It's a testament to their unwavering commitment to freshness, flavor, and friendly service.
Te Isshoku Sushi specializes in providing incredibly fresh sashimi, generously portioned sushi rolls, and beautifully presented bento boxes, all designed for those on the go. Locals consistently rave about the rich taste of their fish and the deliciousness of their seaweed rice, proving that convenience doesn't have to mean compromising on quality. While you might need to plan ahead by ordering online to avoid a wait, the consensus among patrons is clear: the wait is "absolutely worth it." Te Isshoku Sushi has become a go-to spot for Angelenos seeking a high-quality, authentic Japanese meal that fits seamlessly into their busy urban lives.
Te Isshoku Sushi boasts a unique and somewhat hidden location within the vibrant landscape of Downtown Los Angeles. You'll find this takeout-only Japanese spot cleverly situated on the Bunker Hill Steps, at 633 W 5th St, Los Angeles, CA 90071, USA. This central DTLA address places it in close proximity to numerous office buildings, residential complexes, and popular attractions, making it a convenient stop for locals working or living in the area.
Its position on the Bunker Hill Steps means it might require a short walk up or down the stairs, but it's easily accessible on foot for those already in Downtown. For Californians relying on public transportation, Te Isshoku Sushi is very well-situated. It's just a short walk from major Metro stations, connecting it to various parts of the city. While there's no dedicated parking for a takeout-only establishment, numerous public parking garages and street parking options are available in the surrounding Financial District, albeit with standard downtown rates. The unique location adds to its charm, making it a memorable find for those seeking quality Japanese food in a convenient format.

- Walk-Up Orders: While pre-ordering is recommended, customers can also place orders directly at the window, though this may involve a wait, especially during peak hours.
- Friendly Customer Service: The staff is consistently praised for being "very nice," "helpful when it came to ordering," and providing a welcoming experience.
- Catering Services: The restaurant offers catering, making it a viable option for local businesses and events looking to provide high-quality Japanese cuisine.
- Beverages: A selection of drinks is available to complement the meal, including Cold Matcha Green Tea, various sodas, and bottled water.
Te Isshoku Sushi has garnered a loyal following among Californians in Downtown LA due to several key features that set it apart:
- Exceptional Freshness and Quality: The most significant highlight is the "incredibly fresh and rich" sashimi and fish used in all their preparations. Customers consistently commend the high quality of ingredients, which shines through in every bite.
- Takeout-Only Model with Efficiency: While initially surprising to some, the dedicated takeout model allows them to focus solely on preparing food quickly and efficiently without compromising quality. Pre-ordering online makes the process very smooth.
- Generous Portions at Reasonable Prices: Despite the high quality, customers note that the "portions were generous" and the price is "fairly reasonable," offering excellent value for premium sushi in Downtown LA.
- Delicious Seaweed Rice: Reviewers specifically mention the "seaweed rice was also delicious," indicating attention to detail even in the foundational elements of their dishes.
- Artistic Presentation: Even for a takeout establishment, the food is often described as having an "artistic" and "beautiful" presentation, demonstrating the chef's care and attention to detail.
- Friendly and Accommodating Staff: The "wonderful staff" and "very friendly woman at the window" who "showed us pictures of the rolls" and even the fresh fish, contribute significantly to a positive customer experience.
- "Worth the Wait": Even when unexpected, the wait for an order is consistently deemed "absolutely worth it" by satisfied customers, underscoring the quality of the food.
- Hidden Gem Appeal: Its slightly tucked-away location on the Bunker Hill Steps adds to its charm as a local secret, discovered and loved by those in the know.
As a primarily takeout and grab-and-go establishment, Te Isshoku Sushi focuses its value proposition on consistent quality and generous portions at fair prices rather than frequent, overt promotional campaigns. However, based on typical operations for such businesses and available information, we can infer how they provide value:
- Value-Packed Futomaki Rolls: Their "Fat Rolled Sushi" (Futomaki) are notably generous in size and come with various premium fillings, offering a satisfying and substantial meal that delivers excellent value for a single item. For example, a 12-piece Fatty Tuna Futomaki or Salmon Futomaki provides a comprehensive and fulfilling portion.
- Bento Box Offerings: The curated bento boxes likely serve as a form of "special offer," combining various popular items (like sashimi/sushi, sides, and rice) into a convenient, well-priced, and beautifully presented meal set. This allows customers to sample different elements of their menu in one go.
- "Catch of the Day" Signature Boxes: Their "Usuzukuri" sashimi boxes (e.g., Norwegian Salmon, Japanese Yellowtail, Bluefin Tuna) are presented as "Signature Boxes" or "Most Liked," indicating these are premium, high-demand items that offer a consistent level of quality and value for fresh sashimi.
- Reasonable Pricing for Quality: Customers consistently comment that "considering the high quality of food, the price is fairly reasonable!" This ongoing value proposition is a key "special" that keeps patrons returning.
For any specific, limited-time deals or seasonal offerings, customers are encouraged to check Te Isshoku Sushi's online ordering platforms (like Uber Eats or DoorDash) or their direct online order site, as these are the most likely places for them to announce any current specials.

Te Isshoku Sushi Reviews
I didn’t know this place was takeout-only, so when I got there, I had to wait at least 30 minutes because all the other orders had been placed online in advance. I decided to wait, and it turned out to be one of the smartest decisions I’ve made—the wait was absolutely worth it. Their sashimi was incredibly fresh and rich, the seaweed rice was also delicious, and the portions were generous! Considering the high quality of food, the price is fairly reasonable!
May 23, 2025 · Xudong Guan (Terry)This is a take out place with amazing sushi and a wonderful staff. We were not sure what to order, but then the very friendly woman at the window showed us the bento box the chef just finished and it was amazing. She also showed us pictures of the rolls and we ordered a salmon and a yellowtail roll (the chef showed us the fish :) ). The presentation was artistic and the food amazing!
May 03, 2025 · Ewa DeelmanIf you are near downtown LA you gotta visit this place. Chef Te and wife Lisa are the most lovely ppl. Everything is freshly made at the moment. They freaking age their own blue fin tuna. I wish I took a Pic of it because it was massive. I got Toro and it was so so delicious. I have a gluten allergy and they are very knowledgeable. Very honest and help me select which dish would be safest for my level of intolerance. They are not a dine in restaurant but there are so many areas to sit outside near the area. Also they are partners with the US bank tower where you can sit and dine. Amazing food made by Amazing ppl, they just earned a loyal customer for my business trips.
May 17, 2025 · KimI really liked the attitude of the staff. They are open and friendly! I ordered salmon sushi and asked to add creamy cheese. All this was done at the highest level! Delicious sushi! I will definitely come back here❤️
Feb 24, 2025 · РозаUpdate 1 yr later - still awesome!! Lisa and Chef Te are going strong! SOOO friendly and food is equally impressive! I added some pics and video of the spaces for picking up the food and where to eat. Here is what I wrote a year ago and it all applies!: I really enjoyed the food and the experience here!! Much better food service and atmosphere than sit down sushi I had in downtown Burbank yesterday. I didn’t realize it was take out only when I arrived, but I decided to roll with it. Lisa, who took my order, is super friendly and promised a nice area to eat in the garden area above and it delivered! It helps it is a nice day, but there are a bunch of tables under a solid canopy structure if it rains. Fountains, green grass, trees. Very nice calming area. They claim half pound protein in the salmon fat roll box and I believe it. Chef tay said the salmon was good and used salmon belly..delicious! They said to try their green sauce as an alternative to soy sauce and it was very tasty! They are trying hard here and doing a great job in my view.
