Sushi Miyagi

10600 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072, USA

4.0
Have known about this place for a while but didn’t visit until now, and I regret not coming here sooner. The place is small and a bit old, but clean and giving vintage vibe. I was waiting for about 30min for my food to come, not too long but also not too fast but because the place is owned and operated by only an old couple, it’s understandable. However, the wait is definitely worthy since the sushi is very delicious (and cheap!). The old lady is very nice and friendly, and even though she’s the only waitress, she gave excellent services. - TuongVy Pham

Bellaire Boulevard is a major thoroughfare known for its diverse culinary landscape, offering a rich array of Asian restaurants and shops.

While the restaurant itself might be described as "small and a bit old," its location within a plaza (often noted as being in the same plaza as Golden Dim Sum) provides convenient accessibility. Parking is generally available in the shared lot. Being on Bellaire Boulevard means it's easily reachable for residents across southwest Houston and beyond, making it a popular destination for those seeking authentic Asian cuisine without having to venture far. Its "hole-in-the-wall" charm is part of its allure, signaling an authentic, no-frills focus on excellent food.

  • Limited Operating Hours: It's important to note that Sushi Miyagi operates with specific, often limited, hours on weekdays (typically open for a few hours around lunch). This focused operation allows the owners to maintain their high standards of quality.
  • Takeout Options: While not explicitly detailed, given the nature of a small sushi restaurant, takeout is generally available for customers who prefer to enjoy their meal at home.
  • Vegan Options: For those with dietary preferences, HappyCow reports that Sushi Miyagi offers vegan options including various maki, inari sushi, avocado sushi, and seaweed salad, with some dishes adaptable by omitting non-vegan ingredients.
Features / Highlights
  • Exceptional Value and Generous Portions: One of the most frequently highlighted features is the incredible value and generous portion sizes. Customers consistently mention that the nigiri pieces are "huge," often double the standard size, and the sashimi cuts are "super thick," making the prices incredibly affordable for the quantity and quality received.
  • Freshness and Quality of Fish: Despite the low prices, the fish is consistently described as "delicious," "fresh," and "good quality." Reviewers praise the clean taste and buttery texture of fish like salmon, tuna, and eel.
  • Authentic "Hidden Gem" Vibe: Sushi Miyagi is widely referred to as a "hidden gem" in Houston. Its small, slightly older, clean space with a vintage vibe contributes to an authentic, unpretentious charm that many locals adore. It’s the kind of place "if you know, you know."

Their dedication, friendliness, and personal service create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel cared for.
  • Specific Menu Recommendations: Many loyal customers provide explicit recommendations, such as the "Sushi 3 Kinds" (Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail), "Spicy Hotate" as a "MUST," and the substantial "Sushi Sashimi for 2" platter, indicating well-loved and consistently good dishes.

  • Perfect for a Comfort Meal: Patrons often describe Sushi Miyagi as their "comfort zone for sushi," a place they go for reliably delicious, fresh, and affordable Japanese food.
Promotions or Special Offers

Sushi Miyagi doesn't typically advertise specific, limited-time "promotions" in the way larger chain restaurants might. Instead, their entire pricing structure and portion philosophy are seen as an ongoing, everyday special. The sheer value they provide for the quality and quantity of food is what constitutes their primary "promotion" in the eyes of their loyal customers.

  • Affordable Lunch Specials: These are a continuous offer that provides significant value. For instance, the "Sushi Lunch Special" often includes a selection of nigiri and a California roll, along with miso soup, at a price point that is exceptionally competitive for Houston.
  • Generous Nigiri & Sashimi Portions: The fact that their nigiri pieces are notably larger than standard (often double the size) and their sashimi cuts are "super thick" means you get substantially more food for your dollar on any given order. This inherent generosity makes every meal feel like a special offer.
  • Value-Priced Platters: Platters like the "Sushi Sashimi for 2" are also highlighted for their excellent value, providing a large assortment of high-quality sushi and sashimi at a very reasonable cost for sharing.

The core appeal of Sushi Miyagi lies in its consistent provision of delicious, fresh, and affordable sushi, making it a place where you always feel like you're getting a great deal, regardless of specific time-limited offers.
