For residents of California, particularly those in the Pasadena area, SUSHIYA offers itself as a convenient and accessible local option for Japanese cuisine. Its suitability for locals lies in several key aspects, though it's important to acknowledge that customer experiences can vary, as is common with many local eateries.
Firstly, the prime location on East Foothill Boulevard provides easy access for many. Being situated on a well-known street means locals can quickly stop by for a meal, whether dining in or picking up a takeout order. The availability of both dine-in and delivery services (via DoorDash) caters to diverse local lifestyles, offering flexibility for a quick lunch during a workday, a casual dinner after a long day, or a convenient meal at home without venturing out. This accessibility and multiple service options are highly valued in busy Californian communities.
Secondly, SUSHIYA's menu offers a breadth of Japanese dishes that aim to satisfy various palates. Beyond just sushi and sashimi, the inclusion of cooked items like tempura and chicken teriyaki ensures that there are options for everyone in a group, including those who might prefer cooked dishes over raw fish. While some reviews mention inconsistencies in presentation or rice texture, the positive comments about the "fresh" fish and "good" tasting rolls suggest that quality elements are present, potentially making it a hit-or-miss but still viable option for local cravings.
Furthermore, for locals, a key consideration is often value. Some patrons have noted that "prices are ok for what you get," indicating a perception of reasonable pricing for the offerings. In a region where dining costs can add up, an establishment that provides an acceptable balance of price and product can become a regular stop for everyday meals.
While some customers have expressed significant disappointment regarding specific orders or general quality, it's also clear that others have found the food to be "pretty good" overall. This suggests that the experience at SUSHIYA might be dependent on individual expectations and specific menu choices. For a local resident, it represents a readily available option for Japanese food that, for some, hits the spot when the desire for sushi or other Japanese staples arises. It’s a local business in the truest sense, offering a convenient dining solution that integrates into the fabric of the Pasadena community, allowing residents to form their own opinions with each visit.

SUSHIYA (Pasadena) Reviews
I came here for the first time. The food is pretty good. The fish tastes fresh no fishy smell at all. The presentation though could be improved. The rice was slightly hard. Roll tatsed good so no biggie but it would be better if the rice was as it supposed to be. Prices are ok for what you get. Restaurant itself needs a remodel. But overall food was pretty good.
Mar 25, 2025 · Tazzzie333Oh my goodness, I admit that I did not have high expectations, but within the same time, I did not know this place could be this bad.Ordered 5 items from Sushiya through DoorDash and it cost us $150+. Pricy? No big deal. As long as it is tasty, we don’t mind paying more for the better quality. However, it turned out to be the worst sushi I’ve ever had (I’m not exaggerating) Nothing is authentic, they basically used the same fish for all the dishes, and some sashimi tasted so fishy. Rice was not the standard sushi vinegar rice, plus the tempura plate was soft and chicken teriyaki was basically boiled chicken breast with some cheap teriyaki sauce. The entire order was just very disappointing!Would avoid this place at all cost. A hard pass!
May 22, 2024 · Christy EGood food, great quantity for reasonable price. The sushi are very… Americanized, with lots of sauce and toppings, far removed from the Japanese experience. Nonetheless, they tasted good and the quantity of food - and in particular- fish was impressive for the price. I wish that the edamame were a little salted but the seaweed salad was perfect. I was not super impressed but could go back sometime.
Oct 12, 2021 · Andreas AristidouCute sushi place for a date night. Open late and the servers are so sweet. The sushi tastes super fresh and everything comes out quickly. Definitely recommend the Jasmine Roll, Yellowtail rolls, mixed sashimi plate, and udon.
