### Features / Highlights: What Makes Sushi Yasaka a Standout
Sushi Yasaka has cultivated a strong reputation on the Upper West Side due to several key features that resonate deeply with New Yorkers seeking quality and value in their sushi experience:
"High Quality Sushi without Breaking the Bank": This is arguably Sushi Yasaka's most significant draw. It is consistently praised for offering "one of the best sushi places in upper west side, and with reasonable prices." The ability to get "solid sushi" and even omakase without the exorbitant Manhattan price tag is a major highlight.
Exceptional Freshness and Taste: Customers repeatedly emphasize the freshness of the fish. The yellowtail is specifically lauded for its "butteryness" and "umami flavor which doesn't need soy sauce," indicating truly superior quality. Even the "creamy" texture of some sushi is seen as a positive, showcasing a unique and delicious preparation.
Attentive Service: Despite being a popular and often busy spot, the "service was attentive" according to reviews. This ensures a pleasant dining experience where customers feel well-cared for, a critical factor in a city known for its fast-paced service.
Chef-Driven Quality Control: The restaurant states that "All fish are carefully chosen from the fish market each morning" and "Our executive chef overseen every dish. From choosing the rice and seaweed to the decoration of plate, each dish is the demonstration of our dedications to customers." This meticulous attention to detail from sourcing to presentation guarantees a consistently high-quality product.
Traditional Preparation: The fish being "sliced in traditional style that preserves the original flavor and texture" appeals to sushi purists who value authenticity and the natural taste of the ingredients.
"Neighborhood Gem" Status: Sushi Yasaka is often referred to as a "neighborhood gem," indicating a beloved local spot that consistently delivers quality and has become a go-to for residents.
Ability to Accommodate without Reservations (with a wait): While reservations are always recommended, the fact that two people "got on a friday night with no reservation with a 20 minute wait" speaks to their efficient operations and desire to seat diners, even on busy nights.

### Promotions or Special Offers: Maximizing Value at Sushi Yasaka
Sushi Yasaka is well-known for providing excellent value, particularly through its appealing lunch specials and thoughtfully priced omakase options. While traditional "happy hour" style discounts like those found at a bar are not explicitly detailed in reviews, the restaurant's everyday pricing and specific meal deals offer significant savings for New Yorkers:
Lunch Specials (Available Daily): Sushi Yasaka offers a comprehensive selection of lunch specials, providing fantastic value during the midday hours. These typically include:
Roll Combos: Options like "Any 2 Roll Combo Lunch" for $13.00 and "Any 3 Roll Combo Lunch" for $16.00, both served with soup or a small salad. This is an incredibly popular and cost-effective way to enjoy a satisfying sushi lunch.
Sushi & Sashimi Lunch: "Sushi Lunch" (6 pieces of sushi with miso soup or small salad) for $16.00, "Sashimi Lunch" (11 pieces of sashimi with miso soup or a small salad) for $19.00, and "Miyabi Lunch" (4 pieces of sushi, 7 pieces of sashimi) for $20.00. These offer a great way to experience their fresh fish without a high dinner price.
Chirashi Lunch: A "Chirashi Lunch" (14 pieces of sashimi on a bed of sushi rice) for $20.00, served with miso soup or a small salad.
Kitchen Lunch Specials: Such as the "Yasaka Lunch Try Lunch Special" (served with soup, green salad, and 2 pieces of steamed shumai) for $14.00, providing a cooked option at an attractive price.
Affordable Omakase Options: Sushi Yasaka is unique in offering an omakase experience that is accessible without the typical premium price tag. Their "Mini Omakase" (6 pieces and 1 chef's choice roll) is priced at $28.00, while the "Yasaka's Chef Regular Recommended Omakase" (12 pieces and 1 chef's choice roll) is $55.00. This provides a "bargain omakase" that allows more people to enjoy a chef-selected tasting menu of high-quality sushi.
Reasonable A La Carte Pricing: Even outside of specials, the individual pieces of sushi and sashimi are priced competitively for the quality offered in Manhattan. For example, a single piece of fresh salmon nigiri is $4.50, and Yellowtail is also $4.50, which is considered very fair given the freshness and neighborhood.
No Service Charge Mentioned: Unlike some higher-end sushi establishments, there is no mention of an added service charge on their bills, making the final cost more transparent.
Delivery Platform Availability: Sushi Yasaka is available on popular food delivery services like Seamless, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. While the restaurant itself might not offer direct "promotions" through these platforms, customers can sometimes benefit from platform-specific discounts, free delivery for subscribers, or introductory offers for new users, adding further convenience and potential savings.
These consistent value offerings, particularly their lunch specials and accessible omakase, cement Sushi Yasaka's reputation as a top choice for quality sushi that provides excellent "bang for your buck" in New York City.

May 27, 2025 · Monica De NarvaezYasaka is a great spot on the upper west side to get high quality sushi without breaking the bank. Service was attentive and two of us got on a friday night with no reservation with a 20 minute wait. Sushi was a little bit “creamy” which honestly tasted fantastic. Would recommend for people looking for a solid sushi spot in the neighborhood
May 11, 2025 · Luke TannenbaumVery surprised to find this gem in UWS of Manhattan. We had a reservation for 12 pm on a Sunday and it's already packed 😲. Excellent food. Had choice of lunch specials on weekends ! The soft shell crab roll showcased beefy juicy crab in perfectly thin deep fried batter. Family friendly as we noticed a little hand reaching out in between the partition to say hi ... Not swiping our sashimi 🤣. So cute 🥰. Will revisit and will reserve a spot before hand to be sure. Service team is wonderful. Excellent find 👍🤩
Dec 02, 2024 · M HIf you're pre-Lincoln Center-ing and can't stand the mediocre vibes at The Smith, walk 8 min north to Sushi Yasaka for affordable pan-Japanese fare.Yasaka isn't looking to win any Michelin-Beard awards, so don't come in with your highfalutin omakase nonsense. It's a neighborhood spot, serving the kind of down-home food your obaasan from another mother would feed you after a long day of middle schooling. We got the Special Spicy Salmon Roll, which was a tasty omega-3 smorgasbord of fishy goodness. To accompany it, we also got the Salmon Roll and Spicy Salmon Roll because what we lack in diversity, we make up for with being basic. Haha.Apparently, fish, rice and nori wasn't enough because we decided to also tack on some soup udon. The Kansai Udon was my pick, and it was perfect for a chilly night when all you want is to be encased in liquid carbs. All that for the low, low price of ~$30pp (tax and tip included), and this place practically pays YOU to eat here.
Mar 01, 2025 · Josephine LeeA lively sushi spot serving a variety of sushi, nigiri, and izakaya-style dishes. We particularly enjoyed the Ankimo for its tender texture and rich flavor, as well as the Hamachi Kama with its grilled texture. The Sashimi Deluxe set offered a nice assortment of cuts with decent quality. Overall, this is a cozy neighborhood spot for casual sushi with warm and friendly service.
