japanese restaurants in NYC offer more accessible lunch omakase or bento box specials during midday hours. It is advisable to check their current menu or inquire directly.
- Third-Party Booking Platform Perks: Booking through platforms like Resy might occasionally offer loyalty points or special dining events, though direct discounts are less common for premium spots.
- Group Dining Packages: For private events and corporate parties, Sushi Lab offers bespoke dining experiences, which might include custom menus and pricing packages that offer value for larger groups.

Sushi Lab Rooftop Reviews
We had a lovely evening at the lab. The sushi rolls and appetizers were fantastic. The service was fantastic. The atmosphere was fantastic. However, the reason I cannot give five stars is due to the matcha crème brûlée. Looks can be deceiving (picture below). The consistency was similar to curdled milk.In conclusion, we would highly recommend dining at the lab (except for the matcha crème brûlée).
Apr 26, 2025 · Seamus WalshReally enjoyed my experience at sushi lab rooftop! The service was top tier. The food was delicious! The spicy tuna crispy rice and the salmon belly and poached Asian pear appetizers are a must try! Every specialty roll we tried was packed with exceptional flavors that enticed our taste buds. The rooftop also had heat lamps that keep you warm during the winter months. I can’t wait to come back and try more rolls.
Dec 24, 2024 · Aisha ArroyoAn outstanding gem right off Broadway near times square, this cozy rooftop offers high-end, fresh sushi... some of their fish is flown in from Japan. Get the omakase for sure! It is worth every penny. The meal will set you back $100 or more per person but it us NYC and for the quality of fish and flavor combinations, it is well worth it!The gold digger was a great add-on to the lab experiment omakase!

May 23, 2025 · Lauren SSushi Lab Rooftop is such a cool spot. The vibe up there is amazing — great for a chill night out or a fun date. The sushi was super fresh and really well put together. Everything we tried looked and tasted great. But the real winner? The matcha crème brûlée. I wasn’t expecting much, but it completely blew me away. Creamy, not too sweet, with that perfect crispy top and just the right amount of matcha flavor. So good. The staff was really friendly and the service was solid. Definitely planning to come back!
