Sushin Introduce
Located at 528 N Thompson Ln, Murfreesboro, TN 37129, Sushin stands as a testament to longevity in the local culinary scene, being potentially "the oldest still open sushi place in Murfreesboro." Operating within the "Doctor Near Me" platform category, which emphasizes readily available local services and goods, Sushin offers a diverse menu blending Japanese sushi with Korean specialties, catering to a wide range of palates. This introduction will provide an objective overview of the restaurant based on available customer feedback, highlighting its unique features and overall appeal.
While detailed descriptions of Sushin's interior design are not explicitly provided, customer reviews hint at an atmosphere conducive to enjoyment and relaxation. The recurring theme of patrons "laughed and enjoyed the atmosphere and great service" suggests a comfortable and welcoming environment. For a restaurant that has been open for "many years," it likely possesses a familiar and unpretentious charm that loyal customers appreciate. The emphasis on "great service" indicates that the staff plays a significant role in creating a positive dining experience. Traditional Japanese and Korean restaurants often blend functional seating with subtle cultural decor elements, creating a space that feels authentic and inviting. The fact that customers choose to return "on and off for many years" points to an environment that fosters repeat visits and a sense of community. This makes Sushin a reliable spot for a casual meal where the focus is on good food and pleasant company.
Sushin provides a comprehensive range of services to accommodate its diverse clientele. Primarily, it operates as a dine-in restaurant, inviting guests to experience its dual Japanese and Korean menu within its established ambiance. For those who prefer to enjoy their food elsewhere, takeout is a readily available option, allowing customers to call in their orders. Sushin can be reached directly at (615) 895-7585 or +1 615-895-7585 for inquiries or to place orders. The customer review explicitly mentions that the chef/owner is accommodating, particularly in making custom orders like "sushi without rice," and does so "without giving me any issues about it." This level of flexibility and customer accommodation is a significant service feature, highlighting a personalized approach that enhances customer satisfaction. While not explicitly mentioned, the longevity and popularity of the establishment suggest a focus on consistent and reliable service, which contributes to its reputation as a "solid place" for many years.
Sushin distinguishes itself by offering a unique fusion of Japanese sushi and authentic Korean dishes, providing a broader culinary experience than a typical sushi bar. Key features and culinary offerings include:
Japanese Sushi: As a sushi place that might be the oldest in Murfreesboro, Sushin offers a variety of sushi rolls. While one reviewer noted a change or difference in their Spider Roll from what they typically expect (preferring a "not heavily sauced" more "traditional" kind), the overall sentiment is that the "food there never is bad." This suggests that even if a specific dish doesn't perfectly align with a diner's preference for a particular style, the quality remains consistently acceptable. The availability of traditional sushi options is a core part of their menu.
Korean Cuisine - Kalbi: A major highlight mentioned by a customer is their Kalbi (Korean grilled short ribs), which is declared as the "Best Kalbi in town!!" This strong endorsement indicates that their Korean offerings are a significant draw and a must-try for patrons who appreciate authentic Korean flavors.
Custom Sushi Options (Rice-less Sushi): A standout feature is Sushin's willingness and ability to "make sushi without rice." This accommodation for dietary preferences or personal choices, with the chef/owner receiving praise for being "AMAZING" and not giving "any issues about it," makes Sushin particularly appealing to those seeking low-carb or specific dietary modifications. This level of customization sets them apart from many other sushi establishments.
Consistency and Reliability: Despite some individual dishes potentially being "a little off" on a given night, the overarching sentiment is that the "food there never is bad," and it is "generally a solid place." This consistency over "many years" is a strong testament to their quality control and culinary execution.
The dual focus on high-quality sushi (with custom options) and exceptional Korean dishes like Kalbi makes Sushin a unique and versatile dining destination. The ability to cater to diverse tastes and dietary needs adds significant value to their offerings.
While specific ongoing discount promotions are not detailed, Sushin's long-standing presence and consistent positive word-of-mouth are their primary forms of promotion. The sentiment that the place has been "open for a long time for a reason" implicitly promotes its reliability and consistent quality. The pricing appears to offer good value, as customers feel they "ordered and ate a ton, laughed and enjoyed the atmosphere and great service, and... definitely didn't leave dissatisfied." This indicates that the overall dining experience, encompassing food quality, service, and ambiance, justifies the cost for patrons. The exceptional quality of their Kalbi and the unique offering of rice-less sushi also serve as strong selling points, attracting specific customer segments. The commendation for the chef/owner for their accommodating nature further enhances the restaurant's appeal, contributing to a positive customer relationship that encourages repeat business. Sushin's ability to maintain a loyal customer base for many years, offering both Japanese and Korean cuisine with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction, positions it as a valuable and reliable "Doctor Near Me" for culinary needs in Murfreesboro.

Sushin Reviews
I really swore I'd reviewed this place before, but clearly I haven't.I've come here on and off for many years, as I believe this might be the oldest still open sushi place in Murfreesboro. It's not in my top 3, but it is generally a solid place. Today, we ordered a few different things that we weren't huge fans of, but that's okay.I think they changed their spider roll, or maybe I just haven't had theirs in a long time. It wasn't what I was expecting, as I prefer the more traditional (in the sense that I prefer the kind I tend to get at other more traditional Japanese places.... the not heavily sauced) kind.It wasn't bad, and the food there never is. The food was just a little off tonight for us. And again, that might have been on us ordering different things.Still, we ordered and ate a ton, laughed and enjoyed the atmosphere and great service, and we definitely didn't leave dissatisfied. This place has been open for a long time for a reason. Give them a shot!
November 19 · Mandy JohnsonBest Kalbi in town!! Also they can make sushi without rice ❤ they are AMAZING and I will keep them as my top Sushi and Korean restaurant in town I highly recommend giving them a try you wont regret it! The chef/owner is the best!! Thank you for making my rolls without rice and not giving me any issues about it.
December 30 · S SThe original best sushi place in The Boro! The owners have been on this location for 27 years and probably longer in town. All the rolls are excellent as are the sashimi and nigiri. Any cooked dishes off the menu are top notch as well
January 21 · Eddie DavisJust OK. I’m not a big fan of cream cheese and space filler sushi so I ordered Spicy Tuna and wanted to try their Hawaiian roll because there were no cream cheese/ deep fried. The spicy tuna was a letdown, too much cucumbers , couldn’t really taste the tuna or their spice. Hawaiian roll looked good but the seaweed was so chewy. I ordered Salmon sashimi as well just to see how fresh their fish is on Tuesday. They were fresh but the size was ok but Km fine with them for the price point. I tried squid salad, even though they weren’t deep fried, they are a bit chewy, this is cooked and serve room temp towards chill. I found out that the couple who cooked and served were Korean. I should have leaned towards Korean food. The name of the restaurant misleading me that I was going get an awesome sushi dinner.I took pix of their menu, a bit annoying that I couldn’t get to see the price unless I have another menu side by side. When I searched for “Sushi near me” on Google map, this restaurant came up, I saw 4.4 stars and thought, I could give it a try. I should have zoom in those images from pep who love this place, they were cream cheese, half avocado, half fish, average price on rolls are $15 , I expect more fish. Just how I view a sushi restaurant 🤷🏻♀️
March 01 · Bua SchmidyWe had the Sushi Regular combo (comes with 8 nigiri and a tuna roll) as well as the Spider roll (pictured) and Sunshine special roll (not pictured). Everything tasted very fresh and light, atmosphere was cozy, service was good, a bit slow but they are understaffed and working hard and we don’t mind waiting. Going forward I would definitely get the sushi combos and the spider or shrimp tempura rolls again! I didn’t love the sunshine roll but it was the same great quality, just personal preference. Also fairly priced. Very friendly and would for sure recommend this place!Edit: We went again the next day and it was just as good, even better! We tried the shrimp tempura roll (so good, looks just like the spider roll but with shrimp instead of crab), Fuji apple sake (only 8% alc so we didn’t feel bad trying it for lunch haha), and mentaiko rice balls (be careful, these really fill you up, you won’t have room for the rest!). Everything was so delicious I ate it before I could get more pictures 😂 so fresh and definitely a new regular for us!
