Sushi Murasaki

2901 W MacArthur Blvd #108, Santa Ana, CA 92704, USA

4.0
This is a great, underrated omakase spot in OC and has been around a long time. It is traditional, unpretentious, and almost nostalgic in a way compared to the many overpriced trend-chasing omakase restaurants that have cropped up in recent years. I found the quality and freshness of the fish to be excellent, and I enjoyed their effective use of torching to get a nice savory charred flavor on some of the pieces. The garnishes and seasonings used were fresh and flavorful without overpowering the delicate seafood -- scallion soy oil, ginger paste, seasoned salt, and of course the fancier caviar and shaved truffle featured on our 12-piece omakase, complementing each item without overdoing it. The accompanying puffed rice soup (served in a teacup) had no business being as good as it was. Prices were reasonable given the quality, beer and sake selection was good, and service was attentive and friendly. Parking was plentiful. Overall, a classic and comfy omakase experience worth experiencing -- these folks deserve your support. - Chris S

Promotions or Special Offers

While specific, explicit "promotions" in the form of limited-time discounts are not prominently highlighted in the customer reviews for Sushi Murasaki, the restaurant's value proposition is inherently built into its core offerings, particularly its omakase experience. For locals in California, the "reasonable prices given the quality" can be seen as an ongoing benefit that serves as a continuous draw.

Instead of transient deals, Sushi Murasaki emphasizes value through its:

  • Affordable Omakase: Compared to many high-end, newly opened omakase restaurants in the region, Sushi Murasaki is described as offering a "classic and comfy omakase experience worth experiencing" at "reasonable" prices. Some reports suggest omakase options starting around $45 (though older reviews), with current discussions indicating pricing around $70-120 for multi-course meals, which is competitive for the quality offered in Orange County. This consistent value for a high-quality chef-selected meal is a significant "special offer" in itself.
  • Lunch Specials: Online menus often indicate dedicated lunch specials, such as Chirashi Lunch, Beef Donburi Lunch, Unagi Donburi Lunch, Tempura Udon Lunch, and Poke Bowls, which are typically more affordably priced than dinner menus and provide excellent value for a midday meal.
  • Comprehensive Menu Pricing: The menu offers a range of price points for individual nigiri, sashimi, and rolls, allowing customers to curate their meal according to their budget while still experiencing the restaurant's quality. For example, traditional rolls are often in the $8-10 range, with specialty rolls slightly higher.
  • Party Trays/Dinner Combos: While not explicitly a "promotion," the availability of various Dinner Combination plates (e.g., Chicken Teriyaki with Tempura and California Roll) and Sushi/Sashimi Dinners, as well as Party Platters, offers a structured way for groups to enjoy a diverse meal at a set price, often providing better value than ordering individual items.

Given its focus on a refined, traditional experience, Sushi Murasaki primarily promotes its consistent quality and value rather than frequent, fleeting discounts. The best "promotion" is the excellent standard of food and service at a price point considered reasonable for its caliber. Customers seeking to explore specific pricing should consult their online menus or call the restaurant directly.
