Amami Shima Sushi Introduce
Amami Shima Sushi, located at 19068 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014, USA, is a highly-regarded Japanese restaurant known for its fresh and authentic sushi and other culinary delights. You can reach them at (408) 996-8815 or via mobile at +1 408-996-8815. This establishment consistently receives praise for its delicious food and commitment to quality, making it a popular choice for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts in the Cupertino area.
In the context of the "Doctor Near Me" platform category, Amami Shima Sushi, while a culinary establishment, can be viewed through the lens of providing a form of "nourishment" and "comfort" that contributes to overall well-being. Just as a doctor addresses physical health, Amami Shima Sushi offers a culinary experience that can uplift spirits and provide a healthy, satisfying meal. The emphasis on "fresh and authentic Sushi" aligns with a focus on quality ingredients, which are fundamental to a wholesome diet. For those seeking not just sustenance but also a delightful and meticulously prepared meal that supports a sense of contentment, Amami Shima Sushi serves as a valuable local resource. The positive emotional impact of enjoying delicious, high-quality food in a welcoming environment can be seen as a form of daily "therapy," helping to alleviate stress and enhance one's general disposition.
The environment at Amami Shima Sushi is described as a "small restaurant" but one that is "able to accommodate our 10-person group for Mother's Day dinner." This indicates that despite its size, it is capable of handling larger parties, suggesting efficient space utilization. While some reviews mention that the "ambiance may need a touch-up" or that there might be a "bad odor in the air (like bathroom smells)" at times, it's also noted that the "friendly service and delectable dishes more than make up for it." The restaurant is located in a "small strip plaza with challenging parking," but additional parking is available "on the side of the shopping center." Despite these minor environmental points, the overall focus seems to be on the culinary experience. It can get "pretty loud since it's a small restaurant" when busy, but it also offers an "intimate dining atmosphere" and "cozy outdoor seating," creating a versatile setting.
Service at Amami Shima Sushi generally receives positive feedback, described as "solid," "quick," and "friendly." Customers mention that they "joined the waitlist on Yelp on our way over and only had to wait a couple minutes before a table was ready," indicating an efficient system for managing demand. This suggests that while the restaurant "gets pretty crowded," they have methods in place to seat guests relatively quickly. However, there are some inconsistencies, with one customer noting a "male receptionist with spiky hair was flat out rude and a liar" regarding wait times, and another mentioning that "human service was quite slow" for water orders, with one order never arriving. Despite these isolated incidents, the general impression is that the staff is attentive, especially for food delivery, and strives to provide a good experience. The offer of "free fresh wasabi" and the overall helpfulness of the staff contribute to a positive service impression.
Amami Shima Sushi boasts several key features that draw customers in. A primary highlight is the consistent quality of its "fresh and authentic Sushi." Many reviews laud the "quality fish" and the "generous" cuts of fish, with a good fish-to-rice ratio, particularly for nigiri.
Specific features and popular dishes include:
- Omakase: A frequently mentioned feature is their omakase, offering "10 pieces of nigiri for $46" (at the time of review), which is considered a "fantastic deal" and "great value for the price." While not a traditional omakase served piece by piece by a chef, it's highly praised for its quality and value, often featuring "incredibly fresh" fish.
- Daily Specials: Customers "recommend ordering from the specials," citing examples like "blue fin," which was "really huge." This suggests a dynamic menu that offers seasonal or unique items.
- Grilled Items (Kama): Dishes like "Hamachi Kama" (grilled yellowtail fish neck) are highlighted as "nicely charred," indicating skill in preparing cooked fish dishes. "Salmon Kama" is also available.
- Sushi Rolls: While some reviewers prefer nigiri and sashimi over rolls, popular rolls like "Romeo & Juliet" (with Hokkaido scallops) and "Melted In The Mouth Roll" (toro & avocado with unagi, avocado, and sriracha) are noted as "very delicious." They also offer a variety of rolls using soy paper.
- Appetizers: The "Agedashi Tofu" and "Hamachi Jalapeno" are among the praised appetizers.
- Variety of Fish: The restaurant offers a "variety of fish," including multiple types of uni (sea urchin), which is a draw for connoisseurs.
- Dietary Accommodations: The menu includes "vegan and limited vegetarian options," broadening its appeal.
It's noted that some cooked items, like the large bluefin, might "take 30 minutes to cook," so ordering ahead is advised. While some inconsistencies were noted with certain fish (e.g., specific uni batches, or cheaper cuts of tuna/salmon for some omakase interpretations), the overall perception is that the quality for the price is excellent, especially for fresh nigiri and sashimi.
Regarding promotional information, Amami Shima Sushi's strongest promotion comes from its reputation for "high quality sushi at a reasonable price" and its "great deal on their omakase" (e.g., 10 pieces for $46). This value proposition is a significant draw, as highlighted by numerous positive reviews. The recommendation to "order from the specials" and the popularity of certain large, impressive items like the bluefin tuna serve as organic promotions, enticing customers to explore unique offerings.
The restaurant's use of a Yelp waitlist (as mentioned by customers) is an implicit promotional tool that enhances convenience and reduces perceived wait times, encouraging potential diners to visit even during busy periods. The consistent word-of-mouth praise, with customers stating they would "definitely come again" and that it's a place they'd "always mention" when asked for the best sushi for the price, is invaluable. While no explicit discount codes or traditional advertising campaigns are detailed, the intrinsic quality, generous portions, and perceived affordability generate significant positive buzz and repeat business within the community.
In conclusion, Amami Shima Sushi in Cupertino is a highly recommended Japanese restaurant celebrated for its fresh, authentic sushi and sashimi, particularly its value-driven omakase and daily specials. Despite its small size and occasional service quirks, its commitment to quality ingredients, friendly service, and accommodating nature for groups make it a popular and reliable choice for a delicious Japanese meal.

Amami Shima Sushi Reviews
This is a small restaurant but was able to accommodate our 10-person group for mother's Day dinner. Food was delicious. I recommend ordering from the specials. For example. We got the blue fin, which was really huge but it does take 30 minutes to cook so please order a head. Submit

Mar 14, 2025 · sholeh jaWas recommended to try this place with a group of friends who raved about this restaurant.Compared to the other high end sushi restaurants I’ve tried, the experience at Amami was okay. The deluxe is priced decently for a chefs choice. The presentation is beautiful with slender cuts of fish, but the quality of the fish is not as fresh as I would’ve liked.Restaurant does get busy.
Jul 16, 2024 · A SIf you’re looking for a fast and affordable omakase, this is definitely the spot. It’s not the kind of traditional omakase run by Japanese chefs, but for the price and speed, it really delivers. Perfect if you want something casual and convenient without breaking the bank. If you’re ordering, go for the Omakase set. Just keep in mind it all comes out at once on one big plate, not piece by piece like a high-end omakase. It’s not meant to be a luxurious experience, but for under $50, you get a full set that’s really decent for the price.
May 13, 2025 · OliviaFood quality has been on a slight downward trend for the past year. They used to provide the best omakaze in town but it is not the case anymore. The restaurant smells moldy and the service is lukewarm at best. With all that said, we only order to-go now.
