As with any popular local establishment, experiences can vary. Ayame Hibachi & Sushi has received praise for its sushi quality and the fun of its hibachi shows. Nigiri and Sashimi: Individual pieces of fresh fish served over seasoned rice (nigiri) or as thinly sliced raw fish (sashimi), including popular choices like Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Eel, and various roe.
Sushi and Sashimi Combos: Various platters for individuals or groups, such as Sushi Regular/Deluxe, Sashimi Regular/Deluxe, and combination platters for 1 or 2 people.

Ayame Hibachi & Sushi presents a blend of features that appeal to New Jersey locals, alongside some areas that have drawn critical feedback from patrons:
Dual Japanese Dining Experience: A significant highlight is the availability of both interactive Hibachi grill dining and a traditional sushi bar. This offers versatility, catering to those who enjoy a lively culinary show and those who prefer a more classic sushi experience.
BYOB Policy: Ayame Hibachi & Sushi is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) establishment. This is a highly valued feature for many diners, as it allows them to bring their preferred alcoholic beverages, potentially offering cost savings and a personalized drink selection.
Variety of Sushi Quality: While some reviews praise the sushi as "amazing," "consistently fresh, delicious," "excellent, so fresh," and "always fresh and delicious," indicating high-quality preparations, other reviews suggest inconsistency or issues with freshness, making it a point of mixed feedback.
Popularity of Hibachi: Despite varied feedback on overall service, the hibachi experience itself is often highlighted as a draw. One reviewer notes it's "the only Hibachi place in Hoboken" and that the "food is amazing - especially the hibachi."
Good for Groups/Family: The hibachi setup is inherently social and can be a fun experience for groups and families, as noted by comments about accommodating "a large group of us" and being suitable for "families with kids."
However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns raised by several customers:
Slow Service and Kitchen: A consistent theme in feedback is the "frustratingly slow" service and kitchen. Patrons have reported "took 30 minutes to get just one roll," orders being "45 minutes late (just under 2 hours)," "almost 2 hours to deliver," and having to "constantly try to catch someone’s attention just to get basic help." This indicates a systemic issue with efficiency.
Delivery Issues: Beyond dine-in, many delivery orders have faced issues, including significant delays ("delivery usually takes 90 minutes," "two hours late"), missing items, incorrect orders, cold food, and even rude delivery drivers. Some users report "they get things wrong often."
Food Safety Concerns: A critical highlight of concern is the explicit mention of "major food poisoning after eating their sushi rolls" and sushi being "warm." Another customer reported finding "plastic in my sushi." These are serious allegations that prospective diners should be aware of.
Inconsistent Food Quality (Hibachi & Sushi): While some praise the food, others have found it to be "basic, not incredible," "bland," "portions were very small for the price," "chicken was undercooked," "shrimp wasn't fresh," and "steak that was over done & rubbery." This suggests a lack of consistent quality control across the menu.

Ayame Hibachi & Sushi Reviews
The food is amazing, the service & kitchen are SLOW. And it’s BYOB.
Mar 08, 2025 · Erica BI will NOT be returning to this place. The food there is a health hazard. I got major food poisoning after eating their sushi rolls. On top of that, the service was frustratingly slow — I had to constantly try to catch someone’s attention just to get basic help. Definitely not the experience I was hoping for, especially for the price.
Apr 10, 2025 · VasThis is my to-go place wether dining in or for delivery! The good comes well packed which to most might not seem like a big deal but for me I absolutely love that. The taste is delicious and I would recommend this place 💯. Go Hibachi it’s yummy !
Feb 27, 2025 · Carolina Espinosaso they were able to accommodate a large group of us same day (i called at 3pm to make a reservation for 7:30pm for 6 people) and then were able to push our reservation back to 8pm when people were arriving late, but we had to wait by the sushi bar until about 8:30 without water or menus and then when we got to the table, we also had no water or menus (later saw that the menus were QR codes, but this was not told to us). then they moved us to a new table 45 minutes in (now 8:45). by the time our order was taken it was 9/9:15. appetizers came out within 10ish minutes but hibachi didn’t start until 9:45. by the time we actually ate, it was 10pm (2 hours after reservation). additionally, the whole party had stomach problems throughout the night and the next morning. now, this could be due to a variety of reasons (like eating a huge hibachi meal at 10/10:30 at night), but regardless, isn’t the greatest feeling :( everyone was very nice though.
Jan 12, 2025 · Charlotte GreenfieldWe ordered a delivery and after two hours wating I called them. The person on the phone was rude and the food wasn't ready. I don't recommend ordering there if you're hungry or un a hurry. Service is not good too
