Umi Ramen Reviews
My daughter and I, both vegetarian, were pleasantly surprised with this little place. We were a bit disappointed at first, since their menu only offered one vegetarian Ramen, and most of their appetizers were also meat-centric. When I suggested ordering the only vegetarian starter - seaweed salad, my daughter was unconvinced - "it's usually just a tiny mouthful, and not worth the money." It wasn't a tiny mouthful after all: the seaweed salad came on a bed of chopped romaine lettuce, giving it quite a bulk, and tasted good! The romaine lettuce well cushioned the strong vinegary taste of the seaweed. We each ordered a bowl of their vegetarian Ramen (the one and only choice for us anyway), and became truly convinced that sometimes limited choice meant a higher quality :-). The broth was made with soy milk, miso and ground sesame seeds, just like how I would have cooked it at home, and tasted fresh and delicious. The noodles wore a healthy green color (spinach juice) and were smooth with a good bouncy bite. It was a substantial meal, with lots of goodies - Tofu, Menma (bamboo shoots), tree mushroom, and chunks of crunchy broccoli. After tasting the chilli sauce on the table, I decided that this place was run by Chinese - which was confirmed by our friendly waitress. I will definitely bring the Ramen loving carnivores of my family here to taste their non-vegetarian choices!
April 21 · Hannah WGreat place for ramen and donburi. They have good options for appetizers as well! Kids can enjoy appetizers and they have a ramen for kids too! Service was quick and staff were friendly. Food was great! Will definitely recommend!
May 07 · Faria MadhumitaGreat experience! I got the chicken shoyu and enjoyed it very much, the broth was very flavorful and not spicy (how I like it). The milk teas were super good too. Would come back again to try more.
November 26 · SamanthaThe ramen was really good. I got the Tan Tan Ramen, which was the good type of spicy and very flavorful.
May 28 · Don DavisRamen tastes like Chinese food. I should’ve expected. Maybe this is good enough for this small town. If you know how ramen should taste like, this place is not for you.
