Sushi Mazi is conveniently located at 2126 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202, USA. This address places it in the vibrant and bustling Division Street corridor of Southeast Portland, a neighborhood known for its diverse culinary scene and unique local businesses. While Division Street can be lively, especially during peak hours, its central location makes Sushi Mazi relatively accessible from various parts of Portland. It's important to note that parking in this popular area can sometimes be a challenge, particularly on busy evenings like Fridays and Saturdays. Therefore, planning your visit with potential parking considerations in mind, or utilizing ride-sharing services, might be beneficial. However, the prime location means it's often within easy reach via public transit options that service SE Division Street. The cozy atmosphere inside provides a pleasant respite from the bustling street outside, offering an intimate dining experience once you arrive.
Sushi Mazi is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and enjoyable dining experience through a variety of services tailored to its customers' preferences.
- Dine-In Service: The restaurant offers a "cozy restaurant" atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed meal. While it's noted to be a smaller space, the intimate setting enhances the dining experience.
- Reservations: Given its popularity, especially on Friday and Saturday peak hours, making a reservation is highly recommended to secure your table and minimize wait times. This ensures a smooth and planned dining experience.
- Bar Seating: For a more interactive and often more personalized experience, seating at the sushi bar is highly recommended by frequent patrons. This allows direct engagement with the chefs, especially for exploring daily specials.
- Takeout Service: For those who prefer to enjoy Sushi Mazi's tremendous sushi at home, takeout options are available, allowing you to easily pick up your order.
- Delivery Services: Sushi Mazi partners with popular third-party delivery platforms, such as DoorDash, making it convenient to have high-quality sushi delivered directly to your doorstep within Portland.
- Extensive Menu: The menu features a wide array of options, including various sushi rolls (like the popular Volcano and Yellow Tail Torch rolls), nigiri (especially their acclaimed salmon variations), sashimi, and unique appetizers such as "mushroom cigars."
- Vegan Options: Sushi Mazi also caters to plant-based diets, offering vegan vegetable sushi rolls, edamame, seaweed salad, and tempura vegetables. They are attentive to ensuring vegan orders are prepared correctly.
Sushi Mazi stands out in Portland's vibrant culinary scene with several distinctive features and highlights that contribute to its glowing reputation.
- Exceptional Quality Sushi and Freshness: The most consistent praise for Sushi Mazi revolves around the "tremendous sushi" and its high quality. Customers frequently emphasize the freshness of the fish, particularly the "best Japanese selection of sushi (especially Salmon) that I’ve had dollar for dollar." This commitment to fresh, top-tier ingredients ensures a superior dining experience.
- Innovative and Delicious Specials: Beyond the standard menu, Sushi Mazi truly shines with its specials. The "aged Salmon with the variations offered" is a significant highlight, described as "so so good" and a must-try. Unique and flavorful rolls like the "Volcano roll" (a "spicy, baked" winner) and the "Yellow Tail Torch roll" also receive high accolades, demonstrating creative culinary execution.
- Unique Appetizers: Even for non-enthusiasts, the "mushroom cigars" are noted as "delicious," showcasing the restaurant's ability to craft appealing dishes across the board.
- Friendly, Attentive, and Kind Staff: The service at Sushi Mazi is consistently described as "friendly, attentive, kind," and contributing to a "fun and memorable experience." The staff, led by Mazi himself, goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcomed and valued.
- Value for Quality: Despite offering high-quality sushi, the pricing is considered fair and reasonable. Customers explicitly state that for $50 for two rolls and an appetizer, "that’s a fair price for high quality sushi. You’d pay more in Seattle or San Francisco and not get better quality." This excellent value proposition is a significant draw.
- Bar Seating Experience: Many recommend sitting at the bar to "order all the specials." This interactive seating option allows diners to engage directly with the chefs and discover the freshest and most unique offerings of the day.
- Accommodating Dietary Needs: Sushi Mazi offers notable vegan options, including vegetable sushi rolls, and the staff are knowledgeable about ingredients, even advising on sauces that may contain mayonnaise to ensure a truly vegan meal.
While specific, ongoing promotions for Sushi Mazi are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, the restaurant's reputation for offering "high quality sushi" at a "fair price" already acts as a significant value proposition. However, like many established Portland sushi restaurants, Sushi Mazi may offer various specials that are best discovered by directly engaging with the restaurant.
- Daily Specials at the Bar: As recommended by a customer, sitting at the bar and "ordering all the specials" suggests that Sushi Mazi frequently features unique, fresh, and potentially seasonal items that are not always on the main menu. These specials are often the freshest catches or creative new rolls.
- Seasonal Offerings: Given their emphasis on "aged Salmon with the variations offered," it's likely they incorporate seasonal fish and ingredients into their menu, providing limited-time culinary experiences.
To get the most up-to-date information on any current promotions, seasonal specials, or chef's recommendations, locals are highly encouraged to visit Sushi Mazi's official website (if available), check their social media channels, or, ideally, call the restaurant directly or speak with the staff when dining in. This direct approach will give you the best insight into what unique offerings are available during your visit.

Sushi Mazi Reviews
Cozy restaurant and tremendous sushi! We had the Volcano roll and the yellow Tail Torch roll and they were both so good, with the spicy, baked Volcano roll as the winner. The mushroom cigars were delicious and I’m definitely not a mushroom enthusiast.Definitely make a reservation for Friday and Saturday for peak hours. Parking can be a challenge as well. This was $50 for the two rolls + appetizer and that’s a fair price for high quality sushi. You’d pay more in Seattle or San Francisco and not get better quality.
March 02 · David BarwickJust wow! Mazi and his team are friendly, attentive, kind and provided a fun and memorable experience. This is hands down the best Japanese selection of sushi (especially Salmon) that I’ve had dollar for dollar. Recommend sitting at the bar and ordering all the specials - yes, all of them. The aged Salmon with the variations offered are all so so good. We did order one roll, but honestly did not need to.
January 04 · Dirk ReckermanSushi Mazi’s high end environment and kindness created a beautiful experience for me! The chefs and hosts are so generous. Plus the food is top notch! The Volcano roll has a nice spice sizzle to it. Highly recommend.
April 02 · Kailey LohrmanMazi sushi is my new favorite spot in town! With over 30 years of sushi mastery, Mazi is serving up some of the best cuts of fish in town, hands down! Could not have had a better experience at a sushi bar, must go!
April 28 · Justin NanceI’ve been visiting Sushi Mazi for over 5 years now and the consistent quality, incredible fish and sake selection, attention to detail and lovely caring team has brought my partner and I back time and time again. The rolls are all great (get the salmon skin roll you won’t regret it) but the nigiri and sashimi are where it’s at! Perfect fish with delightful accents and Marc nails the fish to rice ratio on the nigiri every time.Sake selection is also on point! There are always new bottles to try and varieties to fit every preference or pallet.Chef Marc and his family have created a unique local gem. Sushi is my favorite food and Sushi Mazi is my favorite place in Portland to get it.
