Asakuma Sushi-Beverly Hills Reviews
Some people will consider it a point in their favor that the only person working in the front of the restaurant does not seem to speak English, but it led to a frustrating experience. First, I came in for the lunch 2 sushi rolls for a reduced price special, and he let me know that the veggie tempura roll is not included. Only the cheap rolls are, which makes it not worthwhile. But he seemed unsure and confused and pointed to a sign that was inside the restaurant and different from the one outside the restaurant. Fine. I ordered a vegetable tempura roll (specifically not included on the special and we confirmed the price), tamago, and inari, both confirmed that they were sushi, each 2 pieces. The tamago came out fine. Then came a tiny vegetable roll, not tempura. I pointed that out and he took it away. He came back with a nice looking large vegi tempura roll (see picture) but inside was only broccoli and gobo, not what the menu says is in the roll. It was basically a fried broccoli roll, a bit bitter. The inari never came. The guy in front disappeared and the place was empty. It was hard to track someone down to pay. Overall, not a happy experience.
Mar 21, 2024 · Cigal ShahamToday felt like sushi day, found this the other day while looking for a new juice bar very quiet street, I past it a few times without even noticing. Well I only post if I’m impressed the quality of the sushi was better than most of the upscale sushi restaurants I’ve been too. I’m giving it a 4 stars just because the service wasn’t great and they didn’t have adequate temp it’s been a hot summer and a fan isn’t efficient. I was a bit uncomfortable. But the meal itself speaks volumes big portions big lunch menu a good pick up take out for next time.
Aug 22, 2021 · Nan SoloThe ingredients amazed me, the taste was much better than the sushi restaurants I've been to. I heard from the staff that they changed a new chef, and I was very impressed with the chef's skills. The portion was large and the price was affordable, I would definitely recommend it
Nov 23, 2024 · Wang JunyaoI love asakuma!! Their sushi is very fresh and made to order. Their lunch specials are all big portions and very reasonable price. Lunch specials for weekend, too! That's a big plus!! Brown rice options and delivery services available. Everything is so good! Highly recommend to all!!
Mar 06, 2017 · Penelope MillerIf you are looking for an affordable sushi spot then this place might be of interest to you. You can get 3 rolls for $15. Asakuma’s specialty rolls are slightly cheaper then most, and the portions will satisfy most for the price. This might sound like an absolute steal, but once you try it, you can tell the quality is lacking.I have given this place 3 chances. All of which were pick up orders so I will be somewhat lenient.Sushi is one of my favorite cuisines. I usually finish my plate and wish I had more. That was not the case for Asakuma. 2 out of my 3 times ordering here I could not finish my plate simply due to quality of fish. That said, there are some items worth trying. Here’s what I would and wouldn’t recommend:Avoid their basic cut rolls - The spicy tuna roll and California roll, two staple rolls in most US sushi restaurants were let downs here. They over pack the imitation carb, and the tuna is over mixed in sauce.Avocado - Don’t be surprised if the avocado on your roll is hard. I ordered the eel and avocado roll and I had to remove the avocado as it almost rock had.Specialty rolls to try - The king lobster roll (minus asparagus) was really good! I highly recommend. The crunch roll and Snow White roll both tasted good and are worth a try if your new to this place.Overall, I was not “wowed” by anything on the menu at Asakuma. That said, the price is definitely enticing if you are looking for a cheap sushi spot. Keep in mind I have not eaten at the physical restaurant, so your experience may be different if you choose to eat there.I wouldn’t expect this place to be a mainstay to your sushi restaurant rotation unless you are ok with subpar sushi for a fair price.
