Uchi Austin Reviews
I love that Uchi continues to be a fantastic restaurant. We hadn't been for several years and since then we've become vegetarian, which is great for us because Uchi offers many fun vegetarian options now! Here's what we had:Favorites:yasai cure - my fav dish of theirs was the machi cure and I believe this is their vegetarian version. I was blown away that they could recreate this without fish. It was fantastic - perfect combination of flavors.hana nigiri - really delicious and savory. Wouldn't have guessed this was cauliflower.Biendo - fantastic roll. Our waiter said it was their take on a spring roll. Light and fresh with bold flavors. It was wonderfulBroccoli katsu - holy crap this was fantastic. Perfect little bites of the best fried broccoli ever, with a wonderful dipping sauce.Pretty good:Sunomono - delightful light and crisp salad. Pretty tasty and fun. They always make things taste amazing with asian pears.Kinoko skewer - delicious mushroom skewer. I liked the addition of the sauce and cilantro. I'd probably try the kinoko nigiri next time instead.Korokke - these were so fun! The actually reminded us more of the katsu curry that we've had in the past. They were pretty hefty and flavourful - the sauce was totally unexpected in the best wayPumpkin nigiri - it wasn't on their menu but they brought it for my bday as a gift. The pumpkin was good but the little bit of topping tied it all together with a citrus delicousnessWouldn't get again:Shag - This was their vegetarian version. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan - too many heavy ingredients and soft textures.Service was excellent and everything was enjoyed with their wonderful sake.
May 12, 2025 · Amanda WeilenmannThe vegetarian tasting menu is SO incredibly good. We’ve done other tasting menus but this one undoubtedly takes the cake. Absolutely scrumptious courses! Our waitress Emma was super sweet and the food was unforgettable. Uchi is a must-visit for special occasions and celebrations :) Officially my new favorite restaurant in Austin!
Apr 19, 2025 · Nandini B.Amazing date night here at Uchi! All the selections were so delicious but my favorites were the karaage, yellowtail collar, banana cake, and the sorbet! Joy was such a great server and chef! Thank you for the awesome service 🥰
May 13, 2025 · giullian canlasI had visited Uchi years back and really enjoyed my experience. This time we were very much disappointed with the service. It was slow (which is okay) but nothing was coming out in the order and when the dish got to the table, there were mix-ups. We were reminding our waiter about the backlog and started keeping a tab on the food we ordered. Food is really good but it’s not like we don’t have other good Sushi options in Austin now, including your sister establishments (we were at Uchiko recently and we liked the food and service). Valet was prompt and good. We hope it was just an odd crowded day with limited staff because when we spend close to $200 per person on a dinner, we expect much better service.
Apr 14, 2025 · SruthiWe had high expectations for this place due to the popularity but we were a bit disappointed. The food was good, but nothing too special that wowed us and I feel like it's not really worth the high prices even with happy hour promo. There are other places in Austin that are better value for money for similar or better sushi. The wagyu skewers were dry and overcooked. The highlights for us were actually the desserts, which were all super delicious. The service and atmosphere is top notch though. I recommend this place for a special occasion if you are looking for a decent sushi place with nice atmosphere, and don't mind spending $$$.(Note: we're a group of Asians & Japanese who are really familiar with good sushi. Our preferences might not match the majority of customers and we might be biased towards the traditional style so take this into your consideration)
