Ume Reviews
This is our new favorite sushi restaurant since we moved from Dallas 6 months ago and it is truly NEXT LEVEL! Love that the owner is onsite daily, the waitstaff is amazing and we love the ambiance of this restaurant. We did sit at the sushi bar on one of our visits and really enjoyed watching the chefs work. The sushi is innovative, so fresh and the desserts are amazing! It is a bit pricey but well worth the quality and presentation of the food. Our vegetarian daughter was even able to find yummy food to eat here. If we are not there weekly, we are there every other week. The happy hour is also really good!Thank you UME! We support you and we hope others will visit, enjoy and support you as well!
Apr 21, 2025 · Kellie HighUme Sushi has a beautiful space with intricate woodwork and a cozy atmosphere, but our experience had some highs and lows. We went for Friday date night and found street parking nearby, though valet is available. The restaurant was busy at first but emptied out halfway through our meal. We were seated right away without a reservation, which was nice.Service was friendly, but it was slow. Our server oddly blamed the wait on the Rodeo--even though the restaurant was half-empty at that point. The table was small, making it hard to fit everything. At one point, the server put my menu on the floor leaning against my chair, which was strange. For drinks, I had the Tequila Old Fashioned ($14)--boozy, but I like tequila, so it worked. We tried a variety of dishes:+Chutoro Hasu ($19) - Medium fatty tuna with fried lotus chip and yuzu kosho aioli.+Salmon/Tuna Avocado Ball ($9) - With truffle mousse and gold flake.+Hamachi Serrano Roll ($17) - Spicy yellowtail, cucumber, cilantro, topped with hamachi, masago, and serrano.+MF Box Roll ($23) - Lobster tempura with Japanese mayo, scallions, and eel sauce.+Grilled Wagyu Shortrib Stuffed Shishito ($20)+Kinoko Skewer ($4) - With scallion butter.+Negitoro Nigiri ($8 each) - Fatty tuna, soy, scallions, wrapped in seaweed.+Sake Nigiri ($6 each) - Fresh salmon with nikiri, truffle aioli, pepper, and micro celery. The food was good, but not outstanding. I was hoping for something more memorable, but we actually left a little hungry and had to grab dessert elsewhere. Ume Sushi is solid, and I'd like to try more menu items. With so many great Japanese spots in Houston, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to return.
Mar 24, 2025 · Justin AsharFood was alright - nothing was outstanding. Nigiri are tiny (they use less rice than average) but tasted good. Edamame is served in the most boring way - bowl of bland boiled edamame. Rolls were alright as well. The open kitchen concept is refreshing, but i didn’t appreciate the kitchen staff staring at me half of the time because it the restaurant was empty (sunday evening) and they had nothing to do. The preparation also took a bit too long.
Apr 16, 2025 · Anton S.Cozy atmosphere! Extremely friendly staff! The waitress was phenomenal. The foods were outstanding! I tried out pretty much everything on nigri special menu. I had the ume drink, jap old fashion and hello sun. The Wagyu tartare aburi is a must! Don’t forget to ask for the real wasabi!
Mar 31, 2025 · Tony HuynhThe short summary is great food and absolutely horrible service. I was so disappointed as the MF sushi places usually don't disappoint. We were able to get seated right away for our reservation and most tables were full. We ordered edamame and crudo with our martinis after sitting down. The martinis shockingly took 50mins to be delivered after asking 2x. They apologized and said they were short staffed but come on. They did comp the drinks but I would've kindly paid for more but figured they would never arrive. About 10 mins after arriving we ordered some sashimi and 2 rolls from the sushi chef since we were seated at the sushi bar. They handed us the sashimi a few mins later and yet we had not seen our appetizers yet. They eventually came out 15 mins later after 25 mins of waiting for edamame which seems silly. We were out of water most of the meal and had to ask for fill ups. One time not finding anyone I asked the hostess who said sure I'll take care of it and it took 10 mins for someone to bring it so not sure why she couldn't have helped out if they were truly short staffed. The drinks were good when they finally arrived and all the sushi was amazing as always. Its really disappointing that the service was so bad but appears I need to stick to their sister place, MF Lobster instead as the service there was A+.
