The Grubbies

Wow - probably one of the best sushi I have ever had in San Francisco... The fish was very fresh! I got “mini Omakase” (chef’s choice, small) for $15. The small box (3.5 in x 3.5 in x 2 in) does not look like a lot, but it comes with a small package of sushi rice, miso soup, and a package of aji-nori (Japanese flavored seaweed), wrapped in a small wrapping cloth. For me that was more than enough food, but if you have a big appetite, the regular omakase is $39. I will definitely go back there. - Tomoko Creed

Services Offered

The Grubbies primarily operates as a high-end Japanese deli, specializing in meticulously prepared, ready-to-eat meals, with a strong focus on their unique omakase boxes. Their services are designed for convenience without sacrificing quality:

  • Mini Omakase (Chef's Choice, Small): A highly praised offering, featuring a selection of fresh sushi pieces. Despite its "mini" size (described as a 3.5 in x 3.5 in x 2 in box), it comes with a small package of sushi rice, miso soup, and a package of aji-nori (Japanese flavored seaweed), all neatly wrapped in a small cloth. Priced at approximately $15, it's considered more than enough food for one person, especially for lunch.

  • Regular Omakase: For those with a larger appetite or desiring a more extensive selection, a regular omakase option is available, priced around $39. This would likely include a greater variety and quantity of fresh sushi and sashimi.

  • Fresh Sushi and Sashimi: The core of their offering, with customers consistently noting the "very fresh" quality of the fish.

  • Grab-and-Go Convenience: Designed for efficiency, allowing customers to quickly pick up well-prepared meals. This is ideal for busy professionals or those on a tight schedule.

  • Online Ordering/Order Ahead: Patrons can order ahead of time, for example, through platforms like Ritual, significantly reducing wait times for pickup (reportedly less than 10 minutes).

  • Beautiful Packaging: The food comes with "lovely wrapping" that is "neat and detailed," adding to the overall refined experience of a high-quality prepared meal.

  • Complementary Items: Each omakase box includes thoughtful additions like miso soup and aji-nori (Japanese flavored seaweed), enhancing the complete meal experience.
