Tokyo Shokudo has earned a reputation for several key features that set it apart and make it a favorite among locals:
- Consistently High-Quality Japanese Food: This is a recurring theme in customer feedback. Many reviewers praise the consistency and quality of the dishes, describing everything as "just right and so delicious." One customer stated they "cannot fathom why their rating is anything less than 5 stars because they have been the most consistently good Japanese food that we've gotten in this town over the last few years." This reliability is a major draw for regular patrons.
- Freshly Prepared Meals: Tokyo Shokudo emphasizes making "everything fresh so the meal is hot and delicious!" This commitment to freshness ensures a superior dining experience, as dishes are cooked to order rather than sitting under heat lamps.
- Excellent Chicken Karaage and Japanese Curry: These two dishes are frequently highlighted as must-try items. The chicken karaage is consistently described as "juicy and flavorful while the battering is not too heavy." The Japanese curry is also highly recommended for its "good with decent flavor."
- Comprehensive Set Meals (Teishoku): The inclusion of various side dishes with their "Plate" or "Teishoku" options provides a well-rounded and satisfying meal. For instance, the karaage plate comes with "small side dishes like half egg, seaweed salad, shredded cabbage, miso soup and a bowl of rice," along with "two different sauces for the cabbage and the chicken." This attention to detail enhances the overall dining experience.
- Variety of Authentic Options: Beyond their signature items, Tokyo Shokudo offers a broad menu of traditional Japanese comfort foods, including different types of katsu, grilled fish, donburi, and various curry toppings, ensuring there's something to satisfy diverse preferences.
- Value and Portion Sizes: While not the cheapest, customers often find the quality, freshness, and portion sizes to provide excellent value for the price, making it a worthwhile dining destination.
- Convenient Location within Mitsuwa Marketplace: The ability to enjoy authentic Japanese food while also having access to a full Japanese supermarket and bookstore (as one reviewer noted) adds significant convenience and enhances the overall cultural experience for locals.
Tokyo Shokudo, like many establishments within the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court, primarily focuses on offering value through its consistent quality and generous portion sizes at competitive prices. While specific, regularly rotating promotions or a dedicated loyalty program directly from Tokyo Shokudo are not widely advertised, there are still ways for locals to find value and special offers:
- Value in Set Meals (Teishoku): The "Teishoku" or plate meals are inherently a form of value offering. By bundling a main dish with rice, miso soup, pickles, and various side dishes, they provide a complete and satisfying meal at a set price, which is often more economical than ordering components separately. For example, a Chicken Karaage Plate or Chicken Katsu Plate offers a substantial meal for a reasonable cost.
- Third-Party Delivery Platform Promotions: As Tokyo Shokudo is available on popular food delivery apps like Uber Eats and DoorDash, customers may occasionally find platform-specific promotions. These could include discounts on first orders from the restaurant, reduced delivery fees, or seasonal deals offered by the delivery service. It is always a good idea to check these apps for any current offers before placing an order.
- Mitsuwa Marketplace Events: Being located within a large Japanese marketplace, Tokyo Shokudo might indirectly benefit from or participate in special events or sales hosted by Mitsuwa Marketplace. While these aren't direct Tokyo Shokudo promotions, they can attract more visitors to the area, creating an opportunity to enjoy a meal at the restaurant.
For the most up-to-date information on pricing and any potential limited-time specials, it is always recommended to check their menu directly on online ordering platforms or inquire at the restaurant counter during your visit.

Tokyo Shokudo Reviews
We love this place! Everything we've had has been just right and so delicious. I cannot fathom why their rating is anything less than 5 stars because they have been the most consistently good Japanese food that we've gotten in this town over the last few years. We frequently drive over 40 minutes just to eat here and enjoy the market and bookstore.
May 26 · Josh CooleyExcellent eatery for Japanese curry and chicken karaage (fried chicken nuggets)! They made everything fresh so the meal is hot and delicious! We ordered one chicken katsu curry and one karaage. The karaage also comes with small side dishes like half egg, seaweed salad, shredded cabbage, miso soup and a bowl of rice. They also serve two different sauces for the cabbage and the chicken. Chicken is juicy and flavorful while the battering is not too heavy. The curry is also good with decent flavor. Both dishes are tasty and highly recommended!
November 08 · Jie GongThe food is alright but it doesn't look like the display. The amount of food you get is smaller than what you see on display. The curry fries just look sad. This is my second time going there. I thought I would give them another chance. But this will also be my last time. It's so not worth it. There are better places in that food court.
September 11 · ConnieThe food here was shamefully bad. I had Katsu, which was overcooked and lacked any flavor resembling pork. It was deep fried “meat.” I won’t even comment on the rice. I just got back from Japan and having gone to several fast food Katsu restaurants, maybe I have really high expectations. I don’t think I am being overly critical though. This is a Japanese owned establishment and they are throwing all of the potential of what this restaurant should be into the trash. It’s sad. Do they really take pride in charging money for food like this? Please do better for your customers and serve something that is good.
March 09 · Jonathan MooreGreat addition to Mitsuwa Marketplace. Menu is still limited at this time since they recently opened. Got the katsu curry to go (pictured, curry on the side so not in picture). Good flavor, very moist meat with good crunch. The rice underneath is flavored with furikake.
