For those living in California, especially in the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles, the quest for truly authentic and high-quality Japanese cuisine is a never-ending adventure. SUSHIZANMAI LA, a name that resonates with sushi lovers in Japan, has brought its renowned culinary tradition to the heart of LA's Koreatown. This isn't just another sushi spot; it's a destination that feels like a slice of Tokyo. Known for its iconic, friendly-looking statue of the owner, this restaurant promises a top-notch sushi experience that combines the best of Japanese tradition with modern convenience. The entire dining process is streamlined through an easy-to-use tablet app, allowing for quick, efficient, and personalized ordering, which means your food arrives at your table just minutes after you order it.
SUSHIZANMAI LA specializes in high-quality tuna, offering an impressive variety that makes it a true haven for "tuna-enjoyers." From classic Albacore Nigiri to premium cuts like Chutoro and Otoro, the selection is vast and a testament to the restaurant's expertise. But the menu's appeal extends far beyond just tuna. They also feature a range of other incredibly fresh fish and unique offerings like the Jumbo Sea Eel Nigiri and Ama Ebi shrimp. Beyond the raw fish, SUSHIZANMAI LA introduces diners to less common Japanese dishes, such as their delightful Toban dishes, which are things braised in a nabe pot with a sweet soy sauce—a must-try for a unique and savory experience. The commitment to fresh ingredients is apparent in every bite, from the succulent Ama Ebi shrimp to the perfectly prepared sushi rice that forms the foundation of each piece.
The atmosphere at SUSHIZANMAI LA is a blend of traditional Japanese charm and modern, clean efficiency. It's a place that is popular for both dinner and solo dining, offering a comfortable space for a quick meal or a more leisurely feast. The restaurant's popularity is well-earned, and while it's a destination for many, the efficient service helps manage the crowds. The menu is diverse enough to satisfy a wide range of cravings, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to hot tempura and other appetizers. This attention to detail and commitment to a high-quality, authentic experience is why SUSHIZANMAI LA has become such a beloved institution, and its arrival in Los Angeles is a welcome addition to the city's vibrant food scene.

SUSHIZANMAI LA Reviews
This is the sushi restaurant featured in the Yakuza games with the statue of the friendly portly gentleman beckoning you inside with outstretched arms! The sushi here was top notch and ordered via an easy-to-use tablet app. The orders were served very quickly, within minutes of ordering, and there were some out-of-ordinary items like Toban dishes (things braised in a nabe pot with a delightful sweet soy sauce, a must try). Everything was super delicious but my favorite had to be the Ama Ebi shrimp sushi, the shrimp were enormous and so succulent, I could have eaten an unholy amount of them. They also specialize in tuna and offer just about every type of tuna imaginable so this will totally be a tuna-enjoyer's heaven.I came at an off-time, at around 2:30 on Saturday (30 minutes before they close at 3pm to re-open at 5pm) and did not have to wait to be seated. The parking can be quite harrowing, but that's LA Koreatown for you. I fervently hope this place opens a branch in Orange County (please! The demand is there!)
August 17 · Catherine Luithis is definitely the place to get tuna. it’s absolutely delicious and so was the tempura dishes. the sushi rice was perfect. the salmon and albacore belly were fine. not as good as the tuna and i would skip the chawanmushi as it didn’t have as much dashi flavor. the asparagus dish was soooo good. very refreshing :)
August 19 · Stefania AroninAmazing Sushi, Robert has Excellent customer service skills. This sushi tastes Only resembles the one you eat it in Asian country. Must Must try. My favorite one is Crispy Tuna rice
August 23 · Heba HFirst trip SushiZanmai in Tokyo, Shinjuku district this past Feb. unbelievable quality and prices for a chain! Now in LA, a dream come true.quality is surreal, extremely fair prices.Service is good. Working on a few hiccups but overall too notch!
August 16 · Troy HashimotoWell known chain in Japan for good bang for your buck sushi. Like if you are looking for a good omakase experience at the counter, this aint it.But if you are looking for good quality sushi a la carte, this place does it well. It's probably one of the best sushi spot in K-Town right now if not the best. Kazunori is really good but I actually like this place better. And I know Norikaya recently opened up but that one looks like a more upscale kinda spot. It is definitely a must try.The toros are amazing and so is the uni. The flavor is good and there isn't that sinewy chew that some lower quality places have for toro. They also have this very long eel as well that I didn't get to try this time, but will next time. I got a lot of stuff but I'm not really a take picture of food type of person. Kinda wish I did nowI wouldn't say it's cheap though. It might look that way on the menu, but you are getting only one piece of nigiri at a time. I know what happened to the "ni" part of the giri 😑? But otherwise beyond that it was a great experience and great quality food. Also you order food from a tablet. Personally I liked it but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea.
