From the moment you step into this cozy restaurant, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere that cleverly expands into a surprisingly spacious and beautifully designed interior, perfect for various occasions. Zaku Izakaya offers a diverse menu that goes beyond just sushi, embracing the spirit of an izakaya – a casual Japanese bar that serves alcoholic drinks and snacks, often akin to a tapas bar.
At Zaku Izakaya, the culinary philosophy centers on delivering fresh and flavorful Japanese dishes, served promptly. Patrons consistently praise the quality of their sushi, as well as a wide array of appetizers and entrees that come out quickly, making it an excellent choice for both a relaxed meal and a more time-sensitive dining experience. The focus on fresh ingredients is paramount, particularly for a sushi restaurant, and Zaku Izakaya aims to ensure that every bite is a testament to this commitment. Beyond the food, the establishment is also celebrated for its impressive selection of Japanese beers, sake, and carefully crafted cocktails, which perfectly complement the diverse menu offerings.
What truly sets Zaku Izakaya apart for Massachusetts locals is its versatility. Whether you're looking for an intimate dinner, a lively gathering with friends, or a special family event, the restaurant's layout and offerings are well-suited. With semi-private party rooms available downstairs, it provides an ideal setting for larger groups, ensuring a comfortable and memorable experience. Zaku Izakaya is conveniently located at 520 Columbus Ave, Boston, MA 02118, USA. This address places it firmly in the heart of Boston's vibrant South End neighborhood. The South End is known for its picturesque brownstones, thriving arts scene, and diverse culinary landscape, making Zaku Izakaya a fantastic dining option for local residents and visitors exploring this charming part of the city.
The restaurant's accessibility is a notable advantage for those utilizing public transportation in Massachusetts. Zaku Izakaya Reviews
Cozy restaurant when enter but actually the inside is quite big and beautiful. They also have a downstairs where there are many semi party rules. It’s really great for events or family, gatherings and love their selection of food and cocktails.
May 06, 2025 · Amanda WongCasual and cozy Japanese bistro in the South End. Sushi, appetizers, and entrees come out quickly and fresh. Pre-fixe offering is a great value, pair with a sake or Japanese beer!
May 25, 2025 · Jacob BarbatoOverpriced sadly, and taste was just okay. We got the beef udon stir fry, udon curry, grilled yam and okra appetizers, bibimbap and grilled saba fish. For me, everything was good to mid. Won’t be coming back.
Jan 02, 2025 · Grace GongA friend who ate here this last Thursday talked up Zaku - claiming to be one of the best meals he has had in years. I was skeptical but went with him on Saturday to see for myself and it was pretty perfect. The sauces, the miso, the sake, and everything in between was on point and the food was often served by the chef as well as our waiter. We managed to eat ourselves SICK and three people having an obscene amount of a-la-carte food and sake had a bill that was only $240.This place was wildly good. I’ll be back - soon!
Mar 24, 2025 · Kay HammA somewhat mediocre experience. The night we went, they were sold out of a large portion of their sake selection, and couldn’t make any mixed drinks because there was no one servicing the bar. They were also sold out of a few of their food items. The service was a bit slow. Overall an alright place.
