The central location in Los Angeles makes it an ideal spot for locals and visitors alike to experience high-end Japanese dining.
Sushi Tama specializes in providing a refined and exclusive Japanese dining experience, primarily centered around its omakase offering:
- Omakase Tasting Menus: The main service is their multi-course omakase, a chef's tasting menu that changes seasonally to feature the freshest ingredients. Reviewers specifically highlight an "amazing 18 course tasting menu." Options may include "Chef's Choice (Multi-Course Meal) Table" at $100 and "Sushi Counter" omakase at $180, though these prices may vary.
- Reservation-Only Dining: Due to its intimate nature and high demand, Sushi Tama operates on a reservation-only basis. Reservations are highly recommended and can be easily procured via platforms like Resy. They advise of a 20% service charge added to the check.
- Counter Seating: Dining at the sushi counter offers an immersive experience, allowing guests to watch Chef Yoshimoto prepare each delicate piece of sushi right in front of them, enhancing the "beautiful delicacy" of fresh wasabi being made.
- Exquisite Beverage Selection: Sushi Tama offers a curated selection of beverages, including sake (with customers finding their "favourite bottle of sake"), wines, and other drinks designed to perfectly complement the omakase courses.
- Takeout and Delivery (Limited): While the primary focus is on the dine-in omakase experience, Sushi Tama does offer some items for takeout and delivery through platforms like Postmates. Their online menu indicates various à la carte sushi, sashimi, and donburi options for those preferring to enjoy their quality at home.
- Customized Experience: The menu changes throughout the season, providing a unique "surprise" with every visit. The chef's ability to adapt the menu ensures a fresh and dynamic experience.
- Private Event Considerations: While not explicitly detailed in the reviews, high-end sushi restaurants often accommodate private dining requests for special occasions. It is advisable to inquire directly with the restaurant for such arrangements.
Sushi Tama is distinguished by several key features that contribute to its stellar reputation and memorable dining experiences:
- Exceptional Omakase Experience: The "amazing 18 course tasting menu" is a major highlight, with every course being a "surprise and delicious." The ever-changing seasonal menu keeps the experience fresh and exciting for repeat visitors.
- Masterful Chef Hideyuki Yoshimoto: Chef Yoshi, a native of Japan, honed his craft at Tokyo's iconic Tsukiji Fish Market. His expertise ensures "only the best and freshest ingredients" are served, and his desire to "share his culture and experience with the L.A. community" shines through in his creations.
- Pristine Freshness of Ingredients: The quality of the fish is paramount, with reviewers raving about "medium fatty tuna, shrimp, and uni" being among their favorites. The presence of "large chunks of fresh ginger per pallet cleanser" and watching "Fresh Wasabi be made in front of me" further underscores the commitment to freshness and authenticity.
- Featured Wagyu Shabu Shabu: A unique highlight mentioned is the "featured Shabu Shabu which was wagyu Style beef," indicating a diverse and luxurious offering beyond just sushi and sashimi.
- Beautiful Presentation & Ceramics: The dining experience is enhanced by the aesthetics, with reviews noting that "Their ceramics were so beautiful," adding to the overall refined atmosphere.
- Intimate & Attentive Service: The service is described as "top tier," "attentive," and the overall experience as "wonderful." The staff and chef are dedicated to ensuring customer satisfaction, contributing to the feeling of a special occasion.
- Memorable "Melt-in-Your-Mouth" Sushi: While not explicitly detailed for every piece, the expectation of sushi that "outweighed my expectations" and the quality of specific pieces imply a melt-in-your-mouth texture highly sought after by sushi connoisseurs.
- Exclusive Beverage Pairings: The availability of "my favourite bottle of sake" suggests a thoughtfully curated beverage list that perfectly complements the delicate flavors of the sushi.
As a high-end, omakase-focused sushi restaurant, Sushi Tama typically does not offer traditional "promotions" in the form of discounts or happy hour specials. The value it provides is inherent in the exclusive, curated dining experience and the unparalleled quality of its ingredients.
However, the concept of a multi-course omakase menu itself can be seen as a special offering. For a fixed price (e.g., $180 for an 18-course omakase as mentioned by a reviewer for the sushi counter, and a table omakase for $100), guests receive a comprehensive, chef-driven tasting experience that showcases a wide range of premium seasonal ingredients. This provides a complete culinary journey designed to offer maximum delight and discovery, which is the primary "promotion" of such an establishment.
For any unique seasonal omakase themes or special chef collaborations that might be offered, locals are best advised to check Sushi Tama's official Resy booking page or website, or contact them directly. The changing menu throughout the season ensures that each visit offers a fresh and surprising experience.

Given the highly sought-after nature of their omakase and the intimate dining setting, making reservations in advance is essential. Reservations can typically be made via online platforms such as Resy. For specific inquiries about dietary restrictions (though these may be limited for omakase menus), private events, or current menu details, contacting the restaurant by phone is recommended.
For Californians, especially those residing in the vibrant and diverse city of Los Angeles, Sushi Tama on Robertson Boulevard stands as an exceptionally suitable and highly recommended destination for an unparalleled Japanese dining experience. It caters to a discerning local clientele that appreciates the pinnacle of sushi artistry, fresh ingredients, and a truly memorable occasion.
The primary reason for its suitability for locals is its extraordinary omakase tasting menu, meticulously crafted by Chef Hideyuki Yoshimoto. The 18-course journey, with its surprising and delicious seasonal changes, offers an intimate and evolving exploration of premium seafood and innovative preparations, including features like Wagyu-style beef Shabu Shabu. The commitment to purity and freshness is evident, from the "medium fatty tuna, shrimp, and uni" to the spectacle of "Fresh Wasabi being made in front of you," creating a truly immersive and educational culinary event.

Sushi Tama Reviews
Came here for omakase and it was amazing. Every course was a surprise and delicious as they change their menu throughout the season. Their ceramics were so beautiful and they also had my favourite bottle of sake!
Apr 30, 2025 · AllishaWhat an amazing 18 course tasting menu prepared by chef Yoshi! My fiance and I went here for Friday night date night while visiting LA. We are looking forward to this Sushi tasting all week! And it outweighed my expectations! I loved the featured Shamu Shabu which was wagyu Style beef. Some of my favorite sushi rolls or the medium fatty tuna, shrimp, and uni! I loved the large chunks of fresh ginger per pallet cleanser between each bite. I always love watching Fresh Wasabi be made in front of me too, I feel like it's such a beautiful delicacy and just tastes so much better when you see your food prepared in front of you. What a wonderful experience! Highly recommend it to any sushi lover visiting LA!
Apr 06, 2025 · marjon farzSushi Tama is a true gem in the city for sushi lovers. The freshness is unmatched, with fish flown in daily from Japan, and the quality shines through in every bite. I’ve tried many sushi spots around town, but Sushi Tama has something extra—a touch of soul that makes you feel right at home. The ambiance is warm, and the staff adds to the inviting experience. For me, it’s the best omakase in the city, blending top-tier flavors with an authentic, welcoming vibe. That said, like all omakase, the prices are way too overrated—it’s ridiculous and not entirely justified.
Nov 10, 2024 · Mr ZWe came here with a last-minute reservation, and the experience exceeded my expectations. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. This sushi bar offers both bar and regular seating, with options for omakase or individual orders. Even though we chose the regular seats, the chef greeted us warmly from the counter. Having visited many high-end sushi bars in NYC, I can confidently say that this place stands out with its unique charm. The ambiance is more casual and cheerful, with a light touch of western vibes, compared to some sushi bars that serve omakase only. The space is open, with soothing lighting and music. The price is affordable and fair, given the quality of the food, which makes me wonder if sushi in NYC is somewhat overpriced. I had such a lovely meal and would definitely want to come back when I visit LA next time.
Jun 16, 2024 · Garfield XWent for impromptu family dinner and was delighted by the food and service! My husband and I each had the omakase while our son had the salmon rice bowl. Everything was exquisite!
